@@dazdavis7896 Except Qu Rahn's brief showing beats most of what Ven Zallow has been shown to do in his three minutes of screentime. Fighting off six Dark Jedi with each being near-Master or outright Master level and then pressuring a near-Vader level opponent into using his trump card is more impressive than fighting a few fodder Sith, one politico Sith Lord, and then fighting a duel with Darth Malgus. Inquisitor Jerec and Malgus are comparable so both are highly impressive. But, Jerec's Dark Jedi are easily more impressive wins than Ven's rank and file Sith apprentices. Also, Ven is quite clearly not a dedicated duelist. Qu Rahn isn't either, but he didn't sacrifice that capability like Zallow did. To be clear, Zallow is highly capable, and would only be beaten by high-level Jedi masters and beyond. But, he has plenty of limitations. As for the NJO bit, that's just because the NJO is the most powerful version of the Order in its twenty-five-thousand year history. Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker, Kyle Katarn, Corran Horn, Kyp Durron, and the rest of the major players are all on a level that few Jedi can even hope to attain. It's ludicrous how much they can do. And, that partially has to do with them surviving over five major wars in their lives, but that's that. There might be a bit of bias, but saying Zallow beats Qu Rahn, Qui-Gon Jinn, or Old Ben Kenobi is a bit biased as well.

Another thing that makes Qu Rahn's application of Shii-Cho so astonishing is the fact that Rahn used Shii-Cho, a form suited better against multiple opponents against a practitioner of a form greatly geared toward 1 vs 1 combat! This was an excellent video! I would like to make another suggestion for a versus video. Kyle Katarn vs Kyp Durron. Keep up the fantastic work!

