Bloodrayne is a terrible adaptation. Fun detail: In the scene where Rayne is used as a carnival attraction, one of the cheering extras in the audience forgot to remove his wristwatch, making a giant anachronism. And who was the forgetful extra? Uwe Boll of course. Nothing but quality from the maister of cräp.

You need to know, the rules for the funds (the "Filmförderung") were not changed out of thin air, they were changed because of Uwe Boll's awful movies. Sadly, these funds were originally meant for young filmmakers being able to finance bigger projects. Boll not even made movies that were so bad they made people genuienly angry, he really hurt the young German movie industry. Being associated with those funds is how Boll was able to secure the high class actors he worked with, too, by the way.
@picahudsoniaunflocked5426 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate this context. It's important to acknowledge he's self-serving & Boll's wealth-seeking is hurting genuine artists & muddying his country's artistic output & cinematic identity. Young filmmakers work for nothing for years to get to put out something they made, & he exploits loopholes to syphon resources away from legit directors for crass self-dealing. That'd anger me if my art community was targeted by him too. Some people ruin everything for everyone else.

I just LOVE how you pronounce Uwe. In german, it's kind of a name for a boring, slightly older guy. By replacing the german 'e' with the english 'e', you make it sound like 'Uwi', a term of endearment or pet name. But the one that costs the least creative effort to come up with. Really, you got me giggling all over this meta-pun, even if it isn't indentend in your movies. And I meant to type videos, but the hell, good old Sigmund at work.
@picahudsoniaunflocked5426 Жыл бұрын
Oh...like a German "Hugh"? Your analogy clicks bc the UK & French "Hugh" has a breathy long bit that makes it sound stuffy + older-man in a way North American "Hughs" don't; Americans almost "chew" on it & over-pronounce it, so it sounds nearer to 2-syllables. Languages are cool, that's all.

It is shocking how Boll was able to get some great actors (Ben Kingsley, Til Scweiger, Udo Kier, Christian Slater, Michelle Rodriguez, Jürgen Prochnow, Billy Zane, Michael Madsen etc.) and does NOTHING with them. I can only assume Boll has blackmail materiel on them - or can offer some crazy tax write-off/financial incentive. He probably has a vault of stolen gold.

I remember reading an interview with Uwe Boll in which he almost literally calls several well known actors whores, that would act in anything if you throw the right amount of moolah at them. @Mobferklopfer2 жыл бұрын
@@sebleonard8273 hate to break it to you but he is mainly known for mumbling and playing the brute or the soft tough guy. So no, not reeeaally what you would call a legendary actor though in my honest opinion he is not a bad actor he just got cast into some stereotypes and is now stuck with them. I guess if I'd ask in my peer group the consensus would be that he's not the first who springs to mind when thinking of great german actors however it is nice to have some international representation with him since the german filmindustry is mainly focused on (television)series, sometimes films though they also tend to be aimed at the german market as are the series. Which is also another thing Schweiger became infamous for. There is this really long running crime-series called "Tatort" roughly translating to "crime scene" which due to it´s popularity became kind of a cultural thing where familys would watch it together on sunday evenings when the new episodes aired. Now the thing about Tatort is, that it tends to be more story driven and less action focused so talking about "international" series think of BBCs Sherlock Holmes and not something with exploding cars or boats like you'd see in a Michael Bay film. Anyhow... when it was first announced that there would be a Tatort starring Till Schweiger as a lead detective a lot of people were excited/ intrigued since he is not known for broody, calculating, funny or profound characters which you would expect in the lead role of a Tatort and no one thought they would deeply change the basic structure of a german crime series and make it action-laden. Especially not sth. like the Tatort. German crime series are either tongue-in-cheek funny trying to amuse the audience or try to be intense and get you to speculate together with the investigators who the culprit could be. No one thought they would make an action movie out of it, yet that is exactly what they did. They used a pretty basic hostage situation story with little to no unexpected plot-twists. So yeah, that is Till Schweiger from my POV. I obviously can't speak for every german but I'd guess at least in my friend group you would get a similar opinion.

