Exact lesson I was searching for. Someone recently advised me, one can never have enough strong grip, and since then I've been pulling my iron shots. I realize after this video, my problem was due club face being too closed due to overly strong grip. Thank you.

This was a fantastic lesson. I tried the suggestion moving the ball inside my stance a little while also simultaneously squaring my lead foot and opening up my right foot. IT WORKED! Certainly more practice is needed, but this adjustment was a revelation!

If you are pulling shots it’s because you are delivering your power at the ball instead of at the target. Focus on swinging to the target not at the ball.

Thank You, I mainly pull a shot on par 3’s and approach shots. I think i need to hit this ball 80% or i need to hit it 100% etc and end up thinking i need to deliver the power to the ball.

Hardest thing for me to do. Have any suggestions for this? I’ve heard intermediate target but then I tend to swing down on the ball if I do that because I’m focused on that then.

There's a lot to think about here, but after going through it a couple of times, I realized my issue with the pull was related closing the face too much. I have a tendency to be too hands-y and that's caused my body not to keep up. I swing from the inside. Great lesson.

Great lesson. I have both of these problems depending on my fatigue and flexibility (I'm not as young as I used to be). Generally, on the front 9 when I'm fresh, I'm swinging from the inside with a closed club face, and on the back 9 I'm swinging outside-in. I'm aware of this and try to adjust my swing as needed. This is one aspect of golf that is much like life: making adjustments along to way to better play the game.

Matt. I suggest you just swing one way, from the inside.. This game is hard enough withot having to mast two swings!!!
@AlabamaGolfer Жыл бұрын
@@douglasmcintyre3297 I don’t think he’s using two swings on purpose. I have a similar problem after herniating my L4 and L5 years ago. My back starts to get really tense throughout the round and by the end, I’m just hoping to be able to finish. In the beginning, I’m very aware of my grip, stance, takeaway, etc., but by the 13th or 14th hole, I start forgetting parts of my routine as my nagging back starts getting more of my attention and I revert back to bad habits or what many would consider a more “natural” swing.

There's a reason Hank Haney is considered one of the best teacher's in golf, and this is a perfect example of why that is. I'm a "type 2 puller" (closed face) of the ball, and this has done wonders for me.
@7676ezra2 жыл бұрын
Good stuff. The 2 corrections are spot on what I would use to properly hit a draw (first one) and cut (2nd one). I've been hitting all very tight cut shots and mid to short irons have been great. With my new driver I'm getting the pull with a hook tail and sometimes creeping into tee shots with fairway woods. After a lesson I had been hitting some monster push draws on the monitor but trying to replicate in real situation has resulted in the big pulls off the golf course.

Brilliantly explained. I couldn't work out why my driver fades to the right but my iron shots pull to the left. Will definitely be working on not coming over the top now

Great video, I took a lot of these tips and it helped. Recorded my swing and it helps when you see it. However my miss is still to the left. Most times draw center but the miss is a duck hook. I put some lead tape on the toe of the club and now the misses aren't as bad. Really worked.

Another reason you may be starting the ball left is because your ball positioning is too far forward, which can cause your club face to be closed at impact. This was happening to me so I moved the ball 1-3 inches back in my stance and now I’m starting the ball on the right line because the club face is square at impact.

Surely for a straight pull it's path and club face by the same amount? If your path is 8° left but your face is at target you'll start left and fade it back, no? When he said about people who slice a driver but pull short irons it could easily be down to poor strikes with the driver (more out of the heel)
@calvinhobbes61182 жыл бұрын
As a new golfer having pulling problems I sometimes Slice and sometimes hits Draws w/ driver, while pulling a lot with my irons, so that is my question, isnt it both issues, swing path & closed club face?

Some of this video Hank is describing a hook as a pull. A Pull should be when it starts left but goes straight. A Pull Hook is when it starts left AND goes more left. It's even easier than he says. If it's hooking, that's a club head angle issue. If it's just starting left and going straight, it's a path problem. If it does both, you're over the top AND turning the face. Same for a Push and Push Slice. Push will start right but go straight on that path Push Slice will start right AND curve right.

@stevens40942 жыл бұрын
I THINK this is my problem as well, I switched to a really strong grip which initially corrected my slice but now I’m pulling shots. Now if I neutralize my grip more it doesn’t feel comfortable and still slicing, so hard to find that happy medium.
