How Do I Get a Parakeet, Conure, or Other Parrots To Not Hate Me

Parakeets, Conures, and Parrots in general sometimes come across like they hate you. In this video, we are going to talk about why parrots seem to "hate" you and ways to fix this.

My Indian ringneck is a rescue that we’ve had for the past 11 months. She still bites, doesn’t want our hands anywhere near her, won’t participate in ANY training (like zero...), squawks loudly while we are talking, pins her eyes and growls, is super cage aggressive, etc. I could honestly go on and on 😭 I’m doing my best to provide a great life for her - giving her a room to herself, a big cage with plenty of toys, an excellent diet, and music playing everyday. But I do wish we could coexist more easily... Her cage is open everyday but she won’t come out, I sit in the room with her often but she screams the entire time, I can’t easily clean her cage, it’s just a lot. I’m at a complete loss. I love her SO MUCH and want the best life for her, but this will certainly be a challenging lifestyle considering she has the potential to live another 20+ years. I don’t care if she never wants to be cuddled, kissed, petted, etc. I can let go of that dream. I just want her to accept me as part of her daily life 💔 I know some people say it takes years with rescues but I’m beginning to think it’ll never happen for us.

@@VictoriaRyann remember I told you I was getting a Quaker I got one 🤣🤣🤣 o got it at 3 months old know its 4 and we are getting along, but I have in mind what you said in a video about them and so I started touching everything in its cage so that it can use to me putting my hand in side of it on my goodness I love this bird we named it Emerald because we don't know if it's a girl or boy , so get ready to help me teach us lol you have a lovely family thank you for you dedication with not only with our babies but for the many moms and dads as well ❤❤❤

I agree w/you on the cons in getting a rescue. As to why I get babys. You just don't know what problems your getting, plus, you could be getting some medical issues. I'm currently getting a weaned male, New Guinea Eclectus this week. He's 14 weeks old & I'm able to train him my way. And, in 8 weeks I'll be getting a weaned Blue Quaker. I've got to have another Quaker. I love Quakers. I've been w/out birds for several years because of my work. Now that I'm retired I want my bird's again. I really love birds, their personalities are very different from each other. I'm excited again to have my baby's.

I rescued all my parrots but two. But they were violent abuse cases, so I allowed the parrots to live their lives as peacefully as possible. Didn't push training on these sweet souls.

What about an adopted bird that hates you? She is not afraid. Won’t eat treats( takes them and throws them). She does want me to sit in the chair next to her cage and will come down the side of her door, which is inches away from me. She will offer her head to me with crest up but will twist and bite as soon as I touch. 😔

My daughter just bought a green cheek from PetSmart and she says he's soooo mean she says she walks by the cage and he lunges at her with mouth open😞she's not sure what to do any ideas?

It honestly takes a lot of patience and time. Just try sitting next to the cage while reading or playing on your phone without even paying attention to the bird. Then work up to offering treats through the cage. Eventually the bird will come around.

My nicky is right ;) also paula, many times birds at petsmart aren't handled much and the only human interaction they get is people walking by or sticking there fingers in the cage which can result in a negative experience for the birds. This isn't always the case as I have met some bird lovers who take the time to work with them at the store. However with your daughter's situation with her bird this is what it sounds like has happened. I recommend what nic said letting the bird come out of the cage on his own and exploring a little bit with plenty of treats around. The main thing is making sure this bird associates positive times with your daughter and not scared and uncertainty with her. It can be overwhelming but you both will do great!!

I always recommend to hand feed your bird since baby. That makes things so much easier. You’ll have 99 % of the battle won.

No, baby birds can get killed by crop burn, crop stretch, asperating, and they're SO DIFFICULT to hand feed and raise. They won't trust YOU when they are a baby, they learn to trust people in general, not one person. ONLY EXPERIENCED PEOPLE SHOULD HAND FEED!
