Miah Green it makes sense too, I think out of all the gems she really did have more of a kid parent relationship with Rose. I view the relationship with Steven like they're siblings, they're closer in a much different way than Steven is with more mother like figures like Garnet and Pearl, or his Dad. It's also distinct from the friendships he has with his beach city friends and his young couple friendship/ relationship with Connie. If anything its so valuable to see those different relationship aspects portrayed in a show for kids, maybe it shows them their brother or sister in a new light due to that sibling dynamic.

One of the ways her character development has been the best was the fact she only got hung up on the past TWICE. Those being the "Lil' Butler" Incident with Greg and her rant/fight with Pearl in the Prime Kindergarten. Sure, there was her moment of insecurity during her fights with Jasper. But that was towards her own personal issues, not about past events. Whereas Pearl CONSISTENTLY lets the past affect who she is now! Whether it be her identity, talking about the War, her own issues or even her hang ups about Rose/Pink Diamond, her relationship with Greg or Rose giving up her form to create Steven. She also has a hangup about becoming involved with humans, like Steven wants. But in that regard, she seems to be improving. Garnet only had...a handful of moments for character growth. Exposing Steven to her Future Vision, questioning her existence, the fight Ruby and Sapphire had about Pearl lying to form Sardonyx and of course. The not too recent falling out Sapphire had with Ruby about Rose's real identity. But of all this, Amethyst truly had the most frequent development

I agree to be honest! Though I do wish the moment where Amethyst shape shifted into Rose were brought up, addressed, and explained as well as it's what most people who don't agree she's developed default to thinking about first. Many seem to argue that since she didn't get repercussions for that action, she didn't learn even though everything she's done and become has shown she did learn her lesson in never hurting people like that again. Plus, in the way that people say that, Pearl never received consequences either when she had an outburst about Steven finding Rose's sword in lion and having more connection to her that Pearl. Pearl had left Steven to die making him think it was his fault, and he climb from nearly falling to cheer her up. That didn't come with consequences either, but in the way Pearl developed, she did still have similar outbursts. Still, she did still learn later on that she shouldn't blame others for Rose/Pink being gone, and she definitely shouldn't make it anyone's problem when she feels some kind of way about her and Rose's relationship. People just seem to find Amethyst lack of apparent consequences more obvious than anyone else's for some reason when many other have done similar things.

As in she is now developing very quickly in the timeframe the show is running. Pearl has a much greater history than Amethyst, being gifted to Pink Diamond (possibly originating from being White diamond’s pearl but that’s yet to be confirmed), guiding Pink Diamond through her first colony, developing feelings for Pink Diamond, joining by Pink Diamond’s side as she started a war against herself, poof-ing her own Diamond (may not be original but I expect that carries a lot of mental strain), witnessing a whole planet GENOCIDE and seeing her friends turn into mindless beasts which she must hunt down and trap for what she expects to be the rest of eternity and then losing Pink Diamond/ Rose Quartz. Her story’s peak happened before Steven’s began. Sure she has had development during the show but let’s be honest, where she shines is her history and how much deeper her lore goes beyond the others.

Yeah Amethyst is my favorite character for this reason. Amethyst and Lapis Lazuli are the most relatable characters because they tackle mental health, body issues, self image, trauma, and inferiority complexes. Amethyst has a lot on her shoulders, just like Steven, Amethyst is a gem equivalent to someone with a birth defect, similar to Padparadscha Sapphire. Her mother figure was a facade, just like Steven. She has to watch Steven, who is essentially her little brother, suffer due to his mother's legacy. She was constantly bullied by Garnet and Pearl in previous seasons, and is usually the first one to check on Steven. In What's your Problem, Amethyst put him before herself. Not only is she the most mature Crystal Gem, but she is the most human like gem. Amethyst is the best developed character, and it will be hard to overcome the precedents she's set for character development, when it comes to the other characters.

this made me realize that, prior to "too far" amethyst had no idea that she was off-coloured. this whole time i thought her bratty attidute in reason 1 (which peaked in "on the run") was because of that fact, and only now it dawned to me that she (or even the viewer for that matter) she didn't even know about it until peridot pointed it out in season 2. so her development in season 1 centered around her accepting her origins, while seasons 2 and 3 focused on her accepting who she is now. that's... pretty neat, tho i think she still has some ways to go (like opening up about her feelings more and not letting them bottle up)

Litterly every character has been majorly developed/ has been explored. Theres steven (obviously) who went from goofy immature child who only wanted to be like rose to the most emphatic character of the show and now wants to be his own gem and not like rose/ pink. Theres pearl who went from stuck up soccer mom to a very emotionally damaged induvidual who cant escape her past. Garnet who went from strong stoic leader who always knew whats best, to an emotionally complex characters who often feels lost in the world due too her inability to correct see the future. Which all makes sense because according ro Rebecca Sugar pear represents past, amethyst is the present, and garnet is future. Not only that we also have lapis who went from hating the crystal gems to constantly feeling trapped weather it be the mirror or malachite or earth in general, to an emotionally distant gem, to a full fleged crystal gem fighing the diamonds. Peridot who went from kinda goofy antagonist to a confused ally who didnt know how her surroundings worked, to almost pure comic relief, to basical lapis's yes man, to a stupidly brave crystal gem. Jasper who went from this flawless quartz solder to a fusion and power addicted mess. And we have rose who went from perfect flawless being, to a morally gray individual who is mostly characterised by being selfish careless and just overall just kinda not being great.