The Oracle? She's actually Charlie Chaplin's daughter, Geraldine Chaplin, who's had an amazing career too. I had to stop the video & check when I saw her face bc I could not believe he got CHARLIE CHAPLIN'S DAUGHTER to do a scene in his cheese-fest-exploitation flick. Billy Zane --- aka Kate's Mean Rich Fiancé in Titanic --- is Bad Wig Vampire. Billy Zane's another true talent who had to pick up a pay check. I honestly have such mixed feelings about this as someone in an arts community. On one hand I can see the trashy fun & admire the gonzo filmmaking spirit, on the other hand, real artists don't want to have to play sad dress-up for a dude scamming taxpayer arts funds their colleagues need to make their creative output, On the 3rd hand even Billy Zane may have a house mortgage or kids in college & Boll is paying crew + cast for their work, so they get to eat...I just don't know how to feel, I feel all of it lol.

The thing about Uwe Boll is that he clearly hates filmmaking for someone who claims to love it so much. Like, he clearly has nothing but contempt for his crew. He doesn’t want to take the time to get multiple takes. He doesn’t even like working with his actors. He just berates them until the take is complete. That’s why his movies are so stapled together. He gets the script, throws out half of it, then films the second half, only he doesn’t get enough coverage and the sound is awful. So, the poor editor has to try and stitch the film together with whatever is barely usable. That’s why so much of House of the Dead’s story is told through mindless ADR. As a filmmaker, it’s amazing to see.

I honestly don’t remember what exactly the contraband is because it’s hard to pay attention to this movie because it’s so bad but I remember the Captain telling Salish to unload it and then he opens the cooler, pulls off a fake ice and fish top and underneath is the contraband lol.

Very interesting video. I'd like to mention a few things too: Recently Boll's latest movie "Hanau", about the racist attack that happened in Hanau 2020. This movie is a different kind of one. Boll did make many movies based on real events, like "Darfur", "Auschwitz", "Heart of America" and "Max Schmeling". And now this. Of course it was controversial in Germany but he made it. At the end this movie was about 75 minutes long, with a sort of accurate recreation, without many emotions or music. It mostly showed Tobias R., the attacker, talking to someone whom he believes is watching him, makes strange messages, walks to the buildings, kills people and walks out. His victims show more emotions. After over 1 hour of movie, being filmed in his recent home town Mainz (visible by varous signs) he appears as himself, showing the real places in Hanau, talking about it in his typical way. The movie ends with a scroll featuring all victims of racists attacks in Germany from 1990 and 2020. When Uwe Boll had his 50th birthday in 2015 his movies were shown on "Tele5", a German TV station that is known for showing independent movies, B-Movies, trash etc. Their most popular show is the awesome show "SchleFaZ - the worst movies of all times", an MST3K-type show, only with more concentration on the movie. So during his birthday he was asked 50 questions on the street. And it shows that shows that Boll is a guy who, as we say in Germany, didn't fall on his mouth (aka is not shy). Some of his answers are: Worst director ever: Michael Bay Favorite film, except for your own: Apocalypse Now Star Trek or Star Wars: Star Wars Favorite Bollwerk (wordplay between Boll-Werk= a piece made by Boll or Bollwerk=German word for supporting stakes on houses): (after thinking) Rampage Worst Bollwerk: House of the dead Sharknado: The first one was funny. And with Tara Reed (whom he called "worst actress ever" and called her a "stupid B****" in an earlier question) Oh yes: When SchleFaZ premiered in the first season in 2013 Boll released a video thanking the hosts that none of his movies were shown: "That shows, you guys have good taste and my movies are awesome ones." He ended by announcing his new movie "Assault on Wall Street". During his birthday one episode of SchleFaZ began with him saying: "The worst movies of all Times - SchleFaZ. Brought to you by .... me." He also was on a "Mean Tweets"-type show where he called video game producers "poor ridiculous sausages" who "produce shit" and that he was never interested in video games. He also called actors "cheap w***es" who will play any shit if they get money. When someone wrote "I broke the Bloodrayne-DVD after I watched it - for 11 minutes" he replied "Another idiot who played for it. Thank's for the 12,99 (or whatever price he mentioned)"

I could relate to the commentary at the Bloodrayne adaptation. Besides the problems of adapting something much longer and interactive into a short, non-interactable experience, I found that I actually liked quite a few adaptations I didn't know the source material of. The Far Cry movie is a good example actually - it's exactly my kind of garbage humor, so I find it pretty enjoyable. But I also don't really care about it not hitting the tone of Far Cry because I don't play those games. I also actually really liked the Hobbit movies while my father, who's a huge fan of all the Tolkien books, absolutely loathes them - it's the only time I ever saw him (in his 50s back then) blow his top akin to an angry fan online. Most of the time, adaptations like these don't feel as "for the fans" as the word adaptation seemingly often is interpreted as.

