Perhaps explaining some confusion for anyone reading this, it is also worth noting Andy Le (yes the guy shown, no not spelled lee) was indeed also involved in this film, as he plays the masked antagonist Death Dealer, contributing his own distinct style to his scenes. You can find him on KZbin at martialclub, where there’s a lot of behind the scenes footage and his own Kung fu shorts and fight scenes.

@@TheAdventuresofMightyThor not at all lol. Second place behind shang chi for sure, but go back rn and compare any two fight scenes from either movie. TWS made a lot of improvements over typical action sequences in previous Marvel and Hollywood movies, such as improved choreography and movement, and a more talented/experienced stunt team, but it also suffers from some of the biggest mistakes that dragged previous films down. Shots cutting before the impact of a hit, and then stitching into a shot after the hit has landed is one of the big ones. It causes strikes to lose a ton of force on camera because the actual impact is never shown or felt. If a shot didn't cut the impact out in TWS, then it suffered from shakey cam to hide the softer impacts of the choreography, resulting in very light hits. Shang chi, on the other hand, for many of the fight scenes at least, kept long shots for not just one, but multiple hit impacts AND kept a much more stabilized shot from the camera. The stunt team on this was so incredibly talented. The hits felt impactful and were usually strung together in comparatively long sequences between cuts, all while keeping the camera stabilized in motion. I think it was actually this Corridor channel themselves that did a breakdown of this exact thing a while back which i recommend, where they discussed why Hollywood (and they used Marvel shots as examples) suffered from usually less fluid and impactful martial arts action when compared to specifically Hong Kong action sequences. Definitely worth checking out.

Yeah I gotta say that this disappointed me. They should have renamed the video to just have "Good CGI". I personally thought (subjectively) that Shang Chi had a lot of trash CGI that totally took me out of the experience of the movie (not to mention the screen writing was quite lacking). Specifically the bamboo forest, and pretty much everything in Ta-Lo. My wife had to tell me to shut up since I kept complaining about it while we were watching it. Lol. I understand that budgets and time-frames can be tight, and there was a chunk of decent CGI in this, but man did a lot of it ring hollow and actually distract from the movie itself. I would have Corridor to do a reaction that doesn't involve the people working on the movie so that they can actually react to it in it's entirety. Maybe start a new series for behind the scenes looks?

@@WhatsMikeUpTo Worse thing for me was the frequent obviousness of characters shot on green screen surrounded by CGI with lighting that didn't match and fake looking edges. The conversation in this video about the incredible work of artists making the edges perfect just falls flat when in so many shots it was awful. Amazing work in some shots and totally unconvincing work in others doesn't make for a great experience. You just get the feeling while watching that they had way too much work to do, even without covid restrictions. And yeah, simply no need for soulless CGI dragon fight at the end when the whole set up was about a dude and his dad. It should have stuck to that, and the emotion from the mother angle, which was decent. Draco ex machina was boring.

@@kafa6580 a decent one at least. Most of the stuff I've been making has been on a machine built with older parts. i5 3.2 ghz quad core, GTX 1050ti 4GB GPU, 16 measly gigs of sys ram and OS running on an SSD which helps with Windows booting up, mines boots up in seconds, and programs open faster too. I use a regular HHD drive for my long term storage, keeps the main HD from getting bogged down with a bunch of crap this way my OS runs pretty smooth.

I love that you asked about getting into this kind of job because _this_ - specifically marvel movie cgi - is everything I want to do in life when I get older. I love watching these videos because it's so cool to take a deep dive into movie cgi/vfx and see how things are done. Sometimes I look at it and think oh my gosh that would take me forever but the pay off is just so good and I'm really excited about all this. My and my fiancée saw this in the cinema last week (our first date in nearly two years as our first son was born Nov 2019 and impossible to get out and then the pandemic happened and as i’m extremely vulnerable we had to shield, so got our chance with family watching our son and our baby daughter due next week, had a nice meal and saw Shang-Chi and it was absolutely amazing. Enjoying it in a huge cinema screen but only 48 seats, all huge comfy leather and fully reclining seats. (All of the seats in the cinemas in Cambridge have these seats and have had for years, no extra charge or anything.) So the film was a perfect ending to a lovely day and we can’t wait to buy it on Disney+ when it’s out to enjoy again, with the sound of our toddler and newborn baby girl screaming around the place. 😂
