I don't know if Brad will read this but it's the only way I have to say thank you. I had a back injury that would not heal after almost two years. I had chronic pain. I have been doing the vertical plank faced away from the wall for about 6 weeks and my back has improved to the point that I no longer have pain. I do my vplanks in a slight crouch position, and I move side to side slowly like I am skiing. I agree that moving exercise has many benefits over rigid exercise. I move my shoulders back and forward like Brad did in the video. I also lift a leg, but with the crouch position this is like a one-legged squat. It feels like good exercise and I can feel it activating many muscles in my lower body. I breathe normally and do abut ten breaths at a time. If I do ten breaths of crouch then ten on each leg I am warming up and breathing a bit harder. I highly recommend this exercise. Thanks Brad.

Had a spine doc who minimized my sacroiliitis and low back pain (severe osteoarthritis), and immediately retorted, “You need to do planks.” Only, he didn’t bother to finish listening to me. I can’t do planks because I have no cartilage left in either of my thumbs/wrists, so I can’t support my weight. But I’ll bet he didn’t know about THIS! Thanks, Bob & Brad!

How many of those straps necessary to duplicate the resistance of the traditional planks? Love all your videos, Bob and Brad
@sawong8685
@sawong8685 5 жыл бұрын
mica rose, strap quantity does not affect resistance, what matters is position of your body. You might view TRX videos to see how angle of your body plank increases resistance - straps allow you to tilt off vertical while avoiding getting down on the ground.

"Vertical planks" are not true planks. The closest demo was when Brad leaned backwards. At the gym I use TRX bands for the Superman in which there is a diagonal tilt , so the posture resembles the floor plank position.

Hey, I’m 32 and have congenital spinal stenosis of the lower lumbar - only found out this year when back started hurting and didn’t go away. I got a ct scan and have bulging disc as well. My legs are weak when I walk and I get a lot of pain in my buttocks. I’m in good shape so the lack of use in my legs is frustrating and a bit scary... any exercises I should focus on? Getting and mri soon.

This is useless as an alternative to the plank. This routine could work if one has a resistance band that offer more resistance, while having the body at a 45 degree angle. Deliberate contraction of the abdominal muscles, while executing rowing motion would be most efficient.

Those exercises look effective, but one of the main attractions of the horizontal plank is that they are absolutely free and you can do them anywhere. These involve an equipment investment and a location commitment. They won't become popular in culture for those reasons.

Eds patients aren't planking because its trendy we're planking because we have unstable hips, ankles, shoulders, knees and other joints which means we really need core strength and YES I do reverse plank too both with hands facing front and backwards because they activate different muscle groups and planking does NOT mean staying still can move legs in all the positions to strengthen muscle groups.
