The implications for this in the treatment of disabilities is astounding. As a homebound disabled person who lives alone, I think something like this would be great. It would feel odd having someone physically around all of the time which would make me feel like I'm not truly living on my own. I think having a virtual assistant/companion would be nice to help remind/encourage you to do chores and congratulate you when you make it over the little hurdles you face on a daily basis. If they get it to the point where it could hold a "conversation", that could be beneficial, too. It would be a way to help feel less isolated from others. And, heck, if it helps people practice feeling more open and conversational, I can see that as a good thing. :)