I actually agree with this match. Luke is a superior Force user and Lightsaber duelist than Yoda, and I agree with EvanNova that he is equal with Mace Windu as a lightsaber duelist. However, I actaully believe that Kyle Katarn is in the same league as these three. First, he is very easily arguably the best lightsaber duelist in the New Jedi Order after Luke. Next, his unique outlook on the Force and magnitude of power is in the top tier of his era, which is a very impressive status because like Obi-Wan and WIndu, he is one of the best in an Era of Greats: Saba Sabetyne, Corran Horn, Leia Organa, Mara Jade Skywalker, Jaina Solo, Kyp Durron, Kenth Hamner, Lumiya, and more. Kyle Katarn's Force powers were enough to effect Yuzzhan Yong during the war, and his lightsaber duelling skills and Force-Powers are acknowledged by EvanNova to be virtually even with Count Dooku, one of the only two who could match Yoda and Windu in sheer swordsmanship prior to the Clone Wars. I believe that Kyle's Defense is capable enough to match Yoda's offence long enough to exhaust the Jedi Master, which is highly possible considering Kyle's own insane endurance and stamina. Also, he is more tactically aware and versatile than Mace Windu, and even employed subtlety with a level of success that would make Obi-Wan impressed. During the Yuzzhan Vong War, Kyle infiltrated a colony that came under Yuzzhan Vong attack and became a slave along with the other refugees. He travelled with them across the planet while feeding information to Jan Ors and an Imperial squad. Then when they had prepared an ambush, Kyle revealed that he was a Jedi moments before the Imperial Stormtroopers revealed themselves, using the intimidation of facing both a Jedi and the Empire to cause the Vong to surrender rather than fight with no risk to the refugees being caught in the cross fire. If WIndu had been in that position he would have just set-up an ambush and fought the Vong with sheer might, rather than infiltrating them and using intimidation to cause a bloodless surrender with no casualties. Also, Kyle use of Force powers usually associated with the Darkside is an interesting card, because he has the emotional calm of a Jedi and uses them with focused precision rather than overwhelming power or emotional intensity. EvanNova, Jensaarai, Reti4, and Antoine Bandele have all noted that Mace Windu's Vapaad technique would leave him at a disadvantage against Count Dooku because he uses precision and elegance rather than raw power in his swordsmanship and combative Force abilities. Kyle Katarn is very similar to Dooku, and he uses control and adaptability rather than overwhelming power or speed in any situation. It's likely that Vapaad would actually weaken Mace against Kyle, opposed to strengthen him against Luke Skywalker. Also, Kyle is the Jedi Battlemaster, and is acknowledged to have mastered all Seven Forms of Lightsaber combat, along with some elements unique to him that developed during his mission against Jarec and the Darkside Elite and against Dasann, prior to when he would have learned about the Seven Forms existence. Personally, I think that Kyle's skills have to bee assessed in a similar way to EvannNova's Darth Vader assessment in Darth Maul vs. Darth Tyrannus vs. Darth Vader. Kyle has mastered every Classical Form, but he would have learned about the Three Rings of Defence developed by Luke, Corran Horn and Kam Solousar first. Since the Three-Rings, especially Strong Style, are his foundation, how he incorporates the Seven Forms into each ring needs to be assessed to have an absolute and complete assessment of Kyle's style. While Kyle is not as versatile as Yoda or Luke Skywalker, his range of powers and abilities are in the same league as Windu. And he has a similar magnitude of power to Windu as well. Also, The ease and might that Kyle can use his Force-Powers completely outclasses Yoda (See Reti4's Yoda vs. Mace Windu video). Kyle spent a lot of time sparring with his contemporaries on the Jedi Consul, and likely other Jedi in the Order as the Battle Master. If his defence is enough to match the power of Kyp Durron, the Ferocity and speed of Saba Sabetyne, the Linear and unorthodox fencing of Corran Horn, the adaptable and dynamic style of Mara Jade Skywalker, the simplicity and power of Kenth Hamner, the experienced Kam Solousar, and even Luke Skywalker himself, then I have no doubt that Kyle's dynamic and versatile defence has the skill to hold-out against Yoda's overwhelming blitzkrieg. In Conclusion, Kyle Katarn is actually better suited to triumph over Windu and Yoda than Luke is. To quote Jensaarai, "the bare minimum for anyone to engage Yoda, whether Darth Tyrannus' linear back-and-forth style, or Sidious' onslaught, is a Jedi Consul-master equivalent of Soresu. And the number of duelists who have accomplished this, can be counted with the fingers on one hand." Personally I disagree because this count amounts to seven people: 1=Obi-Wan Kenobi, 2=Luke Skywalker, 3=Mace Windu, 4=Count Dooku, 5=Darth Vader, 6=Kyle Katarn, 7=Darth Zannah. No one else in the Star Wars Universes has the same magnitude of defensive skill in Soresu, or a defence equivalent to that level. Everyone else in Star Wars is too much of an Offensive heavywieght to have an equivalent level of defence. Even Darth Malgus (who has been nearly overwhelmed by Ven Zallow's Ataru blitzkrieg) and Lord Hoth (who would possibly focus on retaliation and decisiveness rather than passive defence and survival) are not in this league. Back to Kyle vs. Yoda, Kyle's own use of combative Force Powers against other trained Force users, his tactical awareness and adaptability, and his stamina all outclass Yoda by a significant margin. While against Mace Windu, Kyle's modus operandi would play against Mace, because Kyle focuses on adapting and overcoming or outmaneuvering rather than overpowering. His unorthodox use of powers from both the Light and Dark Sides of the Force with the self-control of a Jedi would put Mace in a tough place because he would never have encountered such a radically maverick individual likeKyle in his life. While Kyle's own emphasis on control, efficiency and adaptability would leave Mace's with nothing to draw on, similar to Count Dooku. Kyle's own tactical awareness and subtlety would give him a huge advantage against Windu's straight forward tendencies. The more that Mace throws at Kyle, the more Kyle will adapt and counter, while Mace will overextend or exhaust himself, and be defeated. Also, if they end-up in a contest of Force powers, then I believe that Kyle would win because his magnitude and range of powers would match Windu's, and he can take much more damage and punishment than Windu can. -Note: during their fight, Darth Caedus had to use Kyle's own allies' mediocracy against him and the environment to throw Kyle forward into his lightsaber. Caedus did not even try to use more direct Force powers against Kyle. And knowing Caedus' own analytical mind and his familiarity with Katarn, this means that he judged Kyle's Force defences as too powerful to penetrate directly. Or that gathering the power to do so would leave him too exposed. The only wildcard in my assessment is Mace's Shatterpoint skills. I don't know if they would allow him to gain an edge over Kyle, or if they would be countered by Luke's own skill with Shatterpoints.

