VGG was my motivation 5 years ago to tackle the revival of my pontiac grandville. When I got it it had not ran for 22 years. I used all of the methods that I saw watching VGG. You literally inspired me to start my own project here in Australia 😂, for YEARS ( a good 25? Maybe ) I've been driving past a farm that has a few cars parked in a row, few looked abit worse for wear, others where okish and some had just become a pile of rot, after watching one of you're revival videos I thought bugger it I'm going to pull in and see what that's all about one day, about a week later I saw the old fella out on his tractor so hit the skids and pulled in and waved him down, got to chattin with him ( decent old fella that liked to have abit of a chin wag ) and we shuffled over to the abandoned car lot, I had my "peepers" as you call it 😂 on 1 car, a 72' Holden HQ Statesman De Ville, I asked if he'd be interested in parting with it and he said sure chuck him an offer, I said $2000 and he came back and said "if you can get it gone today you can have it for $1000, so raced home, grabbed a mates tilt tray and some cash and went back, he was waiting there ( had slashed the grass around it for me ) and we got to talking again while loading up ( I hadn't even looked in the car yet just a quick look on the outside, very very minimal rust which had me interested) he said it used to belong to his son, his resin had blown up the original V8 that was in it ( think it was a 308, could or been a 350 ) and had put in a new motor an trans but then became sick and sadly passed away, chat for a good 40min more and got it home where ( under your instructions) checked out the boot first, and shit.... a set of heads.. aa fuel mixer... a charger whirly and a metric ton of wiring and gaskets 😑... thought to myself ok so what's the engine bay look like and what did he put in this HQ when he blew the original motor, popped the bonnet to find a brand spanking new 454ci crate motor that had never been run 😮 found paperwork in the glove box for it, and now I'm slowly restoring it while keeping the old fella up to date with what the progress is, so thankyou for bringing us these revival videos mate, your inspiration has led me down a path I would have never gone down and now glad I did 🤙💙🇦🇺

There's a trick that some GM Mechanics taught me back in the 70's for changing the sparkilators on the A/C compressor side of GM vehicles. Jack that side of the car up via the frame until the tire is just barely touching the ground, then use a long extension (36 to 48" long) and a wobble socket to go over the top of the tire, above the upper control arm, thru the black rubber splash pad to get to the sparkilators. Works like a charm. My old boss at Goodyear couldn't figure out why I put an Impala on the lift todo a tune up until he saw me change the plugs that way. The old guy about pooped his pants when I changed the plugs in about 5 minutes on that side.
@aliasfred
@aliasfred Жыл бұрын
My wife's '73 Ventura Custom was almost the same, except it was the rear plug on passenger side, took the front wheel off and hole sawed a 3" hole in the rear of the steel wheel tub and reached in with an extension and a socket, made a rubber flap and screwed it to the hole. Years of having tune ups done and no one ever changed that plug and they charged her for 8 plugs. Then she married me and she got a real tune up.

I started watching your channel about 3 weeks ago and I've watched a bunch of your old videos. I love watching you get these old cars up and running again. I remember many days tearing down old cars so my dad could build a roll cage and turn it into a street stock dirt track race car. Love that you allow your kids to get in there and get their hands dirty. If I had it my way I'd love to just tinker on old cars but of course as we all know bills don't stop 😋. Keep up the great videos, I'll be watching all your content. Oh yeah another thing is I love the Red Green Show and you remind me sooooooo much of that show. Your personality is one of the reasons I enjoy about your content.

I’ve been watching your channel a lot but this one has to be one of my favorites, my grandad had a Pontiac Cadillac dealership when I was just out of diapers. My whole family had Pontiacs from the family station wagon to moms LeMans, big brothers GTO big sisters Catalina and my restored 64 Tempest convirtable! Thank you Derek for refreshing all those sweet memories! Please stay safe and always be awesome 😎

My buddy in high-school had a green '70 Catalina. It was a great car, back when you could get stuff for cheap and it lasted. You could roll around with 6 people comfortably.

I'd love to buy this car.. my grandfather and grandmother had one just like this when I was a kid. My uncle junked it years later without trying to fix it. Seeing this revival brought back memories of riding in the back seat with my grandpa driving. Thanks so much for what you do, Derek.

If I had one wish come true, it would be to go back as a kid and ride in the back seat with my brothers, as my parents went to get groceries, which was a typical Friday night. Such a little thing that meant nothing then but means so much now. Reading comments here and on his other videos, Derek's channel brings a little piece of those memories back to so many of us. You can't put a value on that.

Mom’s brother in law had the four door Grande Ville version. Dark green with white vinyl top that replaced 1967 Bonneville ragtop. White with black top and red interior. Both epic Pontiacs. Almost forgot the Nocturne blue 1963 GP that came before both. PMD gone yet not in the least forgotten!!

That car bears a resemblance to my parents' 1972 Pontiac Bonneville, 2 door, black on black with a 455 engine. Got about ten miles to the gallon and ran smoothly, like a tank. Enjoy that vintage cruiser !!

Derek, I've been following you almost since day 1 and I have to say that it is a constant pleasure to ride along with ya and be a small part of returning each of these vehicles back to active (or somewhat active) duty. I've always been a tinkerer and have always owned used vehicles and getting them to run right and extending their life has been a lifelong affair, so you and I see eye to eye on a lot of matters related to cars and trucks. Keep the dirty side down and I'll see ya on your next adventure.

We had a 65 Catalina Ventura, 421. It had factory dual exhausts with cut out pipes (never opened) and cast iron headers. One of the best cars we ever had. Fast too! It would break loose the tires if you hit passing gear at 80. It was champagne gold. It was a,dealer demonstrated. It had a,421 SD in it. It was supposed to be a 389, nope. It was supposed to impress future buyers. One time when my mom was pissed she burned rubber at every intersection for about a block each time. When we git home I had to use the garden hose to wash the tires down and cool them off before my dad came home.

This video sure stirred up some fond memories. A 72 Catalina was my grandfather's last car. It went to my father and was our family car for many years. One of the first cars I ever worked on and still a personal favorite. Between the three of us ours had over 400,000 miles on it before frame rot turned it onto a demolition derby car. Having computer problems as my number one car issue in recent years, I long more and more for a car like this that could be fixed with a good ear and a few tappy tap taps. ps: Sure sounds like a cam. If memory servers the stock 400 ran very smooth with no thump / lope. Thanks for the memories.

Haven't even started this one yet...but memories, ya know. When I was in college in the late 70s (yeah, I'm that old!) I got a 68 Catalina with the small block 400 for $300, body was ok, interior was mint. Could fit like 7 friends with luggage. Awesome car! Went every where, always started ...even 10F below in Syracuse. Those were the days!
