I think we could do a lot more to give people a sense of fellowship and community that isn't based around fantasies. Our work-obsessed, individualistic, and extensively competitive societies create a dynamic of isolation. When a person's only community is their workplace and their value gauged exclusively by the qualifications on their resume, it can box people into a corner that's never been natural to the human condition. We're very much social creatures. When you take away that social component, people start to look for it among the fringes.

@laurend98295 жыл бұрын
This was such a great comment, regarding fellowship and community that isn't based around fantasy. Reality shouldn't be so painful and socially removed that people resort to fantasy driven leaders. (Get your fix in books or video games the old fashioned way!) It's sad that we feel so without community. I feel this way, so I have to be watchful about where I try to find like minded people. Lonely people are at risk of turning to charlatans for their social needs. Society needs fixing.

As for “emf shielding paint”, the lead in lead paint is about 0.05% (by mass), not only is it not anywhere near enough to stop em radiation, it’s not what it was intended for so why call it emf shielding paint? I have aluminium foil in the insulation used in my walls and it blocks phone data, why is it one of the most popular type of insulation? Surely _the_ _man_ would want to put a stop to this shiny em radiations shielding people put in their houses? But no, they ban the paint that contains trace amounts of lead... riiiight 🤷♂️

No one’s saying that burning a candle with the thing you are worried about carved on it will actually make the thing go away; people are just saying that doing so can give you a psychological feeling of release. Understanding and learning to manage your sub-rational emotions (which sometimes involves using techniques like this) is essential to becoming a mature, high-functioning human being, so if you’re really into using your brain you should probably look into this.
@taiefmiah5 жыл бұрын
@Robo Cop that's alright. I'll make my brain magically release endorphins by just thinking. Maybe some serotonin. I'll also motivate myself by thinking about being motivated. The way people experience emotions doesn't work that way, because our emotions are drawn from past experiences and association. You're never truly in control of them, you just manage them. It's the same reason I can't make myself happy by sitting there thinking in my head "I am happy".

They become overly reliant on this group for a lack of social stimulation, and if anything remotely negative we're to happen it would shatter their illusion of being accepted. Really, resuscitated "within 2 hours of dying", thats not how the body works usually, sounds more like loss of consciousness. You can flat line for approximately 4 to 6 mins, anything after 10 mins means you are almost definitely going to have impaired brain function or loss of motor functions. Although after 20 mins in some cases there may be a slight higher chance to be resurrected via de-fib according to some. Finding it very hard to believe considering this would be a seriously rare case, especially as this was mixed with factors of high toxin levels and a 20 foot fall. I have a feeling this story has been heavily embellished. Is this to sound more "religious" through an act of resurrection hmmmmm..... Fuck this mate i'm out.

THIS. Reminds me of the tension between Modernism and Empiricism vs Kant and spiritual values (traditional, Christian), between societies and groups vs individuals. Depending on the situation. I have found that "problems" which cause or are associated with depression and anxiety are often unreal & imaginary and/or subjective. *Especially* true with so-called social realities, in contrast to what one person commented "Cancer". "Social realities" are to some extent fluid. "If 99% of the people in the world hate you, that would mean there's millions who love you" - some such quote. If you're Aspie and find rejection, it's possible to find acceptance, maybe not mass prom queen acceptance. Thinking about that girl who was bullied by groups of girls in school who invented an anti-bullying campaign and has appeared on TED and with various celebrities to promote that. To some extent, imagining "a new reality" -- which does not yet exist -- or which exists "in the future" -- or exists in God's intention for you -- or however a person wants to say it, that is or can be the first step to changing whatever is current reality. Mental illness or conversely mental health MAY LARGELY BE tied to this ... it varies how much is fluid and how much may be hard-coded or hard-wired in the brain. Business success books and such encourage learning about the nuts and bolts but also about imagining successful outcomes, in that imagining doom and gloom, focusing on overly-pessimistic outcomes, imagining failure, imagining humiliation, can be the insurmountable barrier. That said, good business people also cling closely to rational pessimism and rational risks of failure, because of the dangers of excess optimism and irrational risk-taking. Physical illnesses, such as a unregulated growth of sick deformed cells that aren't being killed off, that's a real phenomenon. People's *reactions* to a cancer diagnosis, such as excessive paranoia about having one, and emotional reactions to fears of impending sickness & death, life ending too soon, a lot of that is subjective, as evidenced by people's different reactions. Some people decide to open up their lives, accept, and live every moment with joy. Some sink into depression. Some decide herbs and vitamins and magic will heal them.