I would disagree with the opinion that Amethyst is the best developed Gem. My big problem with her development as a character is the fact that she never really had to face any consequences for any of the questionable things she did ranging from antagonizing Pearl (I'm not claiming that Pearl was completely blameless in these interactions) to self-destructive behavior that put herself as well as others In harm's way as well as full-blown malicious emotional manipulation like when she shape-shifted into Rose to torment and manipulate Greg. The episode in the kindergarten would have been fine as an explanation of why she is emotionally damaged but the problem is it comes off more as an excuse for it. A tragic backstory doesn't excuse her behavior. They're really needed to be something else to make her face some sort of consequences. I would argue that Pearl is the best developed Gem. Her tragedy and struggle are made agonizingly clear and her faults are highlighted and addressed.

um amethyst has been crucified for doing that characters like lapis and pearl have done much worse things. With amethyst she was left on earth talking to rocks until rose, garnet and pearl found her. Amethyst already made it up for greg by cleaning out his garage but yes while it was emotional manipulation or uncalled for, amethyst has faced the consequences already by going through hell and back in her character arc with jasper and steven. Pearl's backstory is tragic yes but she isn't really the best developed since she doesn't show as much emotional maturity as amethyst does now. Pearl is still really messed up from the pink diamond shattering and losing pink/rose she still has a lot to go through to be fully developed

shredded_hope I would hardly consider Amethyst's interaction with Jasper facing consequences for her actions. And I don't really see how cleaning a garage is making amends for transforming into somebody's dead wife in order to taunt him because he didn't do what she wanted. Sure Greg did forgive her easily but that's just the kind of guy Greg is. As far as I'm concerned that debt hasn't been paid yet. And sure she had a rough time on Earth before she met the other Gems but like I said a tragic past doesn't excuse bad behavior. In regards to Lapis I would highly disagree that anything she did in the show even came close to how awful the things Amethyst did were. And the big difference in the way Amethyst story arc is handled in comparison to both Lapis and Pearl is the fact that their wrongdoings are highlighted and addressed. Trapping Jasper in the fusion was just as damaging to Lapis as it was to Jasper and she had to acknowledge that it wasn't a healthy way to deal with the problem and decide to be better. Manipulating Garnet into fusing with her under false pretenses nearly destroyed Pearl's relationship with Garnett. It made her have to acknowledge and overcome her own weaknesses before she and Garnett could make amends. All Amethyst did was clean the garage.

If you had made this video before the recent Heart of the Crystal Gems, I would've disagreed, though I would concede that Amethyst's development was still ongoing. However, What's Your Problem is what got me to that, especially Steven stating she was the most mature CG and ultimately her reaction to it. It was essentially still acting like a child/teenager until you realize that you're actually 24, 25 and you've just made a major adult life decision. I do disagree that Pearl is second to that because I actually think Connie is next in line - though Connie has always been the more mature when compared with Steven - and third place would be held by Garnet as of these latest episodes. This isn't to say that I think Pearl hasn't been developed, because she has BUT in going with R Sugar's statements that Pearl is the CG that Steven knows the least about, she's still going through her development, now with less RQ/PD angst because she was able to reveal the truth. The character I think that has had the least development is actually Steven. On several occasions I've pointed out how most of his decisions have been disastrous and I am not all behind the notion that he's the leader of the CGs now (not unless they all want to die fiery deaths). However, what I think fans don't want to see/read/hear is that Steven is ALSO still developing; yes, he's made some good calls, but being right 4 out of 10 times does not make you a leader. I still maintain that when Steven actually acts his age, stops seeing in the world in black and white (in the way Connie popped out her 'rose colored' glasses when her eyes were healed), and stops minimizing his life just as 'Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond's son' THEN he'll have reached the level of character development the way Amethyst (as not needing to be a version of what Jasper was and no longer feeling shame about where she came from), Connie (going from a shy girl to a confident warrior who has/continues to let her parents know what amount of freedom she's comfortable with), Garnet (being able to show vulnerability as leader and no longer being a fusion because she was told she was the answer), and Pearl (finally coming to grips with her past and her feelings, making amends with Greg, protecting Steven because of STEVEN, hopefully gaining a better understanding and appreciation of humans by dating a human *fingers crossed*) and then, and only then, will he be in a position to actually be a leader for the gems.

Thats really realistic though. For example i am am an only child and my dad passed away before my mom. In the weeks before my mom died i could only bring myself to do short hospital visits. Some times only a half hour and toward the end not even every day. In my heart I know I did the best I could and she had other visitors but I still to this day - 4 years later have some self blame .... A lot of self blame about that. The hardest person to forgive is ourself and self blame - even mine and steven's is something we may not ever get over even knowing that logically there isnt a reason for the self blame.

@@Lucailey of course, it's all psychological. Steven isn't in any way at fault for what happened to Rose, it was her choice and hers alone, but he still blamed himself for it because the universe did it's best to remind him for his whole life that things would be better if she was around, and when he stopped believing that, all the bullshit she did started to come to haunt him, and then the cycle just restarted. It's an endless loop, but he managed to beat it somewhat. Maybe never completely, but that's okay.

She is mature because she puts the feelings of others before her own. She acts like the clown to make other people and gems last. Amethyst is one of the most. Selfless characters on a cartoon. She carries a ton of depression and hurt but wont let others see that. She uses laughter to try and make everyone around her happy - even actually most especially when she is doubting herself. That is is a type of maturity that a character like Pearl or Garnet wouln't really understand. Of course they have ways she does not understand but she isnt this big child they make her out to be.

Sure it may seem like that. But thing with Amethyst is: it is not so dificult to see an advance/develop in someone that is has no personality (at first). So it comes normal to see clearly the develop of that character, while others have a personality in-deep go-tru since the beginning.
