Vicy 3's gameplay doesn't lend itself well to showcases like this. The real allure of the series is the management and play of populations' social class, political agendas, etc. and development, trade, diplomacy, and war between nations. I'd recommend trying it out for free to see if it appeals to you. It really is hit or miss, but if you're like me, it really hits. The progress in this last patch is pleasantly surprising as well.

I agree that it shouldn’t be done that way but it’s still major successes. The games do work with no dlc especially in CK3 they add major updates with each dlc, I’m not familiar enough with the other games to know if they did that but I know Vicy 3 gets a similar treatment.

@@whyguy12well there's the issue youre out of your depth if youve only played the 2 biggest offenders. Paradox is much larger now than it was when it made vic 2 or ck2 and yet theyve left out features that were in those games. Even the dlc is at times re releasing old dlcs so it becomes less that theyre supporting the game and more that they pre plan cutting content to repack as dlc. Plus its been multiple years and things people from those previous games havent been addressed or are sold to them in dlc that cost almost the same as the game which was never the case for other games. But of course newcomers only know this method so they think its normal and are grateful for slop.

Also most of the dlcs just cost around 10-15 bucks so it shouldn't be a huge problem as even with 3 or 4 expansions per year round that cost upto around 50-60 bucks per year and they also they a quite nice feature of monthly subscription, allowing you to buy the whole game within a span of a year. At this point I think it's just pure hate for the sake of hating

I tried it, and I didn't like it. I'm a rather seasoned Paradox player and Victoria 2 is one of my favourite games (although it definitely shows its age unfortunately). This is not a proper sequel to the Victoria series. It should be released as an overwhelmingly economy-centric spin-off game set in the Victorian era. It's more a framework for an economic system than a game, and it fails to balance the core areas of a grand strategy Victoria game, namely economy, politics, diplomacy and warfare.

Just imagine what the game would be if devs were combined hoi warfare with vic production chains, resources management and hybrid trade wars

Rework the diplomatic part please, the lack of great wars, supranational blocs, dismantling empires, entrances on major wars and negotiation for involvements mid war (call to war mechanics for concessions) lacks alot, it would benefit alot balkan nations on the weakenment of the ottomans.

Vic 3 is great when you're playing as any major nations. Then it gets boring, so you start to play minor nations and colonies with a goal of freeing your little shithole from the shackles of servitude. Even with less, its fun for a while. Then rng fucks you and lose hours build up because of one pop up.

So it's like a second release. Game still lacaks depth beneeth the cosmetics. Attrition still doesen't make sense (2% everywhere doesen't matter the terrain or logistics, but even that 2% is only applying when you are at war, once war is peaced out and units moves home, it magically suffers 0% attrition). Battle conditions and combat width still doesen't make sense (no way to predict maximum combat width, no terrain modifiers, jsut a flat combat width number which doesen't make any sense. Unit travel time is too fast, which shows that they still ignore geography or any kind of logistics. And the naval combat is still bad, only difference is that naval landings are not broken, but just simply mid. Ships still don't exist. Try it but don't buy it, the game isn't ready. Or if it is then the combat system is simply bad.

The Combat System still is shit. You almost never get what's going on. For example I just lost a war against peru and brasil, whilst having 90%of both their countries under my control (they didn't have any of my land) just because I lost units. Why? Don't ask me.....

They are slowly reverting some of those decisions (now they have "little dudes on the map" again for example) but at this rate it's gonna take at least a couple of years before I consider playing it.

@@WuCSquad have you tried Vicky 3. I’ve invested 800 hrs on Vicky 2 and almost 700 on Vicky 3 now. I’d say the economic system is way more sophisticated than its predecessor. I find in Vicky 2 no matter what country you play, you just turn into Laissez Faire economic model, and there would be resources that a country doesn’t have to just come out of thin air! I say give it a try since it free anyway, especially now when they improved the economy part of the game.

Games have a near universal tenancy to normalize body counts without penalties or moral ramifications. There are exceptions, but the emphasis tends to be about buffing and hyper-efficiencies learning how to grease the game mechanics, not gaining insights and empathy into a historic setting and dynamism. But the POTENTIAL for games to do that is huge. But possibly hard to monetize.