She actually has a video called "Mental Illness is a gift" and I actually really liked what she had to say about it. I not a member of the cult, I just found out about it a couple days ago and was intrigued, but I do think she is well meaning and trying to help people.

@Sahiyena114 жыл бұрын
I mean I'm hella not into this weird internet cult and it gives me the creeps hard, but Jones wasn't this way at all. Jones had issues obviously but his followers were mostly murdered in large scale. Jones started off by giving minorities and the disenfranchised a home and a place to feel important and ar home together. He began by doing something wonderful that naturally soured as he gained his power and influence. Many of his followers were absolutely not willing to kill themselves for him and would not have if they had not literally been forced by gunpoint and stranded in a compund in a foriegn country. I really suggest(if you can stomach it....) listening to the notorious death tape and looking into how Jones built his cult from something nice into a massacre eventually. I suppose my point is Jim Jones was the fucked up one and his followers payed for it. What scares the hell out of me is a cult like this started by a mentally unstable person who is able to bring other mentally unstable folk into her fold. It creates a situation where they begin to live in a fantasy surrounded by those whom validate said fantasy and can easily lead the collective to something awful. It worries me that instead of seeking your own answers and asking for help from professionals these people may end up stuck in a hive mind.

She is the epitome of "I reject your reality and substitute my own." I admire her positivity, and the fact that she had to break through some serious depression to get to where she is smiling almost all the time. As far as some people saying she is abandoning responsibility- how? She has a job. She has a place to live. It looks like she takes care of herself. She is doing pretty well, even by "society's standards", which is only a construct, anyway. She uses her own. Pretty cool.

I really like it. It's really great, more power to her. All this reasonable crap with one right way to view life, huh! Her only crime is that she lives in a different way. Seems enough for the people in the comment section to vomit all over her - guess whatever makes you feel better about yourself...

THIS. She's actually not harming anyone or using anyone like most problematic cults do. She says you can believe whatever you want out of it and only attracts those who truly want to be there. She is living her fantasy life and as long as no one gets hurt I think it's totally fine too. Kudos to you for seeing the same. And let the judgers be judgers, that's what they came here to do.

@Hairless Xoloitscuintle Cult = groupthink = easy to brainwash
@patypus5553 жыл бұрын
@Hairless Xoloitscuintle they say that about any cult, that’s why there’s a group called Cult Watch. What hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t - perhaps it has started and is not shown here. Possibly dangerous cult leaders will have a history of trauma and mental illnesses, not unlike this Unicorn girl.
@patypus5553 жыл бұрын
@Hairless Xoloitscuintle yep, and any church is known as a cult. Members are subject to brainwashing at anytime due to groupthink. Perhaps you should learn more about this Unicult- it’s not all rainbows and unicorns as depicted. Heard they’re trying hard to recruit members and charging a ton of money for their silly products. And they take it very seriously, making testimonials and such. This is exactly how Scientology started out.
@patypus5553 жыл бұрын
@Hairless Xoloitscuintle regardless of gender and origin, abusive cult leaders and members shouldn't have any children (biological or not), but, believe me, some of them will try. The fact that they recruit people is what's scary -- often the mentally-ill, lonely, desperate and/or poor people are prone to this.

Unicole was actually making original, genuine content long before Poppy became Poppy. I know this because I've been following Unicole on youtube for years, since the beginning of Unicult. Their intentions for creating are completely different. As Unicole derives from a genuine intention of helping humanity with her authentic perspectives and knowledge. Poppy's content simply promotes a dull and "quirky" aesthetic, more so relating to curated and glamorized "performance art", than anything substantial.
