In Germany we recommend at least 25 cm (around 9,8 inches) for dwarf Hamsters and 30 cm (around 11,8 inches) for syrian Hamsters. The more the better of course.

You are actually my inspiration when it comes to hamsters! We unfortunately don't have much space for a big cage for our boy, but I am trying to make him as happy as possible. Also my mom doesn't know much about hamsters and she does a lot of thing kinda wrong.. she always cleans out the whole cage, which is stressful for my hamster plus she doesn't give him much bedding.. I am trying to tell her how to do it, but she won't listen... when i grow up, i will definitely continue with hamster care, and I will do it better. Also, do you maybe have some tips for homemade enrichment for hamsters that doesn't take up much space? It's really hard for me to find something, since the pet shops around me don't have anything good...

Cats: We set things sometimes in the oven to defrost. Microwave for when I make Hubby a plate and he's not at the table yet. Or it all goes back in the fridge. We had to buy baby slide locks for some cabinet doors too. I dont think they ever stop doing things, like climb curtains... It just goes in rotation of things they do. LOL

Sadly no, my siblings are a little young so i sadly don't think a scared cat that has been treated badly or been left by their owners would fit in our family, but i would love to rescue in the future🥰

A rescue is a great place to get a cat! Kittens in rescues are just like any other kitten and their adoption fee usually includes all vaccinations and spay & neuter ☺️ and if you're interested in an older cat it's always a great idea to at least go and look at the different personalities, volunteers can be very helpful in showing you which cat might suit your family best as not every cat is scared or has trauma. When it comes to entertainment having a variety of toys, scratching posts, cat trees in windows can all be great. Food puzzle toys can also be very helpful in keeping a cat busy.

My hybrid is also coming out more during the day like Nickel, she is 2+ years old, maybe that's what it is? Is he still burrowing? Mine does this weird thing where instead of drinking normally from the bowl she "chews" the edge for MINUTES! I know because it makes a cling cling sound so I always go check her when I hear it. No idea why she doesn't just lick the water normally (it is accessible)

Happy New Year! Nickel has honestly always come out during the day more! Many have found their dwarfs tend to be more likely to come out a couple times a day, unlike many Syrians who can be pretty strict in staying in their nest all day, haha. Yup, his nest is in one of his many burrows under the sand bath and wheel!

Hi Tori! I just had a quick question. I just got my hamster several days ago. I’m very worried because every time I refill her water or sprinkle feed her, everything is almost completely un toutched. I have seen her a couple of times running on her wheel, burrowing, and drinking but for the past two days I haven’t seen her once and her enclosure looks the exact same, spotless. I’m worried about her but she’s so new that I don’t want to look for her in case she’s fine as I could stress her out. What do you suggest I do? 😢❤

Being a new hamster she may still be adjusting! ❤️ Many of my new hamsters often won't devour everything right away. Sometimes at first I'll also opt for using a food dish just until I know they're at least hoarding some of the food provided.

My hammy is doing great cause i learned so much from you 🥰 There’s only one thing that i wonder about is she never had a sleeping schedule actually she changes it every 2-3 weeks from waking up in the early morning hours to waking up shortly after sunset she seems to have those two schedules and switching between them 😊 Is that something to worry about or is that just her doing her thing?

I'm glad she's doing good! I think if that's something she's always done I wouldn't worry too much, humans too can switch up their sleep schedules sometimes! As long as she is active as she is normally I would say it's okay ☺️

Hi Victoria, I recently got my first ever hamster and currently I’m building a hamster cage using untreated finger pine wood which I’ll later coated with beeswax in the living area to minimize odors and ensure safe breathing for my hamster. Does this setup sound safe for her? Or is it bad for her health?

@ Thing is that since I live in Chile, there’s literally no good wood to use so I though of using beeswax to reduce the wood odor and for extra protection, acrylic for the base and back panel of the cage to make sure my hamster is healthy for the following years.

Sprays is a food source, the Hamster can forage this way like they would do in the wild. It's also great for hiding, espacily New hamsters that don't feel safe when the human is around will feel safer if the enclosure is cluttered with Sprays.

I am considering getting another hamster. A while ago, I (finally) finished grieving my first hamster. Now I really want one again. There are different types of poppy's and the seeds don't actually contain opiates which is where the confusion might come from. Mexican poppys are indeed toxic whereas common poppys are not. Of course, it is completely up to the owner in regards to whether or not they'd like to offer poppys.

Happy new year to you as well. The high standards you set for yourself regarding your videos doesn't go unnoticed. I'm sure there are many viewers who appreciate the care you take when setting up the lighting, cam angles and high quality audio recording as well as the careful choice of music, sound effects, meticulous post processing, cutting and the creative and adorable tiny lines of text 🐹 Even the people who are not consciously aware of all the care and effort you put into your videos will probably still subconsciously notice. It makes for a wholesome and enjoyable watching experience. I think being able to create such high quality longer form content is rare and valuable. So I hope you find a way to keep it up without burning yourself out over it. Maybe it is ok to adopt a slow and more flexible release schedule and just give yourself the time you need 😊

Hey are bin cages safe for hamsters as long as they are big enough?

They aren't necessarily unsafe for them. Bin cages are great for someone who has a hamster currently in a small enclosure and is looking for a cheap, quick way to upgrade to something temporarily while they save up for a proper sized enclosure. The issue most people have with them is that most people cannot find bin cages above 800 SQ inches of floorspace, though if you can find one that's above that size and tall enough for proper bedding depth, there really is no issue.

I absolutely love the connections you build with your rescue hams. I currently only have one enclosure that I house my ethically-bred Syrian in but I would love to build or acquire a second enclosure to possibly adopt in the future. Seeing you give these hams a second chance at a good life is very inspiring. I worry about the heartbreak of their unknown time left due to being adopted but it seems like it's totally worth it to know you're giving them a good end of life at the very least. What is something that you struggle with/would give advice on for adopting/rescuing for someone like me who primarily has experience with ethical breeding when getting hams?

Thank you! ❤️ It can be heartbreaking with the unknown of their lifespan, but it's worth it because they deserve the best rest of their lives. If you are used to ethically bred hamsters who have been handled once their eyes are open I think it's worth it to keep in mind some hams really are not used to being handled at all and may take a lot longer to warm up to you, of course you could end up with a hamster like Nickel who is super friendly! and of course, some hamsters when adopted may have some trauma from their previous home that may take a bit to work through.

I’m thinking on a dwarf, plus Don’t ever bring yourself down every time you post them so happy.❤ also if I do get a hamster, what spray should I get? Sry this is so much but do u nowhere the first owner got Nickle probably from PetSmart, right one last thing can you do a new like hamster kids set up a nickel set up or if you do a new one I’m so so sorry this is so much for you to read. That's so exciting, which NiteAngel enclosure and size did you go with? That may help you decide what species to go with better. As for sprays it really depends on the hamster itself as they all have different preferences but some popular choices are often flax, oat, wheat, different millets and sorghum ☺️ I'm not sure where Nickel's past owners got him from.
