For those speaking on the "huge increase in quality" for SF2, you gotta realize SF1 came out in 1987 and SF2 came out in 1991. This is a solid game for 1987. At the time, people were playing games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and RBI Baseball. Contra hadn't even come out yet for consoles. Hell, a lot of kids were still playing Atari at the time because the NES didn't really make it into most homes until 88-89. By 1991, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and NEO GEO were already out and the tech had vastly improved.

Oh, how I used to love this game as kid when I was growing up, hooking school and going to the arcades or hanging out at the pizza shops to play it. And the graphics, the colors and the quality of the artwork and music and sounds (although the voice wasn't that impressive for its time) and yes even the gameplay were incredible for their time. And believe it or not, people could actually get consistent fireballs, uppercuts and windmill kicks out in the arcades at the time.

There are actually multiple opponents in the game you only have to one hit on then can safely block until the time runs out as long as you have more health then them. This game had voice acting, even for an 80s game! (Although it sounds like it was recorded on a potato)

Nobody remembers the original Street Fighter. Street Fighter 2 is what made it what it is today.

I remember this game in the arcade. It was just horrible. The controllers were loose and unresponsive, making the moves almost impossible. You can see him struggling to do fireballs and upercuts. You were lucky to pull a move off 10% of the time. The sequels were great, but i have no idea why they made street fighter 2.

Characters forgotten in the versions that came later: • Retsu • Geki • Joe • Mike (in Art of Fighting became Micky - who only wore arms) • Lee • Eagle Characters remembered another versions that came later: • Gen • Bird • Adon • Sagat • Ken • Ryu

Eagle is in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper and Geki is very recurring in lore/endings/backgrounds

Mike was not forgotten. Mike is Boxer. In Japan, he became M. Bison (Mike Bison, a very thinly veiled reference to Mike Tyson). The US version had a three-way name swap, so he became Balrog.

Ken is also in this game, you can play with him as player 2. Birdie, Eagle, Adon and Gen have also returned in the SF Alpha games. Geki dies in the storyline but his successor Geki II appears in SF5

Ryu looks and sounds the best in this game because he's represent his japanese heritage unlike the later games where ge looks more like a white boy , smhh

I dunno he seems very Japanese in color
@MrKirk943 жыл бұрын
as a white boy i totally agree. The new streetfighter he has a thick beard and has pale skin. They should have kept his japanese heritage more alive in the latest game

So Ryu, Gen, Adon, & Sagat was the original characters I always thought Gen & Adon was new in Street Fighter 4 and this whole time they were the originals. Wow in the very original street fighter you didn’t have an option of character selection either you got Ryu by default, there was a major difference by Street Fighter 2 😮😮😮

It's amazing how many similarities you can see here to the sequel, there's a lot that got transferred. For the time this came out it was nothing short of amazing and the sequel just blew us all away at the time. I still remember seeing SNES at the store where they were showcasing SF2, I never forget that moment, because it doesn't happen these days anymore.
