Some quick info on Clyde that I may have missed in the video: -He originally had a Goffin's Cockatoo companion named Bonnie. Both escaped their cage and unfortunately, Bonnie has not been found. -Clyde is around 30 yrs old -We think he was originally a wild-caught bird one of the reasonings is due to the band around his foot is quite different from parrots bred in captivity. My budgie had the same anxiety attacks.... but now she is ok we just worked thru it somehow. You will just need to make him sure that the space he lives ih is completely safe. BUT that may lead to other issues along the way because this step can sometimes not get along with taming... I feel that its impossible to explain it like this. You will see yourself.

Great video! I've been working with a rescue cockatiel for 11 and a half weeks myself and there are so many hurdles to cross. It was the best feeling in the world though, when he first stepped up on my finger with no hissing, lunging, or biting. I can also now bathe him with a spray bottle. For the first time ever a few days ago he let me touch the back of his neck for a little bit with 1 finger (weird little guy was cool with me if I used my nose though lol, it was cute, but hurts my back). I don't know what the hell his previous owner did to him for 6 years, but when a parrot gets that aggressive to hands (and spray bottles), you know it couldn't of been a good time. It really does take someone with a lot of heart to work with abused parrots. I am still debating if I want to get another rescue to work with, or my own baby blue Quaker.

I had 3 family members not wanting to communicate with EACHOTHER. I been researching cockatoos for about a year. I decided To take on the responsibility on everything that takes to take care of him . I adopted my goffin and he has been showing so much love to them and helped them to be social in just a week. He did come from a good home and that’s rare when adopting but I’m so thankful Please if u as a parent want a parrot for your teen understand that you will be taking care of him the majority of the time. I was a little disappointed at first that I wouldn't get to hear Clyde's entire back story, but seeing that he has his own fanclub, maybe you had to be careful. I can guess part of it anyway. My guess is that he was a victim of neglect (if not worse) at some point. It seems like you have made great progress with him in a short amount of time. With more time and patience, you may eliminate most of his issues. I am rooting for Clyde and for you. I am sure he will be exploring his new home and play area very soon, but if his wings were clipped he will feel off balance for a while. You have a video about why you wouldn't get a quaker again. Do you find the cockatoo easier? Would you get a cockatoo again? Curious, as many people would say that the cockatoo is one of the hardest parrots to care for. (they are a favorite species of mine though and I love your Clyde!)
@VictoriaRyann4 жыл бұрын
Well since Quakers are so finicky and typically one person, one is enough for me due to my lifestyle. Cockatoos would fit mine moreso since they are more apt to get along with multiple family members compared to Quakers. Also since there's always someone at my home and is an active household in general they would be so much more mind stimulating activities here so less likely to encounter the problems that many have with cockatoos. Aside from Clyde's personal issues we are working on, he's easier to care for. A lot of that as well could be my whole family is included with Clyde and interested in him. My Quaker only cares for myself and Yoshi so naturally my kids don't interact with him as much as the other two. Of course thats just my situation though. Thank you so much!!! Clyde is awesome ☺️

You are describing my Lorikeet!!! Ok so here it is, you will go nuts for a whole year trying and trying. If you can bear to do it, I had towel Fiesta, she would shoulder rush, she started showing affection to my fiance, I was soooo pissed!!! I waited for her first hard moult with me. I put her in a towel and started removing her sheeths, I took away the towel and she asked me to continue!!!! It was like a switch flip literally!!! She now let's me hold her on her back, she steps up on my hand not my arm and run!!! You will think he just is not going to be the bird you know he is, just one day he will come round in an instant!!!! I know I get alot of back lash, but I always keep going. I got bit I can't say how many times, each time less and less until it stopped, she started taking treats from my hands, I knew if I could just find my in with her she would melt. Just stay consistent, do not give up!! It takes a long time with these adopted birds. They seem to turn off that human button. You can do this!!!!! Try to mimic the wild toos see if that helps some!!!! He's going to be an amazing bird!!!!

