VICE News traveled to the Amazon to see what modern day gold hunting looks like, how Ecuador is dealing with its new gold rush, and whether Barron is actually about to strike gold again. Watch Next: South Africa's Illegal Gold Mine - bit.ly/2KSGzVl

VICE News Are you going to cover the moment they strike gold again? According to todays press release it might happen from next week and on. Digging in the target Yawi is on and the government of Ecuador is positive to mining the way Aurania projects this process.

2:33 are you joking?. there is no operative mine in the world returning clean water. most of time industrial water is contained in dams until minerals sediment, but the dam area is still no suitable for life because of all the chemicals needed in the process of metallurgy. even the area underground the facilities gets wasted because the filtration of those chemicals.

Then they get "fined", not really that complicated. The reality is they're not reviewing the project before it is initiated to see if it can keep its promise, the policies are there to push for more leverage that prevents them from having to wait decades for settlement in court like their example with Chevron.

Hmmm. Gold is worthless if you can't find it and use it. If you think about it, it's the same way for the amazon forest. If these explorers can't explore and enjoy the forest then the forest is worthless. If you can't experience something it has zero value.

@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 Wow you talk a lot of rubbish with plenty of authority. Gold is worthless and just an agreeable source of value? It valuable becuase it's very rare and has almost zero reaction with oxygen. Native Americans didn't use gold and didn't see the value of it? I suggest you visit Museo de Oro in Bogota, you will learn the lengths indigenous people went into extracting and crafting gold and how it drove their technological and societal growth.

This makes me really sick. Where are all the environmental groups that were so against all mining in Ecuador during former president Correa’s government? Why are we allowing foreigners to come to our country and steal our resources? Do you really think they will clean the water and that there would be no impact to the environment? I’m not against a legal and sustainable exploitation of the land if that means that native people will at least benefit from it having access to basic human rights such as health, food, and education. Unfortunately we all know this is not the case. This is just taking advantage of these people. Very sad...