I was kind of surprised, though, when you said Qu Rahn was the fourth most powerful Order 66 survivor, putting him above the likes of Rahm Kota and Quinlan Vos (plus others like Ahsoka and Ferus Olin if you would count them). @@marusel1087 k’kruhk I think at that time would be more so equal to or close to Qu Rahn. Physically k’kruhk no question there, lightsaber dueling I think I’d give it more to Qu Rahn more so because while I see k’kruhk as a more underrated duelist, watch greyjedi91s video of k’kruhk vs savage opress, his style while done well is still straightforward and may be the standard form 5 techniques, while Rahn has fought and beat several opponents with different styles along with having a well honed style of offense and defense. K’kruhk could put up a good fight but I think Rahn could hold up a good enough defense until an opening for a quick offensive strike. As force abilities go…not entirely sure.

​@@thefilmwatcher1302 Ferus Olin was a rival to Anakin Skywalker who would fight him three times as Darth Vader after Order 66. I would have provided a synopsis, but my phone is being retarded and deleted my previous attempts when I posted them so I can't be bothered. In relation to a Versus matchup, Ferus was pitiful in his first fight with Vader, a near match for Darth Vader in their second fight, being able to stagger the giant with telekinesis and physical combat, penetrate his telepathic defenses with high levels of difficulty, and even use some Sith techniques on him to off-balance him. Vader still won, but Ferus acquitted himself very well as the Dark Lord walked away injured and missing a limb. Unfortunately for Ferus, he didn't get away much better as he pushed the "Padmé button" and Vader then tossed him around the room they were fighting in like a child's toy. In their third engagement, Ferus had gotten older and fatter and didn't have the stamina to beat Vader (supposedly). But, for the seventeen or so seconds they dueled, Ferus unleashed a Juyo offensive so powerful and so fast that he almost killed Vader with every one of his blows and Vader just barely managed to kill him. So, I would say that Ferus would be on a similar level to (or superior to) Qu Rahn. His lightsaber skills were primarily Shien with Ataru as a huge secondary component as a Padawan. He also learned Shii-Cho like all Padawans did, and when he was under Palpatine's tutelage he would learn Juyo. But, during his second duel with Vader actually used an instinctive application of Vaapad by goading Vader using Dun Möch tactics to make him angrier and angrier to fuel his own power. In the Force, he was also highly skilled in a variety of abilities. His obvious physical augmentation aside he was also a potent telekinetic, possessing abilities like: Force Push, Force Pull, Force Grip, Force Wave, and even Force Repulse. Hell, he could even use a form of Alter Environment to manipulate water molecules in the air to make water currents. His telepathic abilities were varied and powerful, being able to communicate across worlds and (with a lot of effort) systems, probe the minds of Inquisitors and even Vader, mind-tricking strong-willed individuals like Jenna Zan Arbor (as a Padawan mind you), using Force Stealth to hide his Force signature from Inquisitors, and his overweight countenance later in life might have actually been a Force illusion to disguise himself, as Leia repeatedly mentions him sometimes looking young, fit, and beautiful in certain lights. Almost like all of that excess weight and the wear and tear didn't even exist. He even knew lesser known abilities like Force Valor to boost himself and his allies (to the level where he was able to nearly speed-blitz Vader), Battlemind to further bolster their abilities and his own, as well as learning Force Rage and Force Scream during his short tenure under Palpatine. What I'm saying is that the guy was powerful but also highly versatile with a clear mastery of his abilities. If I were to rate him using the tier system Jensaarai1 and EvanNova95 (I think it was Macattack who made it but Jensaarai1 tends to credit him in the "Post-Mortem" videos just in case I'm wrong) tend to use to classify a Jedi or Sith's ability, I would probably say: Physical Capabilities-Tier 2: He has excellent levels of agility, dexterity, and strength with a good level of physical hardiness, a high tolerance for pain, and a large capacity to bounce back considering he was able to fight the Empire only a few hours after his second fight with Vader where he was slammed into walls, containers, and computational systems which broke multiple bones, lacerated his body, and drove him into unconsciousness. Lightsaber Skill-Tier 2: He is a master of Shien and Ataru, learned Juyo, and used an instinctive application of Vaapad on the level where he can threaten and nearly kill Vader. . . I don't think I need to say much more on this. Force Abilities-Tier 2: He's got a nice balance between power and versatility, and he knows a few esoteric or obscure Force powers. He uses his abilities in various and creative ways to produce effective results and has overpowered Inquisitors and even Vader (however briefly) with multiple avenues and powers. This is as solid a placement as it gets. I'd place him closer to the top of Tier 2 (and maybe even in the 1.5 category) but I think 2 is the safest place to put him in. I think it'd be fair to put him on the level of, if not above people like Shaak Ti, Plo Koon, and Ki-Adi-Mundi. That's just my opinion, but I think the list of what he can do speaks for itself.

