I carry a rambler on my keychain and that takes care of everything with my explorer good video

Great video sir. Very well rounded and you touched on several items that most people don’t. I agree with basically everything you said and have been eying the explorer recently. For myself, added regular use on the magnifying glass would be reading fine print on groceries/etc. as well as small print/details on drawings when I’m on job sites. Right now my deluxe tinker is the mainstay VIC in my rotation/EDC but just like the explorer it’s just on the edge of being so bulky that it’s rough to carry in the pocket, even from a suspension clip. While I really like having the small pliers when I need them, I think I’d get more regular use out of the magnifying glass/in-line Phillips. However…. I’ve also been looking at the Hercules, which solves the issue of the ‘too short’ Philips on all of the 91mm models as you pointed out (as it has a short and a long one). But it add so much more bulk and basically needs to be a belt carry. Why are there so many options… I digress, great review and great points made all around! [edit side note] I honestly would love a Explorer without the Knife Blades. It would slim it down just enough and I EDC a traditional (and a modern folder when I’m on a job site) so I never use my VIC blades anyway…

At my age of 70yr old I was wondering if the magnifier was just a gimmick this video answered my question

Is great as my glasses are not enough but with magnifying glass it makes it possible to see anything.

The magnifying glass is useful for working on watches too! I'm sure many EDC people care about their watches and would be able to appreciate that function.

This is great! I have the same red micarta scales on my Explorer. I lucked out, and scored an early 1990’s model on the Bay that was still new-in-box for less than a new one costs. The old magnifying glass is far superior, in my opinion. The newer ones are flimsy, and are only 5-6x vs. the 8x of the grey ones. That is one of the few things I think Victorinox has actually made worse through the years. Great review, though! It is definitely one of their most versatile toolsets.

Ditto Jeremy Blair, very well balanced approach. Much as these old eyes would love the magnifier, because of your video and comments, I'm certain this knife would be too bulky for edc (for me). Thank you!

The only thing that I don't like about the Explorer is the fact that it does not have a saw blade
@davejoe25922 ай бұрын
Exactly! I bought my Explorer over 30 years ago and it was a toss-up between another model that was basically the same but had the saw instead of the magnifying glass. I wanted both but since that wasn't an option, I opted for the magnifying glass. I don't regret that decision but still always wish it had the saw blade as well. I think if it had the saw, it would be the perfect SAK. Well, with the plus scales it would be, as a pin and pen would be great additions too

this one is the best swiss Armey knife besides the champ but xxl champ is to obese for a lite edc knife its a monstrosity of a knife that is to big to carry effectively with out a belt to hold up your pants i do like the hiker camper the climber the hybrid he old ranger that was my boy scout knife

The magnifying glass is also good to start a fire if you are out camping 🏕 I’ve used it for that in the past!!!!
