Im 33 and just got my first hamster recently (I've had gerbils, rats, and mice in the past but not hamsters). My teenage daughter's friend was rehoming hers after 2 months of having him. I was on the fence (I had zero plans of adding a pet) until I saw him... He was in a 10 gallon tank without a lid, with one hide, maybe an inch of bedding, no chews, no food debris in the soiled bedding, a 4 inch wheel (he's a golden Syrian)... He was never given a name either 🫤 I immediately said yes and got his enclosure and supplies ready in a day and picked him up. He's now my little guy; I named him Rupert. (Like from Family Guy lol) He loves to be talked to, he is so curious, and likes to come out around 10-11. He's incredibly interactive and loves to burrow in his now nice deep bedding with hidden hides and tunnels, and run on his new big wheel ☺️ he also has enjoyed a small sample of fresh basil, thyme, almonds, cucumber, hard boil egg, and freeze dried pear. I'm slightly nocturnal thanks to health issues so him and I will have plenty of time together 😂 I think he's around 4 months old so I'm hoping hes around for a while. I am also picking up a DJ Dwarf in a few days. I have named him after Pascal from Rapunzel. (Sidekick names from cartoons is evidently my theme here 😂) I'm a happy hammy mom ❤ They are definitely an underrated little buddy to have...

i also prefer dwarf hammies, i love them all but my hybrid dwarf is the tamest hamster i have ever owned like ive owned multiple syrians and none of them really like being held/interacted with. but my hybrid hammy will run up to me and sit in my hand (or on my foot when she's in her playpen) all day 😂 i just find it funny because i remember when i got her i was told i wouldnt be able to interact with her or hold her because she wouldnt like being held and she would be too fast and i was told to get a syrian because it would be calmer and would love all the attention yet my syrian hamsters try and leap out of my hand whenever they choose to come out 🤣

I had Syrians my whole life; but everything changed when I rescued my first Robo. The complete oposite of a Syrian personality wise. Fell in love with them and after he passed I rescued another. I am currently owned by 1 Syrian and 1 Robo, they couldn't be any more different from eachother. My Syrian girl Hazel is like a puppy; begging to come out and eat food with me. But my Robo is very much "leave me alone" and appart from maybe allowing me to pet him in his enclosure while he eats, he would much rather be zooming around and wheeling. I absolutely love watching Robos, they are so funny and interesting but so freaking cute too. I don't mind having a mostly hands off Robo because I feel like spending the time to gain their trust is really rewarding.

I've had Syrians all my life on & off, the last few have all been rescues...after my last one passed away last week, I saw a local lady was wanting to give one away, she had a tenant who had moved & left a hamster behind...I said i'd take it, stupidly never thought to ask which species it was, so today I;ve become the proud owner of a winter white for the 1st time...I think! No idea of age or sex yet, but they're already super happy with a big cage, they arrived in a tiny one! I'm calling him a he so far, until i can get close enough to tell, I wont try to pick him up for a few days but he was immediately happy to let me hand feed him, & stroke his head at the same time...he's so soft!! So I'll do a bit more research over the weekend, find out what I can & watch some more of your, always excellent videos!

In the past, I had a male Syrian hamster, Speedy. After he passed, I had a female Syrian hamster that I named Dalia. She was really sweet. My past dwarf hamsters were Chipper, Ruby, and Petunia. Now, I have 4 dwarf boys: Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp. I adopted the 4 boys from the shelter. Two sets of brothers. I was told that they were bonded and could co-exist in the same habitat. So I placed them in one large enclosure, and I kept my eye on them. Initially, it was adorable seeing all 4 together. They looked like toddlers in a playground. However, I ended up separating them as I noticed fights, nothing major, but it was worrisome enough to separate them. So now, each have their own enclosures. I also knew that separating them would be a possibility, so I was prepared.

Hi Victoria, I don't know if you will see this, but I need your help. So I just got a hamster and bought EVERYTHING for him, and my mom said in order to have the hamster I need to keep my room clean (I'm 13 by the way.) , which I do but she says it looks horrible. Also, I have a brother who is two years older than me, and knows nothing about hamsters but loves mine. That's okay, if he knows how to pick him up and be gentle with him, but he is SO ROUGH with him. Today I saw him up so I took the lid off my enclosure to say hi. My brother saw me open the lid and came in there while he was in his sand bath and snatched him out of his sand bath! Since he wasn't holding him right, he jumped out of his hands and almost fell to the ground but he caught him (it's still not okay though). So I was already mad, so I yelled at him, and my mom says I don't even deserve a hamster! Oh, I'm not done yet, when I told him to put him back he tossed him back into the enclosure! I'm a senstive person when It comes to my animals, like I'll cry when my fish die (don't worry I got a ten gallon tank for my betta fish), so I was holding back tears at this point, and all my brother said was "He's fine! It's a soft landing!" But I know that was probably so stressful for him. PLEASE HELP PLEASE :(

I have just been offered a female syrian hamster by a woman on facebook, and I'm going to be picking her up in less than two weeks! Unfortunately I only have a 120x50x60cm enclosure instead of the commonly accepted 120x60x60cm minimum, but I also have a playpen and enrichment available, so hopefully it won't be an issue and she will be able to live a stress-free life. If she will not be satisfied with what I can offer, rehoming her through the Hungarian Hamster Rescue will still be a last option, though they still have the 80x50cm minimum for syrians and 60x50cm minimum for dwarves, I think they would be okay with adopting out a hamster only on my terms, which would be an enclosure at least 120x60x60. I have been watching your videos for a few years now and you definitely helped me with my first hamster, thanks to your informative content I already had a proper setup before taking him in from a facebook marketplace ad. I am very thankful for your videos, they are so easy to understand with the way you phrase things and even illustrate your points using high quality videos and pictures. Sending love from Hungary!❤

DON’T BUY PETSTORE SYRIAN HAMSTER FOOD ! If you have any agricultural stores near you like Peavey Mart, UFA, etc. (in Canada) you can buy a 20lbs bag of chicken scratch feed (a whole grain mix of barley, corn, wheat, oats) for $20 !! And then add in the other essentials like mealworms and legumes and fresh vegetables . And they also sell 20lbs bags of rabbit feed for $20 too if anyone is interested in saving LOTS of money! Your welcome 😁
