The very act of not questioning someone because you think they're a guru or a saint is the beginning of one's downfall. Question everything, take no BS and definitely don't make excuses for their actions. Stay safe out there. 👍🙏
@crypticnomad

exactly! That is one of the first things a good spiritual teacher should teach their students. In spiritual subjects the skill of discernment is especially important and it really is a skill that takes time to develop. Before trying to do any deeper esoteric work one needs to have a certain kind of mental strength and emotional stability to avoid the "divine madness" problem and discernment is one way to build that strength. People who are more open and emotional need to offset that natural bias by doing something like mindful meditation, and people who are more closed and self-focused need to offset that bias by doing emotion based meditations like graitude meditation, loving kindness, compassion, etc. Obviously, most people that go down that path develop a suite a practices they use but nearly everyone starts off biased in one way or another and needs to work towards a balance before trying to go into deeper subjects.

@@crypticnomad Yep. Seeing far too many self-anointed gurus claiming they've been chosen to dispense infinite wisdom and, people falling hook, line and sinker for them. Sign of the times, IMO. Weak, insecure people are the reason so many "gurus" have come out of the woodwork. 🤦‍♂

I think it is very beautiful that many of these people remained very true to their spiritual path and at the same time are able to question and understand Yogi Bhajan and his human flaws as well as the harm the concept of a “Guru” can do to a group of people. I too lived with a Guru for three years, when I research other Guru’s, the story is always the same. I too am very happy I left, but I am still a yogi. I do not follow my guru anymore as I have a different tradition in which I can be myself. This tradition does not change me, it just gives me tools that support me to become a more loving person to myself and my surroundings. When I was with my Guru, I had to change everything about myself in order to become like “him”. It made my family very sad that I was cutting ties with them, so I left. I feel like a tradition should bring us closer to ourselves and our loved ones, as much as the unity with the entire humanity. There should be no elimination or separation. I needed to let go of my biological ancestors because “what is born from spirit is spirit and the rest is flesh”. Now I know that flesh and spirit are the same. I honor my ancestors, biological (and the culture I grew up in) as well as spiritual (through the tradition that helps me to grow as a person). I feel anyone who imposes their views and internally and externally tries to change their surroundings and the beings in it, is not a true teacher.

As a Hindu honestly, it was definitely funny and scary at the same time. I have never practiced this kind of yoga myself, but have heard its beneficial effects from mostly non-Hindus only. See, Its absolutely ok to practice it, but any other religion, using it as an anesthetic or controlling tool like this guru, including a foreign middle-eastern like conservative religion like Sikhism into this is rather killing me inside( similar to the rootless Christian yoga). Yoga is not native to Sikhism at all, they don't do these kind of any rituals like us Hindus. Same can be said about veiling our heads for women, which is not Hindu culture at all( but distinctive Abrahamic). Its necessary to learn the practices along with its origins, so as to not use it for setting your own narrative and bash the same culture later on.

yogi bahjan saved thousands of people from drug abuse- just this fact is so honorable- he gave them purpose in live : to be a seeker for the truth - to be a good person- to be good parents ... this is what western culture lost though capitalism and "satanism": in other words: this ME ME ME 24 hours a day in your head body an mind . Yogi Bahjan showed them you can easily get high with releasing Kundalini and even control it- who is able to control his mind and body can easily manifest what ever he likes on planet earth- a drugged person loses himself and pays the bill for going after big time illusions.

The pali Canon and related commentary are actually a little more condensed with valuable wisdom. It goes pali Canon (buddhist scripture) > vedas, upanishads, and other related Hindu texts)(im not too familiar with every single tradition but you could probably include jain and taoist texts here)> kabalah and Judaism > then Christian scripture (some people like meister eckhart would be legitimate wisdom masters) > then Islam would be the least concentrated

The irony is that this lost soul who practiced and preached living a "healthy" lifestyle, while living out his perversions, couldn't prolong his already established life expectancy among his people. In order for cults such as this to work, it requires impressionable minds that are vulnerable and put man before God. May God's love and presence be with all those affected by these events. ☝️🙏✝️

Nothing here is abusive like the title depicts. Those that got involved left happy and still practice his teachings. I don't even sense trauma when they speak. He wasn't perfect and it was a cult. They chose to be there and not by force. No one abuses you for 30 yrs without you snapping or disengaging once. This was just a cult with people looking for an escape from their miseries. They had free will and they used it. The click bait title is a first of its kind with "Vice". Won't be surprised if the person responsible was part of a cult or got controlled by someone to feel this deep about this that he/she had to pen such a misleading title

It’s easy to spot fake spirituality. You ask: -Are they asking me to rely on my own power and my own knowing? -How much money do they charge and do they try to make me come back repeatedly? -Do they make me feel like there’s something “wrong” with me, I have trauma I need to “fix” filling me with an insatiable desire to keep fixing things? -Do they have permission to share these teachings from elders in that tradition a larger and older community of people?

There was nothing in this video that showed anything abusive that this Yogi did. I dont know if there was other stuff in reality but the film just showed a bunch of white middle class boomer hippies of the 60s who were desperate for spiritual direction find that in "3ho". He didnt make them come to him and he didnt make them set up ashrams or even organise their lives in any particular way. These people came to him asking for direction of how to be happy , they enjoyed his rituals, teachings and eastern aesthetic. The film doesnt even once mention an exchange of money, which is something evangelicalism agressively mines from its followers. If there is ambivalence from former followers it is one of them perhaps realising that there is no answer of finding a perfect enlightment and happiness from an outside source, and that seeking it in a eastern looking yogi is just fetishism.

Nobody on this Earth is saving it or humanity and not do they have a sacred key to life, anyone claiming these things ought to be given a wide berth. To think that you are special enough to do the same or to be privy to some secret that the rest of us couldn’t understand or be enlightened enough to grasp is absurd at the best and narcissistic at the worst. Everyone is struggling because life is nasty, brutish and short.
