Lost dubs are my holy grail as well, with my current interests bein' in the Singaporean dub of Yu-Gi-Oh!. It was done by the same studio who did the Odex One Piece dub(Voiceovers Unlimited), but significantly less is known about their YGO dub other than the infamous "HEY LOOKIN' GOOD, DUDE!" clip. The weirdest thing being that no one seems to know how many episodes were actually dubbed. 92 episodes have been archived, and the guy who uploaded them said that he "didn't have episodes 93-97", so it's safe to say they at least went through Battle City in its entirety. But there's probably a ton more lost episodes, as all the cast members(Including its director) mention dubbing 3 seasons, which has lead people to speculate that only the last 80 episodes of the series were un-dubbed. So even with 92, we've potentially only found just over HALF of this dub, with no clue as to where the rest could be.

The English-speaking lost media community has been infuriating in this regard. Like gee, who would have thunk that dubs have value? That maybe people would want to document history, revisit old media they remember or introduce said media to viewers who need to hear it in their own language? Dubbing is an art form. Some dubs surpass their source material in quality or in how well they resonate culturally with audiences. English dubs are common, easy to get people to search for, and easily replaceable.

There are 2 lost dubs I would love to see covered in a sequel video: The SGT Frog ADV dub is in interesting one as ADV released a trailer for it on youtube and apparently were in talks with Nickelodeon to have it air on TV. Eventually Funimation did a new dub that only ever released on DVD. It's one of my favorite dubs and I really want to see more of what the ADV dub looked like since apparently it was aimed at a younger audience than the Funimation dub. The other one I would love to see you talk about is the original theatrical dub of the 3rd Evangelion Rebuild film. From what I remember the movie came to theaters and after leaving theaters it took multiple years for it to be released on blu ray and there was basically no way to watch it dubbed for a while. Apparently the Japanese studio was not happy with the dub and Funimation had to rerecord it from scratch before releasing it on blu ray. I think thats also probably part of the reason Funimation (now Crunchyroll) hasn't gotten the license to any Evangelion anime since as the OG Eva was licensed and redubbed by netflix and the 4th rebuild film was licensed and dubbed by amazon prime.

3:30 An English dub is one thing But a Canadian dub? That's really something "kam-eh ham-eh ha!" "The maple tree of life is growing, eh."
@ultralance4 ай бұрын
tl;dr - the Canadian dub is really the continuation of the original US dub that featured the infamous "over 9000!" line and has a big chunk in the middle missing... which the Canadian Kai dub would've helped fill in a bit (though not complete) Seriously, the dub is really fascinating for sure because the Canadian dub cast is the cast that was hired for the original USA airings of DBZ as well - they got Goku on Namek but stopped production before Frieza fight... and then suddenly picks back up partway into the Android Saga with the original cast in an alternate Canadian dub due to Canadian broadcast laws (not joking; something like 60% or so of TV shows broadcast on Canadian networks are legally required to be shows made in Canada - ofc they could still sell US version to Canada, but making such a popular show into a loophole that also fulfilled a legal quota made it into a pretty easy sell).. Kai itself is like... a recut, stripped down DBZ with all filler removed. Gets a bad rep for having aired censored on Nick but if you watch the uncensored version, I think it's great. Would at least give *some* amount of Fireza fight and introduction of Trunks + Androids to slot into a watch-through of the Ocean dub instead of just having to skip entirely or switch to a different cast for a season or two's worth of episodes. If you read this far, fun fact: when I was like 8 watching it back just after the show had changed voice cast, I only really noticed Vegeta sounding different and just figured "Oh, the prince is growing from a bigger kid into a young man. Got it." lmao

