The principle is called the "One Ahead" principle. A magician on America's Got Talent used it for a mentalism act. Much like your trick, he first wrote down an object he was going to force later and crumpled the paper on stage. Then, had the spectator name the thought of object before writing down his "next" guess while actually just dictating the previous guess. He repeated this a few times then forced the last item to be his first "guess." By grabbing the crumpled papers in the wrong order he was able to reveal at the end that all his guesses were correct.

Sincerely, this trick is kind of dumb since you need to see the cards they are taking, it would just look weird to the spectator as it looked weird to me when you where taking the cards and looking at them.
