Loving the videos. Thank you. And please keep ‘whittering’ as it gives me time to process everything rather than have to keep rewinding! It’s clearly a deliberate presentation technique!!

Hi Stefan, first of all, thank you for watching ! I wish it was a deliberate technique, but I really am a bumbling old idiot but I cannot change that now. I plan to do a large frame engine strip soon as well, so hopefully that might be of interest too? Have a great Xmas and keep safe!

I'd been watching German and Italian videos until I found your channel, couldn't understand a thing so am now sticking with you for the rebuild. Thank you. Subscribed.

Thanks again for taking us along with you. That all seems to be in decent condition. How easy is it to source spares for a machine of its age?

Hi Keith, the internals look pretty good, because of the issues he was having he suspected that the engine had not ben touched, but it has certainly had new bearings and seals along with the conversion to later crank. It clearly has ben standing though as the clutch was well gummed up. As for spares, the old Vespas have superb back up. The small frames have a huge following in Germany and firms there seem keen to keep investing in remanufacturing bits, so things should be good for a long time. Thanks again for watching!

Very useful videos, I've referred to them many times. I currently have my cases stripped completely, any advice on refitting bearings? Gentle heat on the back of the cases and tap home? I've read contrasting opinions on freezing bearings beforehand because of moisture etc

Hi Guy, there are indeed differing opinions on the best method. My personal method is to oil the bearings and wrap them tightly in a plastic bag before going in the freezer. I then heat the case round the bearing seat and tap in with the best fitting drift / socket I can find. There is the possibility of condensation as the bearing comes back up to room temp but if it is oiled I don't think that is much of an issue, other disagree.

@@oldnutsgarage thanks for that, I thought about wrapping in a bag but didn't think to oil, good idea.

2:25 should the bearings inner race be able to rotate on the crankshaft like that? in my experience that means that the bearing is probably spun on the crank. but then again, perhaps it's different on a vespa? haven't gotten round to splitting the cases just yet.

Interesting point. The crank just pushes through the drive side bearing without the need for tools / pullers so the fit is a lot looser than on many engines. I relied on whether there were any wear marks on the crank ( no real signs of any ) before reassembly. The factory manual probably has a clearance setting, I will have to have a look. Thanks for watching!