One of the most interesting lost dubs in my opinion is the Singapore dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! Despite there already being an English dub of the series (the 4Kids one that we all grew up with), Singapore decided to make their own, which visually was closer to the original Japanese version as opposed to the 4Kids version. As far as we know, the first three seasons were dubbed, but we don't know how long after that they had dubbed before calling it quits. It's rumored they stopped about 80 episodes before the finale. There *were* physical releases for the show, but they have all since gone out of print, so tracking a DVD of the series down would be difficult. As of now, only clips and a few episodes of the dub have resurfaced. This dub in particular has become infamous for how bad it is, with it featuring eight voice actors for the entire show, and some of the voice actors doing bizarre or over-the-top voices. Alison Lester was the voice of every single female character in the show, and some of the male characters switch their voice actors at times (namely Rex Raptor and Shadi). Several of the cast members were actually crew members, too, such as Alison Lester being the translation editor and Chuck Powers and Brian Zimmerman being dubbing directors. Unfortunately, multiple episode reuploads have been taken down, so those episodes have since become lost again. I managed to download episode 4 of season 1 for a YTP I was making, so I luckily still have access to one of these episodes. If I remember correctly, a ton of errors were made in the script department, like Yami and Kaiba referring to every monster they summon as the "Dark Magician" in the first episode. This is a dub I would really like to see found, or at least have more episodes found, since the ones I've seen have been pretty hilarious.
@notJCSАй бұрын
@PokemonRater Ik I'm late but there's a bit more I'd like to add onto this. According to Powers on a forum interview WAY back in the day, the Singapore dub actually began production several months BEFORE the 4Kids one. I'm glad ya mentioned 'em stopping only 80 episodes out from the end, as lots of people hold the misconception that they only dubbed 90something episodes. Apparently, the reason the dub went unfinished is that the company that was purchasing the episodes from TV Tokyo & NAS(A company called IMMG) just stopped after the third season without an explanation. Also, though I haven't been able to download 'em yet, I've found full archives of episodes 1-92 of this dub alongside a few other Voiceovers Unlimited dubs, albeit on a VERY seedy website. Still tryna find a way to download 'em safely, but they are out there.

From what I've heard of from a source, there was an English Dub of the french animated series "Les Kassos" titled "The Wakos". There was an official youtube channel that iirc were uploading dubs from season 1 to 2, but stopped uploading after that. But of course, the channel is still up (I assume it's been abandoned or they forgot about it). As for other episodes. I heard that the other seasons 3 to 5 in english were being hosted on the Vice website at one point, but were taken down for some reason. Personally I believe that they were archived by someone (moreso pirated them), but have been keeping for themselves or just isn't aware that it's lost media.

On the topic of (probably) Canadian dubs, the Jungledyret animated series has a lost English dub (which LSSQ said he would cover in this video but forgot) made by Ocean Studios. The French, German, Dutch, and Arabic dubs are all based off of it (the latter has the episode titles intact).

There’s an English dub/adaptation of a series I’m looking for created by Saban Entertainment called Macron 1, it was a Robotech-esqe adaptation of Sengoku Majin GoShogun and Aku Daisakusen Srungle, edited together into a single series so the show would have enough episodes necessary for syndication at the time. It was about two groups working together to defeat an alien threat on Earth and in an Alternate Universe. One of the most notable things about it is that during the battles they would play pop songs from the time period. The episodes that are available on KZbin are of the GoShogun characters with the Srungle characters making very rare appearances. I’m assuming there has to be more episodes involving the Srungle characters a lot more, but can’t find anything related to it, idk if I could try to contact any of the voice cast to see if they knew anything about them or not

The "What's with Andy?" european portuguese dub is the dub I want to find the most, I used to have a DVD of it as a kid and I've never been able to find it, all I remember is that the dub was really high quality, (I could be wrong) similar to the portuguese "Regular Show" one. Thank you for mentioning Pop Secret. This series is very underrated. While the style might be unappealing to many, the appearances of the characters and environments are very well designed. It just screams Frutiger Aero. And the soundtrack sounds amazing, it's a shame the main composer ignored me on Instagram and made his account private later on. The full English dub does exist as some dubs seem to be based on it. Also, the creator posted this clip from episode 5 in English a long time ago (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6mpaGOGmaida5osi=pV9GtiC_rzBEC8ZG) Me and my friend have been trying to contact people involved and find the dub, but unfortunately, no results. The dub was made by Skylark Sound Studios and it's mentioned on their website. We did manage to retrieve the full French version, which was also missing. And the Italian one later.

