"People often ask me how I feel about my invention being used to kill people every day and the AK being a common weapon of ethnic conflicts. I want to make it clear that I created my assault rifle to protect my country. You can blame politicians for its spreading out of control on a global scale." --Mikhail Kalashnikov, RIP

I understand, but why is that a huge point? An AK made at Radom or Cugir is the same weapon as a Russian one. Where it's made isn't going to change public perception of the weapon at this point.

I think it is that in Western media, the AK is almost always shown as the bad guy weapon, when it also sees equally extensive use by legitimate military, police, and paramilitary forces. Really? I just bought an Arsenal SLR107 last week. Its completely Bulgarian produced, minus the trigger and furniture. The WASR10 AK from Romania is always available brand new and they are entirely built in Romania. The only AK rifles you can't get in the US Brand new anymore are Russian because of import bans. There are plenty of overseas AK rifles available here in the US. Not to mention the hundreds of parts kits you can buy and slap a better quality US Made barrel and receiver on.

FastRomanianGypsies Cheap, easy to mantain, will work on most situations, easy to train people to handle it and deadly. Certainly not the most accurate but in modern war that doesn't really matter that much for the average civilian-turned-into soldier. It has its flaws but overall a great weapon.
@Regules010
@Regules010 9 жыл бұрын
FastRomanianGypsies They replaced it with the 74. Which is the exact same design with a smaller 5.45x39 round with similar ballistics to our 5.56 nato M4s. Other than the round and the muzzle brake, its the same exact gun.
@cls2518
@cls2518 9 жыл бұрын
FastRomanianGypsies Then I'll assume you didn't read anything I wrote. So let me explain it again. AK-47 has it flaws, yet it's still reliable, deadly, easy to mantain, and easy to train people to handle it and most of all: IT'S CHEAP as bananas. USSR made 75+ million units of AK-47 so it's available everywhere for a very low price. AK-74 is superior? Sure. It has many design improvements, better accuracy and range. But to the untrained average guerrila, it doesn't really matter because it's more expensive to arm many people with low budget. Also, AK-74 being superior doesn't automatically make AK-47 a bad weapon.

C. This article was perfectly non bias looking until you said "until then they sell them to nations who make war" like come on you almost had a nice bipartisan video

VICE News Hey Vice, when the Russian shooting instructor says the caliber of the rifle is ".50 to .45 to .39", I'm pretty sure that's a mistranslation of "5.45 x 39mm", a common rifle caliber for Russian weapons. It's roughly equivalent in power to our 5.56 x 45mm ammo used in AR-15s

VICE News The last part of the video: "they won't prevent Kalashnikov from selling the so called weapon of piece to those making war around the world." and Vice combines this phrase with footage of Russian paratroopers in Crimea, where nobody died thanks to professional behavior and good training, as opposed to any campaign the US had ever embarked upon, with civilian death tolls exceeding thousands and being re-branded as collateral damage. Does anyone else have any doubts about VICE being a mouth piece for the US state dept?

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for all the nasty things that the rest of us have ever said about Russia. I would also like to point out that while Russia seems to have not only the best insults and the most willing debaters, it seems to be(historically) a back water empire that no one wants to conquer. This is important because all it's wars have been fought on the borders, and it's greatest defense has been the cost benefit analysis made by it's adversaries. The only way to motivate outsiders to invade Russian federation territory is for Russians themselves to create a conflict large enough to justify it. Maybe the history and current policies of Russian aggression should be reevaluated by Russians themselves. You should understand that my own family only ever described Russia as prison to be escaped. Never as a prize to be conquered. Just a nightmare of endless misery. And the folks in my ethnic group who romanticize the old way of life in Russia are looked upon as being inbred mental cases. Tradition!

Not an easy place to live or remain peaceful when you must defend yourself and family from a tyrannous governemnt in such cases people are forced to join rebels in order to feel safe. Its hard to understand in countries with actual rules, legislation and everything else around us. I have heard what its like tonleave that place with almost nothing but your lives. I am happy Russian people can free themselves to the American dream, I wish it was easier for people to leave safely. Russian people are faithful and hard working people. I have many more good things to say. But I think this will do. Understanding our Russian brothers and sisters can make us more greatful for what we have to share with them!
