Only real musicians understand how amazing this is. Music is Communication, it doesn't matter if the words you are using are complex or simple, what matters is HOW you say it. This guy is straight up poetic on the drums, but I'm not going to lie, I used to think this was just simple shit, but after studying music more thoroughly -- jazz, funk, dynamics, and technique it became clear to me why this guy is such a renowned player.

Exactly. One of the things that I don't think that I noted is that drummers like Steve have MASTERED pocket playing. Take any young cat (like myself), and we may be able to groove, but we are going to make mistakes. A drummer of Steve's experience can make a groove go for HOURS and NEVER make a mistake. That's what we all want to aspire to. That's what a real drummer does.
@neilmoneymaker4875
@neilmoneymaker4875 6 жыл бұрын
Good God!!! He is so smooth and tight on the drums even someone who's never held a stick in their hand, and can barely play a radio, think they can sit down behind a kit and play too. He's not playing 220 bpm, or doing anything so freaking intricate it would be folly to try and figure out most or all those licks. But, playing with the same precision yet not over playing ever single lick at the same time, and still groove as Steve Jordan does is rare indeed.

The measure of a musician/artist/drummer such as Mr. Jordan... how many different artists with differing styles of music have not only asked Mr. Jordan to not only play for them, but been willing to pay to have him play. It’s unfortunate that so many drummers just don’t understand the point of music and art. It isn’t a fukin sport. Whenever someone says something like “Ringo sucked” I wanna slam my head into a wall. Do they truly think that The Beatles would’ve been better if Mike Mangini or Neil Peart was their drummer? It’s the same reason that I’d never choose Mariah Carey’s singing over John Lennon’s or Bob Dylan’s.

Hate his playing - there's something about the way he hits the snare that I just don't like. Also he doesn't swing. I shudder to think how he's going to sound with The Stones

This dude is awesome. Totally focused on the grove instead of speed. Id rather hear this over 32nd notes any day!

A drummers drummer. Master player who is a go to for many world class musical acts. Here he gives a master demonstration and STILL THERE ARE THUMBS DOWN ON THE VIDEO! UNBELIEVABLE

two Paiste 17in trad crashes which aren't even made anymore. He also used a 17in trad crash over a 17in de crash.

playing tight is not the point, but with groove and feel. If you quantize this very recording, it'll sound pretty bad.