18:34 That could possibly be a screener DVD. I have some Cartoon Network screener DVDs for the direct to TV hour movies. If you're out of the know, a screener was how you used to sell series and movies to retailers back in the day. You would send out screeners for your movie or series. No one talks about Duel Masters season 2.0 (English Dub). even the Wikipedia page is incorrect. Wikipedia tries to say that Season 2.0 is part of season 1.5 and it's not. And it's not the US base season. That is season 1.5 which is available on Tubi. Season 2.0 is the Japanese season 2 condensed into 13 episodes. I think it's been awhile since I looked. A good handful of these episodes are lost and nobody's talking about it. I don't even think there's a lost wiki page on it. Like back in the day when KZbin kind of allowed anime or TV shows in general to be uploaded in three-part versions. Some of these parts are lost to time if they were even uploaded in the first place.

Hey, I do have a suggestion for the next video of a lost dub of a Disney XD series. It's the European French dub of Packages from Planet X called "Livraison eXpress" ( And I specify the "European" because there is a Canadian French/Québécois dub of the series called "Colis de la planète X" which is entirely available on the Canadian Apple TV so it's out of the point ). So little story while searching content the French dub of Phineas and Ferb on YTb a few months ago, I found this video ( which is a continuity video of Disney XD France recorded in April 2014 with a VHS ) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6TNfHmIapmafck , and since a while now, I've been more and more intrigued about this lost dub of this series which I never saw before in my life even though I was already watching Disney XD at that time in Wallonia ( which is the same as in France ) So what does it show in this video ? Well starting at 8:29 there is : -A "Now" bumper for Livraison eXpress, -The theme song of the series localized, -The first 47-seconds of what it seems the 25th episode of the series when looking at the plot of different episodes on Wikipedia and -The end credits also localized. It's great that there is the end credits because we can know who participated in it. So we know that it's the studio Dubbing BROTHERS who dubbed it ( and according to someone in the comments, it's the Belgian branch of it which is plausible since they also dubbed other animated Disney Channel/Disney XD shows like Gravity Falls, Fish Hooks, Kick Buttowski, Star vs the Forces of Evil etc. ), as well as few people like the Artistic Director ( Jean-Pierre Denuit ), the Adaptor/Translator ( Nathalie Xerri ) and a few VAs such as Frederic Meaux as Dan ( also mentionned here wikidoublage.fandom.com/fr/wiki/Frédéric_Meaux ), Severine Cayron as Amanda, Didier Colfs as Troll and Jean-Paul Landresse as Copernicus. Even though I did search for a while, I haven't found anything other than this video, and I haven't contacted anyone or the studio yet ( but I can try to if you want it ) Sooo yeah, I never know how to conclude my comments btw

Kind of disappointed that when a 4Kids dub was mentioned, it wasn't Funky Cops. Honestly, it was their best work. The alternate English dub just doesn't have the same flair or sense of humor. Anyway, I don't know if there's a major search or not, but the Japanese Disney dub that's been my white whale has been Darkwing Duck. If only for the reason Ryusei Nakao (that's right, Frieza) was allegedly his dub voice actor. So far only a couple dubious clips of the theme song have surfaced, but it has been known to exist. Disney + does NOT have the dub, but has the Japanese track for more well documented show dubs (Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Goof Troop). Then again, it also does not have the Greek dub of Pepper Ann, and back before the days of official streaming, the Greek language dub was the ONLY recording of the Thanksgiving episode of the series.

I don't know if this is what you had in mind when making this, but I recall a long time ago, the developers of Mega Man X Collection (Xbox/PS2/GCN) commissioned a new English dub of Mega Man X4, only for Capcom to confiscate the dub, claiming they would use it for the Maverick Hunter X series... which never got more than one entry, meaning the dubs got locked in Capcom's vault for nothing. This tends to get smothered by the load of other Mega Man related lost media, such as Legends 3 and Mania,but it's nevertheless an intteresting one to discuss.

Did this actually happen

@@bluebaron6858 It's come up quite often in Mega Man-related Lost Media discussion. From what I heard, it used the Maverick Hunter X/Mega Man X8 VAs, and they were the ones who confirmed it did happen. (A few of them also did their takes on the original lines for the fans for fan edit videos, not to be confused with the actual lost media.) Obviously, the reason the new dub was being made is because the original X4 dub is considered to, well, have aged badly. Unfortunately, I don't think any of this was recovered for Mega Man X Legacy Collection.
