How Veronica Koman Became One of Indonesia's Most Wanted Activists | Censored

Veronica Koman has been branded a traitor for her work defending human rights in Papua, a region of Indonesia where state security forces have a long and dark record of human rights abuses.
It’s controversial work, even among human rights activists in Indonesia. Papua is home to a decades long fight for the right to self determination-a vote to decide whether or not to remain part of indonesia.
It colors much of the national discourse about human rights in the region, and it’s why some have branded Veronica a separatist.
Veronica spoke to Vice World News about the reasons behind her activism, and the toll it’s taken on her personal life.

I lived in Jakarta for 2 years, witnessed and read about human rights violations. The Chinese Indonesians are discriminated bc many are Christians or Catholics, the natives are 95% Muslims. I think if a Muslim male activatist reported the slaughter of Paupians , the government would not be this aggressive. Mixing religions laws within government always has deadly consequences especially for minorities too.

I know this is a video about Veronica Koman, but to understand the whole story you need to have balance arguments from both sides. I agree that our government should never monopolize information, which could easily let them hide the fact that they are killing people in Papua but separatists also killed teachers and road workers, this is a conflict, and violence must be stopped, peace must be restored. People in favor of democracy will ask for a referendum, but as we have learned from history Indonesia used the referendum to handpicked certain individuals to vote for Indonesia. A referendum is a flawed system from the start when in 1969 our military handpicked people to vote, today maybe everyone can vote, but as I have said it's flawed. People can be easily manipulated from both sides, people can be bribed to vote, it can be rigged. Aceh separatists successfully made peace with the central government and Papua can strive for the same ending.

Aceh got their peace treaty simply because at that time a massive natural disaster destroy the province. Even so today that province is becoming a laughing stock for the whole country, Not only because the ruling ex-separatists are failed to eradicate corruption in that province but applying harsh sharia laws here and there to the ordinary people, but also they failed to shown any significant economic developments even almost 2 decades enjoying trilions of USD injected by central govt to there up to the point where people now wondering what will gonna happened to Aceh when the 'special funds' that were injected to that province finally stopped at year 2022 in accordance to the signed peace treaty.

There are 32 pages promoting West Papua separatism have similar names and users behavior. They made 8,244 posts a month or 274 posts a day. Then, there's about 5 pages have admins located in the UK. She helps so many West Papuans to be able to speak their mind without having to worry that they will end up in prison or dead for the worst. West Papuan is a minority group in Indonesia. They have been facing extreme human rights violation (slow genocide) since 1960s until now. Between 100.000- 500.000 indigenous West Papuan have been killed (ethic cleansing) since then. Just simply ask them to share it with you. Or if you want to start just google "enough is enough! Testimonies of Papuan Women victims of Violence and Human Rights Violations 1963-2009". It is a journal done by The International Center for Transitional Justice works for justice in countries that have endured massive human rights abuses under repression and in conflict. i highly recommend it and you'll see how scary it is for West Papuans women alone. If anyone dig deeper to australian green party foreign policies, anyone can see that they are supporting separatist movements around the world including in separatist in papua.