The breakdowns of their individual skills seemed to hold a bit of a bias towards Qu Rahn, but I'm glad that you ended up amending this in the end. I actually really liked your breakdown of Qu Rahn's lightsaber style, since if I were to be a Jedi, I would also want to use a conserved adaptation of Shii-Cho, so thanks for addressing it as a more balanced form than most videos! I feel like things are looking up for this season of versus videos, and I'm also really looking forward to the new Council podcasts. Keep up the good work!

I was wondering could you do situational vs such as darth Vader after he has lost his mask(as he can survive for a brief time) or count dooku vs someone while he is poised. I think chucking all Jedi of Zallow's era into the same pot with respect to being strained in defense is a bit much, considering the lack of information there is on the subject. I know that you are drawing a conclusion from what we have seen but that needs to be stressed a bit more heavily for continuity. Fantastic analysis Evan like always with very similar thematics. I agree with this verdict but there are some nitpicks I have. Force Whirlwind is nothing more than a advanced application of tk and can be blocked by a force wall. Since they are equal in force power, I don't think force whirlwind is a deciding factor but Qu would still win. Also I see your easter eggs especially the one at 25:13 and I just have to say, I know you will do a great job and I think you already know this, but prepare for the salt in the comments. I think Shakk would barely win in that fight but that's just me.

Many of Qu Rahn's stances were a two handeded high guard, no doubt favoring form V in its heyday, not to mention the force he exerted in his blows. Also I saw some ripostes in Rahn's style, especially against Sarris, and Gorc. I think I saw a falling avalanche used against Jerec.

A couple things with this one. If they are "comparable" in most respects, how does a committed swordsman lose to a committed force specialist in sword play? Aside from the differences in war time vs peace time sword play, which you have repeatedly said, war time will always lose. Point of fact, the only thing Ven had over Qu was armament, but you said it was negligible at best. So I am curious, is there ANYONE you think that Ven COULD beat that has a name?

Not rep-ing Qu Rahn at all tbh. I think Ven wins the battle between the two. Just in the way that if it was Qu Rahn in the place of Ven during the battle between himself and Malgus. I believe Qu Rahn would not last as long as Ven in this bout. Though I think Ven is better overall, we did not see his full abilities in combat therefore leaving any criticism invalid. Same goes for Qu Rahn though. I think Ven Zallow is more physically capable than Qu Rahn making him a formidable opponent and not only do I think Ven Zallow did not show his true potential or show all of his cards if you will, I feel like he brings more to the table than just what we see.

Kylo's telekinesis far outstrips the Inquistor's, as well as his connection to the Force. Let's not forget the circumstances that Kylo was facing in his duel with Rey: -Kylo was heavily injured. -Rey's connection to the Force surpasses his own. -He was holding back.

1. Nice video. I had heard of Qu Rahn but never knew much about him. It was interesting to see him featured. 2. Suggestion for a video: Galen Marek vs Starkiller. While they are essentially the same person, they have developed differently. Which was better: the original or the clone? Starkiller comes off maybe more passionate and overtly powerful but Galen wasn't a slouch and seems for tactical and levelheaded.

