This video has been really helpful for me (female Christian gamer). I grew up playing computer games (I am 21 now), and I am really struggling right now. I love the Lord with all of my heart and I want to serve Him always, yet I find that other Christians look down on my hobby (gaming). Outside my family, I only have one other Christian to play with, and he isn't someone I know IRL. I so wish more Christians played video games - while I've been able to be a light to many people here, I feel totally alone. Christians simply don't have any influence here, yet the people that are here are struggling and craving the love of Christ. While some (like me) play for the challenge, many of them play because they are hurting or lonely or have troubled lives in the real world. THESE are the people - the tax collectors/sinners/broken ones that Jesus went out of his way to reach - yet I feel totally alone here as a Christian. Why aren't more Christians here? This is what God has called us to do - to encourage the broken and bring them to the Healer of all things. Because of this, I would encourage other Christians that DO enjoy this hobby to reach out to the broken people around them online, and to those that don't enjoy this hobby - please, show love to those that do. There aren't many of us here, seemingly, and it's so much harder to be a light online than it is to be a light when you are out shopping or golfing or participating in any other hobby.

I am a Christian woman who's been a gamer her whole life. It was a big part of my childhood, some games were like a really good book that you got to play the character. Also I like simple games that tested timing, memory, reaction speed, high scores. It's fun! Just like board games, card games, and creative stories. Now since I became a Christian I don't participate in extremely inappropriate content, just like movies and music. I'm sure there are many Christians that would disagree and condemn such things.. when I think about being in the world but not of it. I don't think that means pulling out all together, segregating ourselves. More like In what ways are we able to enter into any activity... be it Sports, music, gaming, dinner parties, dancing, social media, conversation... and be a light in that, be set apart, different in our speech and behavior that holds to what's true and good. Now there are things that are clearly defined of what we can and can't do in the Bible, then there are some things that have to do with the heart, and should individually be brought before the Lord in willingness to change if he calls you to. However, does that make it the dictation for every brother and sister.. I believe NOT... alcohol consumption is a good example for this. Clearly the Bible teaches drunkenness is a sin, but then other places in the Bible moderation or occasion is supported. For some alcohol is a major temptation and can be easily abused for others they could take it or leave it and it won't cause a stumble in their walk in service to the Lord or others. I think this can apply to many things we are privileged to enjoy and experience in Gods creation. With responsibility and loving obedience to the God we serve.

Hi, I am a gamer and been one pretty much my whole life too, as well as a Christian. Quick background, I was raised catholic but was baptized recently as a Christian and it wasn't until now that this has become such an important matter to me. I have never thought of gaming as a sin, but recently it has been convicting me so much that I bought Resident Evil 2 remake and have not played it, also this is my gaming channel (TheCabin) and going to close it down for the same reason. I have always loved playing Horror games like Silent Hill, Until Dawn, Resident Evil, and many others but never thought of it like a sin till now. God comes first in my life and I pray to him for permission and guidance with everything I do. I wish I could know for sure if it's that maybe he wants for me to stay away from horror, violence or is it all video games(Skyrim, Zelda,Fallout). I know it's all fake and I don't think it has affected my life or its not like I'm addicted to them either, but I guess what I am trying to know for sure if the Holy Spirit is convicting me and trying to tell me to deny myself, pick up my cross and completely summit to my Heavenly Father.

I play App Store games like clash Royale which has no bloodshed but does have killing and wizards and witches.

The parents made this game dedicated to their son. It involves with symbolisms that may reference to some scriptures from the bible. Whats cool about this is that a lot of popular KZbinrs have played this game.

I heard about that game, and, while it is sweet that they did that for their kiddo in response to his untimely death, I am convinced that is not my cup of tea. A far better idea that could reach the lost would be to get the best aspects of the various Warriors types games that Koei Tecmo has made and then make it based upon the various battles of the Old Testament. The game could also have chests that unlock the Holy Scriptures in the various battlefields, which could help augment special attacks, weapons, mounts, armor, and such, and also unlock them as well. I think that the game could be called Shekinah Warriors.

There are some games that are just objectively fun and I think pretty harmless and morally neutral for Christians. Minecraft, Rocketleague, Pinball FX, and even with animated violence Chivalry, Planetside 2, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament, Street Fighter. Then there are games that truly embody great art, storytelling, moral choice, and truly break the mold of video games. I would put Brothers: A tale of 2 sons, Valiant Hearts, This War of Mine. Among the Sleep, Dragon Cancer, and Metro 2033 as consideration for "high art"