His videogame adaptation about Postal is actually very accurate, its just the people who don't play the game that bashed the movie.

In Alone in the Dark, the scene at the 41 minute mark of the video. You can see the actor (who is suppose to be dead), get about half a second before the cut. I was amazed

idk what you're on about, there's nothing like that at the 41 minute mark.

I just clicked on a random video for background noise, but this was too funny. If you haven't already, please do the second HOTD. I remember watching it years ago and it's just as bizzare 🤣New sub!

This was a great watch; hope the KZbin debacle and few detractors don't put a bad taste in your mouth, "long form" videos aren't easy but you've got a knack for it and I'm looking forward to more! That said, Postal notwithstanding, I truly believe Boll has - one - good movie in him, buried somewhere in a video game license nobody needed an adaptation of

I'd love to see you talk about things like the original Death Race 2000, and Deadly Prey "the most violent movie of all time" (heads up, it's not) Maybe Hercules in New York, featuring the Legend that is Arnie.

And yes, in some fantasy universes, just plain water hurts vampires. In Warhammer, running water hurts most vampires, and some very cursed just any water (as far as I'm aware, fresh water and not rain, must be a... splash) in more amount than a bucket can hurt or even stun them.

The worst part of all this are that Uwe Boll has some good and decent movies, not kidding. Like the Rampage trilogy or Stoic, but oh man, the vast majority of his films, specially the ones based on videogames like the ones in the video are soooo bad. In any case, truly a strange guy. Great video!

The guy who played the honourable cab driver who sacrificed his life and job for the paranormal ninja is actually a great actor. He has done a bit of work with Seth Green.

@5:30 they do actually. Captain Kirk and his mate are smuggling "Cuban cigars, among other things" that's why he than states that he would 've escaped the police even without the bribe. That's a plot point 45 minutes into the movie.

@lutzismail787410 ай бұрын
he handpicked the guys he would fight, to have a easy win. He challenged Seanbaby, but after hearing that he was well trained in muay Thai, he opted out. Boll is nothing more than a bully, a terrible director and a destroyer of Game adoptions

Little point about Buffalo Bill, only in the comics did he wipe out the buffalo. In life he was the only person who retained a herd post 1889, and hunted about 18 a day at his peak to feed railroad workers. He wasn't involved in the eradication of the buffalo for skin.

The Witcher is a faithful adaptation? Really?
@Fork12 жыл бұрын
Rayne is actually weak to water in the games (the opening scene has her travel through Louisiana swamps), but it makes no sense as I guess she still needs to drink right?
@Fork12 жыл бұрын
Also, out of the crappy movie, Bloodrayne is perhaps the most profesionally done! It was weird setting it during the 17th century. The game was set during WWII, which the 3rd movie is set.

No comment on the part where Christian Slater 'shoots' the possessed woman as she was about to flank Stephen Dorff? The visual effect of the bullet flies ABOVE her head, and yet she reacts like the shot connected and drops like a sack of potatoes. The effect was CGI, and added in post... I want to think Boll deliberately made that move in the editing room just to mess with the audience. Another thing that gets me is that scene in House of the Dead where the woman leaps up with the shotgun to shoot the axe-throwing zombie. I get the shotgun effect and the slow-mo, but why would she leap into the path of the axe's trajectory. Been a while since I watched HotD, or any Boll movie, but that is probably of the dumbest action fluff I remember. Also, good video. Keep up the good work.

Gotta give it to Uwe, casting Jürgen Prochnow as the captain is actually hilarious. And the gun joke in Far Cry is also objectively hilarious, there's no debate about it.
