I have to disagree with Ashley's interpretation that this song and video are about Taylor chasing a boy. The lyric is "life is a willow and it bent right to your wind." I interpret that as life leading Taylor to him, not her changing herself in order to be with him. She's not bending to his wind, life is. The whole video kind of seems like Taylor just living her life, and following this string in the meantime, which eventually leads her to her man, similar to the concept of Invisible String. But that's just my interpretation! Love this video!

I agree with you! And it's a reference to invisible string, which is not about chasing a boy either. Life is leading her to him, in a natural way. But a great reaction and it's always fun to hear how others think!

I think you're right, plus there's a natural kind of give and take on both sides necessary for any relationship to work. You see that kind of back and forth in the "movie" that if you follow the golden string, like the yellow brick road in the "wizard of oz," you might eventually find out that you've been in Kansas all along and any of those who love you or whom you love is much closer to you than you might think. Truth or real love is like gold. It neither rusts nor tarnishes, but you can have it if you follow or bend to what it represents, even if the journey that involves giving and taking, where you might have to dive into the water for the hand you can see but can't touch until the end, takes you all the way back to the place you began.

My research and interpretation (it's long) First scene represent the song cardigan In second scene, everything is dark except the gold string, which can mean she found her love when she and her life was in dark place..and how he showed the hope. Also string is representative of song invisible string. Children are representing the song seven. And she is on the display, which she can't escape, and she sees her lover and now she finds a way and meets him in secret. Then she dances around the fire with several others who are like her and searching love...or she is ready to do anything to keep her love close . While everyone else continue, she finds a gold string which ties her to him, and follow it.. Also, she has had lyrics like "and witches like hunting too" and "they're burning all the witches even if you aren't one" She followes and reached home, her safe place to find him there. It started with her in a dark forest and ending with them both finding each other and walking out of the room (which was probably the place where you go to find yourself, hut they have done that already so they don't need that place anymore) in the sun and they lived happily ever after. Also, people are confused about the second last scene, where the lover removes the mask and is in the room next scene What I interpreted is that her lover was dancing around the fire for the same reason as her, the string tied BOTH of them, si he has a story too, he was finding his love too and they both happen to be at same place at sake time and he followed her.
