***** Just because you push a lighter projo faster does not mean it will stay supersonic longer. By increasing velocity you increase drag, by decreasing projectile weight, you also decrease BC, both of which have immense impact on bullet flight at long ranges. It may apply to certain rounds, but not to all rounds.

***** Are you familiar with the .338 or worked personally with the caliber? I've opted out of the 250's and use the 300 OTM's with great success out to 2k+, I agree, a longer barrel for this specific application is better, simply for velocity purposes, but from first hand experience I wouldn't give up the 300's to use the 250's just to push them faster.

As a trained DMR with a tricked-out M21 ( M-14 variant), my best shots hover around the 1000 meter line with a 7X20 power Mil-dot scope on average, my preferred magnification is 14 power, and I shoot better when I'm "feeling" my dope adjustments after the initial range and windage calculations. Practice, practice, practice. 2000 meter shots are nice to watch, gives me some inspiration. Of course, I don't have the luxury of picking optimal environmental factors, I almost always have to factor in uphill/downhill shots, elevation, temperature, multiple crosswinds, coriolis, weather; nature's always messing with me so I've turned into quite the seat of my pants shooter. My rifle is not as accurate as that .338 Lapua rig, so it sometimes amazes me that it can perform as well as it has sometimes. Love it.

Impressive. Great shooting. Ideally you hit your intended target with the first shot. Especially in a real world scenario with a human target...but that's tough and a lot of times luck...even at these ridiculous distances. Would have been nice to see him hit it with the second round...but we'll chalk that up to the wind. It became evident that the wind was gusting up after that miss that was very wide right. All in all very impressive. Those accuracy international rifles have always been a cut above the rest in my opinion...this footage is a perfect example of why. If the shooter does his part those rifles will always do there's. Thanks for the great footage LV!

not a single word on Coriolis effects for that long distance shoot ? isn't it as important as wind and other parameters for such long shoot ?
@EnkeiTenjin6 жыл бұрын
Because they weren't crunching numbers at unknown distances. Once you know the distance, dial and/or hold for that range based on your dope. Once you spot your miss, adjust accordingly. The key factor here is spotting that miss... This nullifies the need to care for Coriolis effect. Superfluous calculation. However, when engaging a target at 2000m, to aid is first shot hits, Coriolis should be considered. This was just in a different setting and it wasn't a big deal to miss 1st shot anyway.
@cardiffpicker16 жыл бұрын
Not really as the Coriolis and Eötvös effect depending on direction of shot are a constant where as wind ,air pressure,humidity can vary greatly offer 2000m so become much greater issues .
@deeremeyer17495 жыл бұрын
@@EnkeiTenjin Doesn't "consideration" of the mythical Coriolis effect depend on which "direction" you're shooting? If "Coriolis effect" is due to rotation of the Earth, it should only be a factor when shooting perpendicular to the Earth's rotation. Meaning shooting North to South or vice versa. Not East to West or vice versa. Correct? And where are the "correction" formulas for "Coriolis effect"? You do know that the supposed "evidence" for "Coriolis effect" - water swirling arpund drains in "opposite" directions in the Northern and Southern hemispheres - is complete bullshit, right? As well it should be since the Earth still rotates "west to east" in BOTH HEMISPHERES. And that "artillery" ballistics and correction for "Corolis effect" AND it's small arms "co-myth" called "spin drift" are factors for "artillery" at "long range" only because of the projectiles being "iron" shells filled with LESS DENSE "explosives" and therefore "hollow" compared to "copper" jacketed lead- and/or steel-cored small-arms bullets which have maximum density at their "cores" and which are not "hollow" and which fly only at "low level" in parabolas while "artillery" shells exit the "troposphere" and fly in or closer to actual "arcs" and can land "vertically" rather "horizontally" and in the case of naval "artillery" where guns on one ship fire at another ship both the gun and the target are always "moving", right? And that as up to 2700-lb. "iron" projectiles fired from large "iron" guns and "vehicles" over "land" or "sea" the "shells" themselves are influenced by the Earth's magnetic fields which like ocean currents or wind are constantly variable AND are affected by "weather" just like ocean water and atmospheric air currents. So that ultimately "artillery" and the forces that affect it are not automatically comparable and applicable and measurable and existential for "long range" or "extreme long range" shooting on dry land with non-ferrous projectiles fired from and to "unmoving" fixed positions? That's REALITY and it's why "Coriolis effect" and "spin-drift" MIGHT affect "artillery" including tank main guns or mortars at similar distances to what are shot in "ELR" shooting but are COMPLETE BULLSHIT FOR "SMALL-BORE" RIFLES FIRING LIGHTWEIGHT, NON-FERROUS JACKETED OR "SOLID" BULLETS AT "SIMILAR" VELOCITIES TO "ARTILLERY" ACCELERATING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF TIMES MORE "MASS" TO SIMILAR SPEEDS IN A SIMILAR TIME-FRAME IN ORDER TO "STABILIZE" RELATIVELY "HOLLOW" PROJECTILES. SO-CALLED "ELR" SHOOTERS BY AND LARGE ARE BALLISTICALLY CLUELESS TO BEGIN WITH OR THEY WOULDN'T BE SO DEDICATED TO "SMALL-BORE" RIFLES AND WOULDN'T BE STUPID ENOUGH TO BELIEVE A ".50 BMG" CARTRIDGE/BULLET WITH A "B.C." IN EXCESS OF "1.000" AND A MUZZLE ENERGY OF 14,000+ LB.-FT. IS SOMEHOW "INFERIOR" TO A "SMALL-BORE" SUB-.50-CALIBER CARTRIDGE/BULLET WITH A "B.C." WELL BELOW "1.000" AND WELL UNDER HALF AS MUCH MUZZLE ENERGY. IF "B.C." IS A MEASURE OF "ENERGY EFFICIENCY", WHICH IT IS, AND "MORE IS BETTER" , WHICH IT IS, AND ONE BULLET WITH A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER B.C. ALSO HAS AT LEAST DOUBLE THE ENERGY, ITS GOING TO FLY ONE FUCK OF A LOT "FARTHER" AND "FLATTER" BECAUSE "B.C." IS ONLY "MEASURED" FOR "ROUNDS" BY TEST-FIRING THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. A BULLET HAS A "B.C." OF "ZERO" SITTING IN A BOX. AND THE B.C. "FORMULA" WAS DEVELOPED USING THE BIGGEST, BADDEST "COMMERCIAL" CARTRIDGE AND "ROUNDS" THE "BALLISTICIANS" COULD GET THEIR HANDS ON. .50 BMG. But let the SMALL-BORE WANNABE "SNIPERS" JACK AROUND WITH THEIR LITTLE "HUNTING RIFLES" TRYING TO GET INFERIOR, LIGHTWEIGHT, UNDERPOWERED BULLETS AND CARTRIDGES WITH WAY SUB-1.000 B.C.S AND LESS THAN HALF "LOW PRESSURE" .50 BMG ENERGY TO FLY AS FAR AND FAST AND "STABLE" AS .50 BMG. JUST LEAVES MORE NEW AND ONCE-FIRED AND SURPLUS AND PULLDOWN BULLETS AND CASES AND POWDER AND PRIMERS FOR THE SMART "ELR" SHOOTERS SO WE CAN KEEP LOADING "PRACTICE" AMMO FOR $1-$1.50 PER ROUND.