+William Henning I'm not too sure. They've gone through different training. And while Starkiller my have flashes of Galen's life, he doesn't have everything. This is also why all the clones of Marek had to be retrained by Vader. Lightstaber training: Marek had basic familiarity with all 7 lightsaber forms and specialized in Juyo, Shien and Soresu. For Starkiller, he went with Ataru, Niman and had mastered Jar'Kai. Starkiller also will use improvised weapons and knew disarmament techniques. Force Powers: They're basically the same, though Starkiller supposedly was more powerful than Marek. Also, Starkiller used Force Fury while Marek never did. Also, while not battle related, when Marek turned from the Dark Side he became capable of Farsight, which he had been unable to do. Starkiller never truly turned to Light. He was completely willing to keep using the Dark Side as long as it benefited him. Their approaches to combat are different: Marek remains level-headed and calculating throughout his fights. Starkiller is basically cut looses and just cuts down anything in his path. Starkiller is intuitive, but doesn't have the same detached methods Marek had. It should also be noted that Starkiller's training was curbed by Vader so that he couldn't pull a Galen Marek and defeat him. Marek beat Vader, though Vader hadn't hit his prime yet. So, at the end of the day, we've got too combatants that are the same person (for the most part) that has gone done two very different path. They have a lot in common but are very different. No matter who wins, it would be close. It comes down to whose method is more suited to winning. Starkiller is supposedly more powerful in the force but Marek (at least to me) comes off as more refined when he's actually fighting and is arguably the better duelist.

+William Henning Oh there's one last thing that I forgot to mention. Experience. Galen Marek has experience against some of the greatest sword masters and force users of his day and at least 15 years worth of training from Darth Vader. Starkiller has diluted memory flashes of Marek's life, which he used to build his own skill set. In a head to head confrontation, Marek would have the edge simply from having fought and defeated the best of the best.

Damn. It's crazy how long ago this match was made. It felt so recent. And even after all this time, its still excellent. I do disagree with the conclusion. Rahn is very clearly a talented warrior, no doubt about that. In fact, in terms of tactical prowess, I would favor him based on his performance before his capture. However, I do feel that Zallow is simply a higher tiered swordsman. Despite his style being rather textbook, he still preformed those sequences near flawlessly, having fought equal against Dark Maglus. While Rahn is clearly skilled, there is nothing that would put him on that level, even when accounting for his weakened state during his Fight with Jerec and his Dark Jedi. I would also say in terms of actual field experience that Zallow has a sizeable advantage. Rahn was brought up in time of peace, and would then spend over two decades on the run, where he didn't even carry a lightsaber. All he has is his clone wars experience, and he wasn't noted for taking part in any serious duels during the war, where he actually see Zallow cut down handfuls of Sith on Coruscant alone. In general, Rahn would put up a good fight. However, where Rahn was peacekeeper and a teacher, Zallow was a soldier, and I feel that in the end Zallow would end up winning after a long fight.

Let's not forget that Ven had the upper hand in his engagement with Malgus, and could've won had Malgus not tricked him. Also, had Zallow been in Rahn's position against Jerec, I believe he would've killed all of the dark Jedi (barring Jerec) at the same time. As I said earlier, this video is still extremely well-done. So, are we getting a Malgus Vs. Jerec battle?

Remember Qu had been physically and psychically tortured before he fought those Dark Jedi and he still beat them (except Jerec of course). Imagine what he could do when he's at full strength. Wright805 And you're entitled to yours, my friend. However, I personally don't see Qu Rahn contending nor nearly beating Malgus like Ven did. Also, Qu Rahn is a practitioner of Form 1, Shii-Cho, which insinuates that he'd be at a further disadvantage against someone like Zallow. If Rahn was of the same calibre as Kit Fisto, then I might reconsider, but he's not (in my opinion). Now, it could be argued that Rahn's Shii-Cho could exploit an opening in Zallow's form, but do remember that Darth Malgus, a practitioner of Form 1, Form 6,Form 5 (and maybe Form 7,too), was unable to find such an opening. I'm not arguing Malgus is a master in each of these Forms, but I do feel his hybrid Form would present more of a challenge that Qu Rahn's.