@@McWeasel yeah not good at all. Obviously don't know what your day to day is like so not sure if this will help.. but a friend of mine in my discord actually posted this link you might find interesting lynwoodanimalhospital.ca/covid-19-and-bird-behaviours/ also if you haven't tried this yet you can slowly transition her into becoming less attached to you by having her in a cage in the same room as you train and work with your other birds. Let her see the bond you have with the others and reward her with a treat every time she's behaving. Do this a few times and then let her out with the others but still seperate so there isn't fights. Again reward everytime your other birds are something good then turn to her and reward her calm behavior. You can also towel train with her and have the other birds out flying around and again every time she's calm reward her. Sort of a mix of desensitizing and positive rewarding. Could be she's been hormonal here lately to. Hope that's enough to help out for now....
@McWeasel4 жыл бұрын
@@VictoriaRyann honestly even giving her treats at the moment is tricky because she just wants to flirt rather than take a treat. I won't lie part of me is flattered haha it's not healthy though. If she is in her cage and the others are out she screams and if she is out and they are caged she just wants to get through their respective bars and feast upon their tiny little bird hearts. I will crack on with this advice for a bit and keep you posted, thanks for the advice. X..... Also that link seems really useful, I think I will invest in some blackout curtains, see if I cant give them all a bit more darkness. X

My late grandmother’s umbrella cockatoo would say “welcome home” every single day at about 5:27 pm because that was the time her ex husband got home from work. Even after they divorced and he no longer lived there, the bird would still say it around the same time. They have crazy internal clocks, so I wonder if it’s possible that something traumatic may have happened to Clyde repeatedly at that time and he still panics? I’m not sure where he comes from, but maybe there was something loud that terrorized him with noises, or maybe someone else in the household that would show up around that time, a dog/cat that was let into the room with him about that time, or maybe certain lighting he doesn’t like that happened around the evening. I really hope he’s able to relax more and become more trusting soon!

I am planing to get the cage soon. (A week before I get him so I can get everything set up) I just found each of the items that you mentioned and $70 worth of toys and perches. I'm prepared for a bird that is a birdie butt hole that bites and is sassy and how to get him out of that. I watched like 50 "Don't get a bird" and "why I won't get a bird again" videos and am prepared for the worst. She will occasionally let me pet her for a bit but a minute later is terrified and runs away. Even backs away when I try give food from my hand (unless sunflower seeds which are irresistible). So so sad. Also panic attack at night around 7pm; climbing in circles around cage, ripping at the cage, ripping up toys just super tense and agitated. Cage is open all day, sometimes come out and sits on top of cage but she is very timid. Her wings were clipped by previous owner which I hate so much, she tries to fly and jump off things and falls :( Any tips?

Hey Victoria I have some questions for you. Is there a time you'd be willing to chat with me and answer some questions for me? I just got a baby conure and he is really good so far, I just wouldn't mind talking to somebody about a few things.

They are still in the same room. They all get along now to the point during the day they all hang out together. The only difference is bedtime.

Thanks Ayon appreciate that! I don't have a set up for that way of helping. I personally prefer people going through my Patreon and giving what you can and/or feel necessary to with the different tiers to choose from. No matter what tier you choose, you can message me and I'll help you from there. If you would like to go that route here is my link www.patreon.com/victoriryann?fan_landing=true . The other option is if you're familiar with discord, you can join there and we have some other bird owners that come together and help one another. Here is that link if you want to do it this way discord.gg/KzaDw9K thank you again either way I really appreciate ya! Hugs to you and your gcc :)

Question: first time Quaker owner named kiwi I got him yesterday from a pet shop. He likes to be pet from me my bf and 2 kids. He started eating from my hand today I can touch and pet his belly.. I just can’t for the life of me get him on my finger. I tried treats target training. I can play in his food and tell him to go eat hell eat. He’s great!!!! Just can’t get him to step up I tried pushing gently I tried Millet treats, he’ll stretch his neck out as far as possible not to step up please can u give me advice what to try

Hey girl yeah sounds like hes doing fantastic already like he's moving along quite quickly! Does seem like hes still hesitant with the fingers which is totally normal. What you can try to do is have a small strand of millet in between your index and middle finger, lay your hand on the cage or wherever he feels comfortable walking to, and try to see if he will walk on top of your other fingers laying flat. Trying to get him to walk on top of your flat hand with your pinky closest to him. In hopes he will walk across to get to the index and middle finger where the millet is. This will get him more comfortable and used to your fingers before stepping up on the fingers. When you pet him, you can also try getting him distracted by the petting and then practice having your finger horizontal on his feet. Couple of avenues there to try there hope it helps :) congrats again on yours and the fams new companion :)

Please don’t put them together even though they may seem like best friends a Goffin cockatoo beak is super strong they can hang outside of the cage but please do not put them together but if you are 100% sure that this cockatoo will not hurt Yoshi then go right ahead

Do you still have Popples? You have not talked about him or showed him in your recent videos. Did I miss something?