Review NBA 2K17 when it releases or any competitive sports game. I believe the game itself isn't inherently sinful, but those that play, especially when it's two players, 1v1, there can be a lot of anger on behalf of the losing party and bring about a lot of pride on behalf of the winning party. The argument that video games prepare a person for war/combat does not hold up. As a Christian with several combat deployments throughout my life as an airborne infantryman, I can confidentiality say that video games, if anything, train a person to be non sensitive to moral issues that Christians should be take into account on today’s modern battle field. It’s no secret that governments have been using stimulation training but that does a poor job preparing soldiers for combat. If a teen or young man wanted to be a better soldier, a great soldier, they should start by disciplining themselves through holy living, exercise, sports, the outdoors, work… Laying on the couch playing video games is counter productive. Be prepared to follow orders but also be counter cultural and be a light amidst the darkness

The thing i appreciated about it the most is that there are consequences to your illegal actions (for the most part), that same thing exists in NMS but to a lesser degree. The sentinels are much easier to flee from in NMS than the police are in GTA5, and the sentinels attack you for breaking rocks, not for real life sinful activities

I am a software dev and have been thinking about building a world for an mmorpg, which is greatly needed since most of them funnel towards witchcraft or some pseudo-religious message; however, there is a large issue with balancing in the game. Do you allow people to play characters such as warlocks, wizards, magicians? or do you exclude that portrayal? Any well made game takes years to build so I trust God will lead, and it will only move forward with his blessing. Moreover, apologetics are highly needed in the current games and there are dark corners in these worlds and franchises where people can receive our message through love and partake in the adoption of the Father. God also uses these games to smash through the walls of communism and offer hope to some seeking escape. Such a mind boggling industry where art meets communication through an endless number of platforms, and as of right now freedom of speech is alive and well. We will see what the coming years bring but no matter what, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, answer unanswered questions, and most of all love those who are lost, alone, and afraid of seeking out truth. Edit: this was very eye-opening in understanding the dynamic between Christ's reign and our interaction within this life. As always, great content.

Wow I'm late to this party. Nearly all games can be used in a way for the Lord. Some are to be seen more metaphoricle. Others are for visual learners to show why doing bad things is wrong. Others (one of my favorites and an older one, Tomba 2) can be used to help give a little light to the hopeless that long for exploration helping others and/or just adventure. I'm not very far in the Bible as of this point, however I always understood there's more after life ends and that there is a right and wrong. I would say the issue on games is people playing them not being able to set it aside to help somebody with something.

hmmmm I always felt the majority of Christians were just sorely behind the times. Most keenly in video games. Video games are just a thing like anything else. I don't think games need to be ALL GOD ALL THE TIME, even if made by Christians. Like you've seen some of the stranger efforts from people making a sermon in video game form. I like the point you make about isolationism. Not in the sense of making sure people know we're Christians but just going "Eh, let's not get involved at all". Christians have a major problem with that

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” - ‭‭John‬ ‭3:16-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Bad News- You are naturally a born sinner and have broken at least one of the law (10 commandments) at least once in your life (Example: a lie) (James 2-10 says if you break one of these laws, its the same as breaking them all), so because of this you're on your way to hell already, everyone is (Romans 3-23) The Gospel (Good News): JESUS, Who is GOD in the flesh, came into the world and died for us, to free us from the curse of the law (10 commandments) and ressurected on the third day so that whosoever BELIEVES in HIM will not perish but have everlasting life! GOD said this! GOD cannot lie (Titus 1-2, Hebrews 6-18) we can lie because we are sinners. JESUS saved us already (Colossians 2-14) Just BELIEVE and TRUST in HIM! HIM ALONE, anyone who gives you another Gospel, whether an angel or one of us, let him be accursed, like it says in (Galatians 1 6-9) JESUS ALONE! Not religion, Trust in HIM and you will receive the GIFT of THE HOLY SPIRIT. GOD HIMSELF! Repent ye and BELIEVE the GOSPEL (Mark 1-15). AMEN!AMEN!AMEN!!!

@lawrencestanley8989

The task that is given to mankind in creation is to bear witness to the holiness of God, to be His image bearer (Genesis 1:26). What an image bearer means is that we are made to mirror and reflect the holiness of God and be His ambassadors here on earth, therefore when we sin, we are committing high treason against the one whose image we are to reflect to the rest of the world. As His image bearers, when we sin, we say to the outside world “look at me, this is what God is like.” And God, as our creator, is well within His right to inflict capital punishment for our sin. Instead, as the image bearers of God, we are to live our lives as a demonstration of the likeness of Him, so that through our lives, others might come to know God.

How exactly does he do that if not a single Christian plays them?

There are many problems with your idea of Christian games with good godly values. - The market is far too small: you are looking at a market composed of adults with a strong judeo-christian moral compass. Generally kid-friendly games (lego games for example) already hold a very large market share of this niche. - Gamers enjoy playing games for one reason above all others: they allow them to do things that they can't or wouldn't normally do (professional sports, travel to other planets, fight dragons and monsters, kill people...) and there is a large market in allowing people to have certain behaviors in a game that is downright evil. I am not advocating in favour of this type of behaviour or game, but the numbers don't lie. So at most the games will be reaching a small indie niche market of morally upright adults with judeo-christian values who don't find mainstream kid-friendly games to their liking. At worst these games will go the way of most other christian games, which is to say that they are just plain terrible. The idea is nice, but it is unfortunately not marketable.

