Thank you for bringing that to light. I gave you studies as to why video games don’t cause violence. You stated that I should stop playing video games because they downplay the severity of murder and that I should provide a reason as to why I shouldn’t play video games, so even though I’ve answered the first part of that statement (which you didn’t even acknowledge,) I’ll reply to the second one, too. Why are rape jokes different from video game murder? For starters, there are studies that state that video game violence doesn’t have an effect on irl violence, which I showed above. Meanwhile, here’s a study stating that when exposed to sexist jokes, men showed higher levels of rape proclivity, meaning. The statistics speak for themselves. Most of them do it to crave some sense of fun, but I doubt that their only impression of fun is to enact violence. In video games like GTA V, what players find fun about it is the fact that it provides the player freedom to wreak havoc, not really the murder part. Meanwhile, with rape jokes, there’s no way around it. What does rape itself satisfy? It satisfies someone’s sexual desire. Sometimes their desire to overpower someone that’s weak, but ultimately, it relies on their sexual desires. When someone wants to genuinely hurt people for the sake of hurting people, we call those people psychos. When people want to satisfy their sexual desires, they’re just horny. And when men, particularly Duterte, joke about it, people who rape aren’t rapists. To them, they’re just horny. Also, I don’t think I have to point this out, but video games are just simulations. They aren’t real. The people who joke about rape are very much real, because in a misogynistic society with a misogynistic leader heading it, those men provide justifications for rape, which DOES undermine its severity. Let me give you a piece of advice as well: starting an online argument about something I doubt you don’t even feel that strongly about just frames you as pretentious. You say I used the wrong wording for my initial comment, but doesn’t the point still stand? We’re both against the sexism. And yes. I know what a false dichotomy is. As a German who’s with a Filipino friend in the U.S, I’ve heard he has a daughter who’s now a vice president, let’s see how he reacts if she becomes the next president. But I’m telling this not coming from emotions but more of logic. I’m not really much affected by what they call sexism unless they really really punch it too much straight forwardly on me if that makes senses. This observation of filipino society is so much misplaced. Filipino society are actually more matriarchal. We put so much onus on the women in our family. Our mother, sister wife. Look at how the store owner says this things about women. She says that when duterte is saying these lewd words he is disrespecting his mother. Yes respect for our mothers sisters and wives are the NORM, this foul mouthed duterte is just an anomaly. It is always the woman who are put first in our society. They have so many organizations helping in different aspects of their life. Are there orgs for boys? In lrt mrt system they have their own coach in front of the train. The conclusion of the journalist that sexism towards females is still rampant in filipino society is just plain wrong. We actually treat boys as dispensable. Families dont care if boys are injured when playing..but the girls are over protected and given most of the resources in the household. In work the boys are always assigned physical and strenous tasks which are really unfair. Girlfriends are allowed to hit their boyfriends as much as they want..but when a boyfriend hits their girlfriend its considered assault or battery.

The point of Vice was to call out the way Duterte spoke about women because it is degrading and misogynistic. If you are in our place and you hear these "jokes" about your va(gin)a, virg(in)(ity), skirt, and r(ape), it messes with you because that's the president for goodness sake. These type of jokes are out of line. He's a public personality, people look up to him, they consider the way he's acting/joking as fine because it's him, the president. Jokes like these should not be spoken in public or national television. You can be a good president without joking about women's physical appearance. He is a better president than the past but if we, women, must be verbally judged to pay for his leadership, then PH never did move forward with gender equality. P.S. Not DDS and not anti-Duterte.