Does the suppressor have any influence on shell velocity, range or precision?
@jcfrompoly9 жыл бұрын
ironheadfm A suppressor in theory reduces the noise of the rifle firing by dissipating some the gases that escape with the projectile, reducing the speed of the bullet to a subsonic velocity (or with a rifle as powerful as this .338 Lapua Magnum AX338, as close to subsonic as the suppressor on it can achieve XD). So yes, it slows the shell velocity. This also directly translates to a noticeable decrease in the effective range of the weapon, and the shooter having to hold higher than he normally would to hit a target at long range than a weapon with no suppressor to account for the increase in bullet drop. Finally, a reduced bullet velocity will mean that it takes a longer time for the projectile to reach the target, which in turn translates to a higher margin for error when engaging a target with a suppressed weapon, due to the delay. So yes, precision is affected. Significantly. Hope this helps, and sorry for my long-windednessXD

@Len_M.9 жыл бұрын
A suppressor does not slow a round down to subsonic speed, that is asinine. You have to fire subsonic rounds if you want the full effect of a suppressor otherwise they are still going to crack when they break the sound barrier. In the vid you can hear him say the round they were using was going transonic at 1900m, meaning dropping under the speed of sound.

How does adjusting the scope change the direction of the bullet? I don't get it. Someone please educate me
@Nucl3arDude9 жыл бұрын
Moe Joe It allows hit to adjust his point of aim, essentially, as it gets out further, the front of the scope can dip so that when he aims on a target at that range, he's actually pointing the barrel up in a parabolic arc. Left and right similarly to compensate for windage, Coriolis etc. He also had to actually hold his point of aim off target at the end because the optic wouldn't adjust far enough. That's why many optics have mildots as well to allow you to eyeball the point of aim adjustment.
@heynando10 жыл бұрын
what if you used a longer barrel? like twice the size, would it be easier to hit a 2km shot or the result would be the same?
@SHLowlight10 жыл бұрын
The length of the barrel was not the issue, it was a case of MV it was slow for that bullet. Plus we had no dope prior to these shots. We zeroed the gun at 100 and went straight to 1 mile with nothing tried in-between, it can be done easier but takes a lot more time and effort beforehand.
@ValueofLiberty10 жыл бұрын
SHLowlight It's nice to see what reality is as far as shooting targets at extreme range like this. I'd also like to see what you guys can do at these ranges with a gun and ammo combo that you are already familiar with and have dope for.
@unitedgray10 жыл бұрын
The ideal barrel length ensures that all the powder is burnt, and the maximum velocity is reached. If the barrel is longer than that, you won't see any appreciable differences, and in fact you may see a decrease in velocity and/or accuracy.

a lot of us train with gloves on and its important when shooting that you're doing the things you always do. also some gloves like these are set so your trigger finger pad will feel its in the same place every time and will grip the trigger blade nicely causing a good clean trigger break. some people don't like using gloves which is perfectly fine but for those who do use them it adds to the muscle memory of always using them. personal preference but if its cold out then it keep the feeling in the fingers so they don't go numb

Thanks Danny, as a father I'm just thankful the little girl was ok physically, she will have some mental demons to deal with, but the tragedy could have been much worse...thank God it wasn't 2 lives lost.

Why I love AI rifles ? because they are the best ! Why I have a AX 308 ? because it's the best 308 rifle !! I love Accuracy International rifles !!

+François Le Français Et que fais tu d'une PGM UR ? C'est quand même aussi bien !
@AutoPassion789 жыл бұрын
Michael Anonymous oui avec l’esthétique et la modularité en moins.
@michaelanonymous74339 жыл бұрын

why is it when it comes to sniping,americans like to use the metric system but when it comes to everything else americans like to screw with us and use the imperial system?
@biggest237 жыл бұрын
Because they'll be killing non Americans, who always locate themselves at metric distances away from their enemies. If there's another American civil war however, they'll have to revert to imperial as everyone will invariably be using it in establishing their relative positions from each other.
