Vibration reduction plate for Royal enfield | Installation & Review

This review is post installation of carberry vibration reduction plate on my #royalenfield continental GT. So we are trying to find a fix for royal enfield vibrations within the engine in 2018 unlike handlebar vibration fix in 2017. This is a more technical solution for fixing vibrations and minimizing them between speeds of 60km to 90kmph which are crucial for continental GT.Carberry claims that the engine #vibrationreductionplate is designed in such a way that it supports and stabilizes the RH crankshaft.This vibration reduction plate is currently designed for the royal enfield's powered by UCE(Unit Construction Engine).
I will cover the important aspects of this vibration plate post installation on:
a. Handlebar vibrations post change of vibration reduction plate.
b. Idle start vibration post change.
c. Vibrations post 60kmph.
4. Vibrations on chassis post change.
The existing plate covers the cam wheel on the right side below the clutch housing. There are three cam wheels altogether. The existing plates arrangement causes tension on the crankshft resulting in vibrations at higher rotations. The vibration reduction plate of carberry is fitted after the gear that drives the cam wheels. There are visors to fit on cam wheels and also a bearing on the crankshaft which sits on the vibration reduction plate thus offering better support and less tension on crank shaft.
You can use this vibration reduction plate on all the existing UCE models of royal enfield named; Royal enfield standard, royal enfield classic, royal enfield thunderbird, royal enfield electra, royal enfield continental gt. This is applicable for 350cc, 500cc models.I am not sure about Himalayan's engine construction.
Claims by carberry in its official page is:
1. Stabilization of uneven distribution of mass around the axis.
2. No backlash between the pinion and cam wheel on any angle of rotation.
3. Vibration reduction of royal enfield UCE engines between speeds of 60-90 kmph.
4. Increasing the life of bearings.
5. Reducing the cam wheel wear and lower long term wear on the teeth.

Wonderful - The real difference is visible post 60 km/hr .. the vibrations has greatly reduced .. the vibrations which you receive at the handlebars are good ones and the rattling of the mirrors has also gone down.

I would say go for a taller one , less wider. Go to a store and select one and try based on your height.

Hi Shounak, Thank you for the comments. I got my seat from the official service center of Royal enfield. They have a spares division that supplies the parts. The link to purchase the plate is in the description. If you plan to change the handlebar, select the one that is bent downwards or upwards and slanting towards you. This is the best composition that takes less vibrations to your hands. Do purchase a handlebar that isn't hollow and is strong. Hollow handlebars may require a bad end weight. I have been getting comments on the handlebar for some time, so I will do a separate video detailing the selection criterion.

You need to check with their spare division and ask them to order one for you. Himalayan handlebar for GT is not comfortable, it is very risky to ride with that handlebar, plus it does not dampen handlebar vibrations. Try using an upright handlebar.

Don't think so but you can try emailing the carberry, they may have tweaks for you . But at the moment its just for the UCE that were post 2011.

They are not as effective as counterbalancers but do give you a room to relax. The percentage measurement isnt based on any scientific notation of measuring vibrations but is a guessestimation comparing the old against new.

I have tried in my bullet 500standard one UCE...but its doesnt works...unusual sound was coming from the engine..replaced back with original plate after using 10kms of run. Very much disppointed.

Congrats on making such a good video!It was defenitely a very informative one...I own a tb500 and very confused about buying this...mine is 14k on odo. I'm a top speed lover though it vibrates it is very manageable till 110kmph.i would occasionally push my bike to 130-140 kmph on free highways.since carberry has mentioned 110 as the max speed. How is your bike behaving in higher speeds say 120-130??

It is really good information, actually re is not working on engines, they just doing cosmetic changes, since 2009 they just done lot cosmetic change in re 350 classic but not a single reform in engine. RE you have legacy but to keep continue this you need to upgrade quality.

There is no issue in changing it at 5k kilometers but if you feel your bike is smooth, there exists no reason to change the plate with carberry.

This is not RD 350 handlebar, RD is lot wider and heighted. This is more comfortable and apt to hold. You can adjust it to suit your needs.

Vibrations are a part of Royal Enfield that is the character of the bike you can’t take away that aspect from the bike. It cannot be compared to any other bike and is proudly MADE IN INDIA also it’s in a class of its own.

The plate is technically stated to stabilize the RH crankshaft. In royal enfield UCE engine there are two bearings on the left, while there is one at the right side.The stock plate covers the bearing on the ride side which comes fitted below the housing of clutch. This causes pressure on the crankshaft and increases vibrations at higher rev. According to #carberry the plate stabilizes the right-hand side of the crankshaft. The plate is fitted after the gear which drives the cam wheels. Also carberry provides an additional bearing installed on the end of the crankshaft, which sits on the vibration reduction plate offering better support. This is how it reduces vibrations.

So here are some thoughts for you: a. The stock version has lot of vibrations beyond speeds of 80 and after 120 they are extreme. There are mod's available to ease this but still it is unsahikyable! b. Overall the bike is very smooth to ride but at times it makes you feel that it is angry on you. Again the engine needs refinement. c. The gear shifting is better than the other royal enfield's and riding is smooth. It has lots of low end torque that makes you really really happy. d. With the stock arrangement, you can go as fast as 100 quickly within 4 seconds and you wont know that you are riding that fast. e. Taking turns and cornering is better than other royal enfield but not as good as ktm or other motobikes. It is realy heavy for the stock arrangement. f. You need to be atleast 5 feet 8 inches for you to feel confident in riding it. g. It is a magnet, every person who sees it passing will start watching it like a wonder. It looks gorgeous. Overall it is a marvel and you will love it each moment you ride. Maintenance is less than other royal enfields. I have completed 100,000 kilometers on the GT and I am happy with the motorcycle.

There could be several reasons: 1. Ask mechanic to check if tyres are properly aligned with the rims. It happens sometimes that it is fitted wrongly. 2. Check coneset

Depends on the riding preference. Duke is a very good bike but to me when riding it feels like I am riding some toy. Might be because it is designed to be weight less.

I dont think it will be suitable for avenger 220. Are you getting extreme vibrations in Avenger, I thought it was a comfortable touring motorcycle.

it was comfortable, but recently i m getting lots of vibrations post 60 kmph. i complained several times to service center, each time they say, its fine, there is very less vibrations and its normal for old bike. it has covered about 36000 km till now. above 70 its pain in ass to sit.

oops! that's sad to hear. Before you get inside the engine, Try to check the front forks and the cone set for alignment. Try changing your engine oil if you doubt maintenance could be an issue. If still the issue persists, contact a good mechanic and get the engine checked. Service centers wont support engine faults. If it is within warranty, ask them to correct or replace.

I think the vibration reduction plate isolates the vibrations from a certain section of the motorcycle. I have seen that there are vibrations in the mid section of the motorcycle.
