I don't remember if it was just our local station that played this or if this was in all of them - but at the end of the clip a news guy had one of the hoverboards and he tossed it on the ground and it didn't float.

The image quality is pretty bad. Probably came from a VHS recording. That's why we can't see the "lifting cables" properly. But good observations anyway!

@@edurockforever My mind was blown when i was watching making of Terminator 2 behind the scenes because they were showing filming of the future war and there was Terminator in background walking. I was like wtf no stop motion, no wires, no animatronics , and off course not advanced CGI wtf. Turns out It was rear projection screen (so yes it is hard to see in those lower quality videos). They build set and used combined videos with rear projection, models, miniatures andimatronics so that scene still holds up today - lol i was fooled by T2 documentary video seeing Terminator by himself just walking in background lol.......

Back to the future part 2 is one of the most underrated movies of all time and one of the best sequels in movie history. Just think of it, they had to recreate the 50's scenes from the first movie and the also created one of the best looking futuristic cities in cinema history. It continues very well with the first movie and you have a great storyline which includes three decades. Great entertainment and a great technical achievement

They used CGI to erase the wires of the cranes, and they also used chroma key whenever you see a model of the Delorean flying. The only difference is that the background was blue instead of green, and the process was optical rather than digital.

Honestly, nobody takes care of these old video recordings? making ofs were much cheaper and became much more common, but guys, in 1989 you already knew video remanence gets lost in time. Even going to the limit, in 1989 the first AVIDs already existed and one could digitize this so important making off for the future. I don't think money was a problem after the first super hit.

There was this lady watching another video and commented they filmed that when she was in 7th grade and her house was on that road when she was a kid. And she got up at 6 am with her friends to watch them film and she got to give Michael J. You should watch the Back to the Future 3 home video of people filming from their neighbors house across from Marty's house of them meeting Michael, the cast, and crew and their family/friends while taping scenes. It's very cool. You could see Michael standing there and walking around eating in Western costume and doing lines with the cast over and over again.

@@The12thDimension. watch Captain disillusion video about the effects in back to the future, using strings would make the car go all wobbly, it would be hard to have it to move that precise, i only said this because in couple of scenes in the movie you can tell some kind of pole object is used to move the entire car because they only show half of the car in those scenes, take the shot of marty and dr brown going to hilldale in 2015 to get jennifer, we start with a delorean model in a blue/green screen, here they use the same method they use in starwars, later it cuts to the actual real life delorean with doc and marty coming out of it, without any cuts when the door is open, so emptying the car to be as light as possible won't help when you have 2 actor in the car

Regina Clemente well I just saw another behind the scene back to the future and it showed you how did they create hoverbroad scene... put it this way... hoverbroards are not real. They used skates boards and special grapics to make it appear the riders were using an object not touching the ground. The producer is lying. If hoverbroards were to be true back 30 years ago, we would see them Today Out on the streets regardless of them being banned or not.

He made the same B.S. claims - that hover boards were real, etc. It seems everyone involved in the movie's production agreed to tell the same lie. It would have been out in the black market if it was real or China would be selling them by now too. It's 2020, if they can make magnetic toys hover, they could do it for skateboards or other things like cars. For flying cars it's all energy source. Right now, they just have wings on cars as a prototype to fly. That's about it. Only Hollywood for their movies and the rich has the futuristic cars and other high tech inventions.

They used all sorts of tricks, and I mean ALL sorts of tricks, in order to better misdirect and confuse the audience into believing they were real, so that even if someone believed they discovered a trick that worked on one scene, there would be another scene where that trick doesn't work (because they used another). When Michael J. Fox throws the hoverboard, and it hovers, that was fake tarmac with neodymium magnets underneath, and the board also contained neodymium magnets, so it would be repelled (but only in that specific spot). When a character is on a hoverboard, and you see his full body: he was hanging off wires that were deleted in post-production. When a character is on a hoverboard, and you see him from the waist down: he was hanging off wires, which didn't need to be deleted. When a character is implied to be on a hoverboard, but you don't see his feet: he was actually on a skateboard, so that no wires are needed.

Lots of different techniques, to prevent obsessed fans from guessing "the one technique". - Throwing a hoverboard on the street and making it hover: opposing neodymium magnets in the board and under the street, so the board gets repelled and stays put there - Jumping on a hoverboard and going off: the sole of the left shoe was nailed to the board, and Michael J. Fox was being held up by a crane - Full-figure characters on hoverboards: they are being held up by a crane, and a computer erased the wires - Characters on hoverboards when their feet are off screen: they are just riding normal skateboards
