When The idea of having content from setting up fuel tanks was mentioned, it puzzled me. Around here the local jobbers will bring a tank and they are up on a cradle, and have a hose with a dispenser nozzle , it is just dragged off a trailer . They provide it if you buy their fuel. Ours was 250-300 gallons or so. It would hardly be enough footage for a “ reels” video.

I used to drive a tractor for my grandad pulling a hay rake just like that. I was probably 13 years old when I was helping him do that. We cut, raked into win-rows and square bailed a bunch of hay in the summers of east Texas. Good times with my grandad. He’d say, “just don’t tell your mom I let you do this”! Haha

Met a gent yesterday at a gas station in Tennessee who had a 72 GMC pickup. He told me he still uses it on his farm. I told him the old truck looked great and to please keep using it, that's what they were made for. He agreed. Older tool are the best. Thanks for taking us along ~ Chuck

Back in the 1960's we went from a steel wheel side delivery rake to one of these. The red and yellow paint was very bright, and it worked just wonderful You mention bunching up the windrows and that side delivery was a master at doing that for us. Remember stopping at those bunched up piles and slowly feeding the baler with a pitchfork. And yes, we mowed and raked with an 8N and baled and hauled hay to the barn with our Farmall H.

Your entire experience reminded me of growing up on the farm in Minnesota. Have a plan to get something done, one piece of equipment doesn't work, the next one has issues, you make some farmer repairs (good enough for today, but probably won't get fixed tomorrow) and then the weather turns. Many of us have made sacrifices to live in the country on the farm. Truthfully some of us don’t know anything different. One thing we never had to worry about was food. It’s just a different type of lifestyle most people have a hard time understanding. I see people moving to the country all the time they don’t know how to react with Their neighbors.

We're in our 4th year on 5.37 acres in WV. Thankfully, my cousin and our relatives and friends and our neighbors have shown us how it's supposed to work. Cuz and two of his longtime friends helped us fell and cut up some huge oak trees (some were/are "danger trees"!) I offered Ronald some money towards fuel for the tractor. He scowled at me and said "no"! "This is what neighbors do!" I don't know when I can pay him back with my help, but he is not worried about it! Nothing else like the experience of living in the country! Love your videos and the things you share with us, Derek! You are an amazing human! Thank you for everything you do! ❤️

Just a Few acres uses this hay rack. He just used this machine to do his field in his recent video. He cut 5 acres… He uses all old equipment. He fixes and upkeeps it all. The old stuff is simple and gets the job done! So awesome you got the old tractor with the place! Loved the video you did getting it running.

Show it all. The house i grew up in was right next to a hay field. For many years, I used to just sit outside and watch the farmer cut, rake, and bail the field. A couple of times, he even let me ride along with him. Brings back a lot of memories. I can hear his big ole John Deere with the big 2 cylinder engine poppin as he went around the field in my head right now.

The roads filed with tractors and other large machinery, folks out working hard, waving to each other, and being able to stop and just say "Hi". How blessed we all were back then. We had 250 gallon diesel tanks when we had a trash service company. It was fun when my dad told me to fill up the truck and I had to stand there for like 15 minutes rotary hand pumping 50 gallons into the trash truck. It was quite the workout for an 8 year old. Now we only have the one on a trailer that we've been thinking of turning into a smoker. Definitely show the process of getting some tanks installed. It'll be nostalgic.

I grew up on a farm, and watching a square bale hay baler operate was always a fascinating thing. How it got the hay to pack into flakes that you break a bale apart into once you cut the two retaining ropes. Oh and the beat and sound of the baler as it would cut and tie knots in the baler twine every 30 seconds or so....memories!! And you could adjust the length and high tightly packed (weight of the bales) as well.

I baled tons of hay when I was a teenager. Working on farms is how I earned my money. Riding the wagon stacking bales, loading the elevator,and working in the hayloft. That was the worst. Hot, dusty and no air flow. Work on the farm all day and then play baseball at night,or hang out with friends. No way I could do that now.

I spent many ah day raking hay with a John Deere M or a WD45 AC. We had a scissor rake like that, plus a wheel rake I liked better because its didn’t knock the leafs of the alfalfa like the scissor rake. We had a John Deere 730 Diesel we ran our big round baler with. All open cab tractors. We also had a JD 60 with a straight stack, after a full day running the straight pipe I would lay down at night and still hear the pop,pop,pop,pop,pop in my head. Those was the days. Growing up on a farm in the 80’s in rural southern Indiana was amazing times. Our farm was by the Ohio River. I remember looking at Kentucky across the river and watching the Barge tugboats going by and waving at some dumb teenager on an old John Deere tractor. I remember getting the fog horn a time or two. This brought back great memories. 🇺🇸🦅🏁

I’m 42 and I remember when I was still a little fella and we used an old sickle bar mower and hay rake just like those. We pulled ours with JD 600, 620, & or 630 though. These days it’s diesel tractor, crimper mower, big v rake, and a 2000-2500 round baler.

I started at 10 years old raking hay with a Ferguson Tractor and a New Idea rake. :) Essentially the same rake and tractor as used here, We used the 3 point hitch bar with the stabilizers. Never cranked the rake up just lifted the hitch arms. Memories

My first haying experience was with that type of rake and a Ford 841. In the Catskills mts. Got it given to me tens years later and I completely restored it. Its still in PA being used on gravel dives. Snow and leveling. Great tractor!

I can pretty much sit here mesmerized by every part of the process of growing and baling hay. Used to ride on the back of my uncle's tractor sometimes in about the most unsafe way imaginable watching the process. Maintaining the equipment, discing(disking? harrowing?) the field, seeding, fertilizing, cutting, raking and baling are all things I thoroughly enjoy watching.
