Witchcraft in Romania

In Romania, the homeland of Dracula and superstition, witches were pretty much spared from the medieval witch-hunts that plagued most of Europe and killed 100,000 women. In fact, witchcraft here is not only alive; it’s thriving, and it’s even feared by politicians. There are hundreds of witches in the country, and they make and break marriages, cure diseases, cast or release people from good and evil spells, and predict the future. Supposedly, one in ten Romanians visits a witch.
To find out how this influences modern Romanian society, Broadly correspondent Milène Larsson spends a week with Mihaela Minca’s witch clan and learns how to brew a love potion, cook up a curse, and even witnesses the exorcism of a woman supposedly possessed by the devil. We also meet Minca’s mother-in-law, Bratara Buzea, reputedly one of the world’s most powerful witches, who was jailed under communism when dictator Ceausescu banned witchcraft. Finally, we celebrate Summer Solstice, the year’s most important celebration, when the witches use their magical power to predict the future of mankind in the stars.

Story time from my own experience as a Romanian who once went to such a witch. I was 15 and wanted to have my cards read (nothing else , no potions no nothing). I managed to get an audience with a well known witch through an aquaintance, they usually don't accept underage people but I I guess with enough money anything can be done (my folks were loaded back then and I received a lot of pocket money) I even snuck out of the house at 6 am to go see this lady. She read all sorts of vile things to the point I started feeling physically sick and vomited. She told all that would happen in the next 10 years, including my parents' divorce and the bankrupcy with incredible accuracy. I was never a religious person but I felt so physically sick the next 2 days after the reading I went to a priest (it helped , all he did was pray with me ...maybe meditatiom in any form does help the mind and body) In any case...if you ever consider doing this, please don't. The magic these people practice always comes with some negative things that they will never disclose. I have a few other stories from my own family, witchcraft is still very popular here.

Fascinating video! As someone who has been working for 8 years in a nursing home in Bavaria that is over 100 years old - with one section even dating back 300 years - I can say that I've experienced some very strange phenomena there. During a night shift, I was pursued by dozens of bats. There have been times when the patients suddenly displayed odd behavior as if they were possessed, and objects inexplicably disappeared. Plus, sudden cases of illness among the staff put us all on high alert. The head of our nursing home is a Romanian woman named Michaela, and she has several Romanian acquaintances who also work with us. This video has opened my eyes and explained some of the strange occurrences I've witnessed. I can now say with certainty that witches are real and living among us. And by the way, based on my experiences with the bats and the strange phenomena, I wouldn't rule out the existence of vampires either! Please stay vigilant and stay informed. Great video!

My best friend in Romania used to live with his mother in a flat above an elder woman who was practicing witchcraft, her mother used to be an actual witch. When you hex somebody, they will fear for bad things to come so they basically manifest the hex even more themselves. But also keep in mind harsh manipulation spells are extremely dangerous and always comes back 3 times worse, and i know this from experience. I once did an obsession spell and when i tell you i was sick for a week straight after, I’m not lying. It's kinda scary how well some people can alter reality for others. Witchcraft has a huge culture and fanbase (mostly colored haired alt girls and gypsies nowadays but that's not the point) so people turn to it as a last dispair, because they're afraid of rejection. One thing to know about Romanian gypsies is that their livelihood depends on how manipulative and assertive they can be, so they all develop a very strong sense of seeing through people. The more you seek their guidance in witchcraft, the easier it is for them to make you believe it works. It's just a very well conducted placebo. It works up your confidence by making you believe it's 100% sure that person is going to be yours, while in fact, they just gather enough information to deduct if they like/want you back or not. And they don't need a whole lot of info, because they know people better than anyone. I've lived amongst them most of my life and they're the most social people you can meet, and they're often too much and pushy. They always want to talk to you and aren't willing to let go easily. If you can't control the situation, you'll be talking with them for a long time. Just to clarify: not all Romanian gypsies are like this, but I'm talking about probably the biggest group. There's many others, some are like a super rich cult and aren't allowed to interact much with others, and ofc there are many that try to integrate more into society (school, uni degree, honest work, etc) but they probably have it the toughest they are still treated as thieves that can't be trusted.

Wow Romanian sounds a lot like Italian. with that said, my great grandfather was a curandero which just means healer. The village would bring him their sick animals and he would heal them. Almost like a veterinarian but uhhh he’d do incantations and the animal would be well again. He also would make medicine using local herbs to heal just about anything, for animals and humans but that’s normal. My mom was offered to learn from him but she was atheist growing up so she didn’t like it. He did heal her from a nasty burn mark on her face using an incantation and even then she didn’t believe. Anyways, fast forward to modern day and now she basically does regressions and hypnotherapy for people without ever having studied how do it. It just comes from within her and was able to heal people’s emotional problems. So her family from her dads side comes from a long line of healers I’m assuming. Too bad I couldn’t learn.