But where is the line drawn?? Are yall going to play doom as well?? This is getting out of hand. All it sounds like is yall justifying playing games that are incompatible with our values and virtues as christians just because it feeds the flesh. I dont disagree with video games in general but can't yall at least focus on games that are either edifying or puzzle-like or one without an undertone of uplifting being emerged in something promoting sinful aspects. Because what yall have played and promoted as being 'yesmen' to is utterly disappointing as a fellow sister in christ. Dont ignore fellow believers like me who are speaking politely disagreement from this by painting me with a legalist brush because that is being intellectually honest and demonizing me just because im exposing your desire to justify your feeding the flesh with unGodly games. I am so disappointed in this channel.

Well let me ask you something, do you remember ever hearing about Dungeons and Dragons and the controversy it had back in the 80s where Christians panned it as a satanic game because of its use of monsters, fantasy, violence, and it could have demonic influence over children? The thing is none of that is true. I never once put my mind to believe anything I played would lead me to demonic or evil things because *plays horn sound with my mouth* I'm smart enough to know fantasy from reality. By fantasy and reality, I don't mean that demons or devilish and evil things don't exist that are supernatural, but by reading the Bible I can understand what is a REAL demon, a REAL evil, and most of the Bible shows us sin and the failure of sin that leads to damnation and God's wrath and justice and so on IF we ignore his many pleas and mercies through the Holy Spirit thanks to the actions of his Son Jesus Christ. You have to realize that we live in an unGodly world, not totally, but almost and we even as True Believers know we are never ever ever perfect as Jesus by the flesh and our spirit fails too, so that's why we call the Holy Spirit. You however are indicating that if I play a game which can have little to no inspiration from God or filled with dark and evil images, I am essentially going against God and Jesus ... well why? If I understand that it is imaginary, I do not idolize it, I give the creators their due respect for talent and imagination which is a gift from God to explore the light and darkness that exists in our lives where almost always in a video game we play as the good hero up against some evil, then why is God punishing me? Or is it because you think he is going to punish me when I'm very well aware that I am not participating in something that will damn my soul, but just bring an entertainment of sorts. I mean I don't expect in Heaven that we will be doing one thing, but multiple enjoyments that are way better than here, but I don't see how what you're suggesting makes me the Christian who has played Doom and Gears Of War and other graphic, violent, and sin promoting games when they do not control me?
@ChlomoBear
@ChlomoBear 8 жыл бұрын
+pablolara125 why even uplift a representation of evil? For example, many christians including myself at one point enjoyed stories like harry potter that present the concept of a world in which there is good and bad magic, good and bad sorcerers. All fantasy. What does the bible say? If God finds all sorcery and magic an abomination, then that means that its always abominable to God and that its REAL. HThese games and stories that promote them in good and fantasy lights condition all of us, including christians that should stay discerning, to think that magic is just made up but if it were real it could be used for good. Then the deceived can be inspired from that mindset when they find out how to use sorcery. How is promoting filthy games like grand theft auto any different? Game creators can use their creations to manipulate mindsets to love what God hates. That is my point.
@ChlomoBear
@ChlomoBear 8 жыл бұрын
+Tom Clark i never said i am perfect. You will never here me imply that either. Just because i choose to make a valid point to try to help fellow christians to see where believers like me are coming from when we disapprove of this doesnt make me "judgemental, intolerant, hateful, legalistic, overly critical". Im sorry you default to that mindset when someone simply stands up against something that isn't in line with how Christ wants us to do with certain things with context. And if constructive criticism isn't allowed even in christian communities, it speaks for itself.

Apologia's attack pointed out, first, the hypocrisy of the position: OP said "don't love anything of the world" as he's posting on social media, while watching (ostensibly) the presentation on the media. To participate in something is not love. Period. In the same way someone can be a Christian and a lawyer, doctor, soldier, police officer... or football, baseball, hockey, tennis, chess or any other "game" player... it's ridiculous, fallacious, and just a bit insane to think someone can't be both a player of video games and a Christian. That was the second portion of the Apologia comment. Done in a bit of a snarky manner, granted, but more succinctly than I just did. Apologia ended the comment with a second nod to the hypocrisy of the OP, self-refutation is another way of saying one is being a hypocrite. You're literally refuting your own position in stating it. That being said, kudos to the ID on the verse, 1 John 2:15 is right on point, but as with all understanding of individual Bible verses, context means a lot. If your absorption into a particular video game impedes your love of God, yeah, that might be a problem! But to make a blanket statement that it does so in every case for everyone is judgmental at best and lunacy when extrapolated.
