The most underrated feature of the Venture that puts it above all other fixed blades at the moment IMHO is the curved belly that spans across the whole edge. I have long been waiting for a knife like Fällkniven H1 or PHK that would have a thinner blade. The belly and the significantly dropped point of the blade is exactly what I have been longing for and I was considering a custom knife, because such a knife was not available AFAIK. Most of the knives these days (especially scandi gound) seem to have a long flat part and then steeply curving part near the tip. I don't find that useful at all. The narrowish blade, long belly and drop point are exactly what I want from a knife that I use for skinning large game, processing small game and fish and chopping veggies. Benchmade makes blades with long belly, but they all have either an unnecessary broad blade that makes them clumsy or a sharp tip (extreme case: Meatcrafter). Victorinox hit the nail on the head with this one.

@alexandergutfeldt1144Ай бұрын
I own both and don't really like either 😳! The Garberg just doesn't feel comfortable or well balanced, so I don't use it. That is very subjective! The venture (pro with kit) works great for all camp (kitchen) tasks, but I don't like to use it for heavier wood processing tasks. The toolkit is need for building stuff, but I honestly don't do enough of that to justify schlepping it around. I prefer bringing a short (7-9cm) blade and a little hatchet. Fits my needs better!

This specific Victorinox is in 14C28N, as opposed to the usual 4116, but I do agree there are cheaper options. I’d be a lot more upset if the Venture was 4116, because I think for the cost of a SAK 4116 is fine.
@miketranfaglia3986Ай бұрын
@@Dan12345 Sure, it's an upgrade over the (very) basic 4116, but certainly no super steel at that hefty price point. I guess both of these are produced in high-cost countries, so you're not necessarily expecting to get any bargains out of Switzerland, but that's one thing that's always been such a pleasant surprise about the basic Mora knives. They're cheap, even though they come from Sweden, and they're quite good. Even the Chinese can't make a Mora-style, similar quality knife for less. I guess I should reserve judgement until I've tried these knives myself, but I just doubt I'll ever pay those prices for either.
@Dan12345Ай бұрын
@@miketranfaglia3986 true it’s no super steel. Can you find a better steel in a knife that size for the same price, outside of China? I haven’t been able to. Personally I’m happy with 14C28N and 4116 (in Swiss Army knives). I think if you want edge retention you might be looking at the wrong company. Try Spyderco or Benchmade or even the Buck Pro or Heritage series. I’ve got my Spyderco Enuff 2 in K390, which I’ve used for batoning when backpacking and holds an edge well.

Surely that changes the very nature of the Scandi grind which is always described as having a zero edge. I don't get it. It then becomes a sort of abominated sabre grind? It smacks of Mora becoming disenchanted by the constant flow of complaints about Scandi blades being very difficult to sharpen properly in the field, and offering a simple "fix". But, have they betrayed the fundamental value of Scandi grinds? 11:55 Slicing demo - that was one of the best demos I've ever seen and puts the whole slicing thing into perspective!
