Very Rusty WW1 Bayonet Restoration

Very rusty WW1 bayonet restoration. I found this rusty bayonet in the forest on a WWI battlefield. In 1916, there was a German military camp at this place. Bayonet from the Mosin-Nagant rifle. I decided to restore an old bayonet that had been lying underground for 107 years. I removed the rust and preserved the metal. I hope you liked my restoration.

Музейна реставрація - співіснує з глибоким дослідженням об'єкта, технологій і засобів його створення, дбайливим втручанням в матеріал, використанням засобів консервації і збереження. Повного відновлення об'єкта може не бути через відсутність подібного ж матеріалу. Пошкоджений, але законсервований об'єкт в музеї часто виставляють поряд з його мальованою реконструкцією (тканина, різьблене дерево, частка скульптури чи архітектурна деталь, напис на камені, реконструкція повного зображення пошкодженого механізму, історичного костюму тощо).

Beautiful work! 107 years - and it was still in such a good condition that one could read the serial-number... imagine a byonet from this day and age. a solder can be happy if it survives one mission...

You found it near the emplacement of a German military camp ? Wasn't it a POW's camp ? Many captured Nagant rifles were given to POW's guards

Зачем портить хорошие вещи этой мерзкой жидкостью? Если уж заниматься реставрацией, то не лениться, и делать горячее щелочное воронение. Это не так сложно, если разобраться в тонкостях.

Плівки від холодного вороніння цілком вистачає для таких речей, експлуатація яких не передбачається. Лужне вороніння - це більше хімії і високі температури, також великі обʼєми розчину для занурення предметів.

What a nasty weapon... Bayonets that have a triangular cross section were banned by the Geneva Convention because the wounds made by them were difficult to treat & had a hard time healing properly.

Well that sure didn't stop Russia from adopting the M44 version of the mosin with hinged bayonet built in of the same type. Or the Chinese with the type 53 version and issued to the PLA in 1953.
