Videos on lights are more important than the cameras. Light is what makes your picture. Great video as always Markus. I'm not a pro, just an amateur photographer. I shoot film and digital and, I've learned a lot from pros like you. My grandfather taught me to always learn from others no matter what you do. That's how you improve.

got myself the RGB version of Ulanzi 120v and for anybody buying it...first the light if you attach a reflector has a dark spot in the middle cause of the arrangement of the led diodes, so if you use this light you need to use it with a soft box and even then you will probably have a darker center depending on the soft box and its layers. The second problem the led diodes are not protected so you have to be really careful when using the light there is a higher chance to get burned or to damage the light diodes the same problem ha the bi color version. but for the money it is still usable and it is weird that the battery attached is more expensive than the light😅. It would be nice if ulanzi updated this design with at least the glass protective cover for the led diodes like other similar products have. The build is really great for the price, would love to see magenta and green correction in the RGB version when u use bicolour mode.

Thank you, Markus, for another very informative video on lighting! I know I can always depend on you for no-nonsense, real-world, to-the-point information in these videos. I also GREATLY appreciate the little touches, like the added "pop" sound effect when pulling the controller from the back of the LT026... it was the sound I would have heard in my head even if you hadn't added it, and is one of the little bits of oddness that keeps me coming back to your channel. Thanks!

Thanks for this good comparison Markus! Last week I bought a Godox SL100D to complement the SL60W I already had. Unfortunately in Argentina there is no variety of lights to choose from unless we buy them abroad (with high taxes and fees). These two lights I have now have enough power for my needs and they are not very noisy although that does not bother me so much because I use lavalier mics and they do not pick up the soft sound of the fans. The only downside I have is that my two Godox do not share a remote control, one is physical (SL60W) and the other (SL100D) is bluetooth and is operated from an app. Cheers from Buenos Aires my friend. I love your videos.

When I was searching for the best light for the price, I found many of the 60W 100+ dollar range lights had loud fans. If you go to the 100W+ lights that are above 200 dollars, your options become better for getting quiet fans, and better build quality. That was what I had determined anyway, being someone who knows nothing about lighting! I ended up going with the Smallrig RC120B with the same brand 65 CM soft box. I got it on sale for $220, and $85 for the soft box. It's Been good, I never really go over 15% in a small studio space. My biggest complaint is it's overall size in a small room, and a light stand that's always in the way. I fixed most of that issue by putting it on a wall arm.

If possible, could you please do a demonstration video showing that three 100 watt lights are brighter than one with 300 watts? Usually reflectors are designed for the certain CoB shape, they are longer shorter, etc. Do you got any proof that this Godox reflector adds 3/4 of the stop to any light, or just to few? Have you measured the output? Also reflector is used in 10% of the scenarios with such lights, so native light power of the CoB matters. Want more output? Use fresnel in spot mode, but is it the light you want for the interview or YT video? Doubt it. Long time ago I thought I do not need anything brighter than 60W LED, since I was using Godox 60W at 30-40% in the studio, but now I have 2 600W lights and actually for some scenarios 1200W might be not enough. Depends what you do. Definitely not a review, just brief description of these lights. "This one is quiet, this one is loud" doesn't say a thing. How many dB they have at 1m? And what is the frequency of the noise they generate? I wouldn't make purchase decision without the numbers for brightness and loudness ... basic reliable sound meter is $80 ... get one, let us know the sound levels. Thx.
@MarkusPix
@MarkusPix 5 ай бұрын
Yes I measured each light with a light meter with the original reflector and the RFT19 and yes it was 3/4 stops brighter. I have half a dozen fresnels that I use to focus a spot when needed (the Aputure 2X is the best of the bunch) but the RFT19 actually is brighter in some cases depending on the light being used. Like I said, for what I do, I usually don't need more than 100 even though I have ten 300w lights and about eight 200w lights. As far as noise levels I don't care about db. If I can hear it, then its too loud. I like silent.
@JoATTech
@JoATTech 5 ай бұрын
@@MarkusPix I prefer silent light too, but anything 300+ always have some fans. 35dB and less is totally manageable, especially if sound has constant pitch it's easy to remove in post or with shotgun/lav mic it not audible at all. The trick is that some lights have higher pitch and human ear tends to lie to our brain that this is louder than same 35dB sound but with lower pitch. It's not and is as easy to remove as anything else. Interesting results with this reflector, does it create hot spot in the middle? New Aputure reflectors also boost the readings, but they got hot spot in the middle, and the outer ring is at least 2/3 stops dimmer.

Nice selection. I'm gonna try that reflector because it's a cheap & thrilling experiment. How lights sound is no issue for me, so I got some 150W $80 Neewer video lights a few years ago. Built like tanks. Literally. Large, heavy and metal, all one piece, solid intensity percentage dial on the back, hefty switches, heavy-gauge AC power cords. Fans sound like helicopters. But they've held up very well and the color rendition has remained pleasing and consistent. They're used for tabletop pic & video work. Bolted into place. They may have been close-outs. They weren't sold for long. Amazon, AliExpress, and Newegg no longer have them. They're rarely in stock anywhere these days and the brand often gets a bad rap for lighting products other than the ones I bought.

Great overview! Would have been nice to see your opinion on the Colbor CL100X, I remember you liked the CL60M

The CL 100 I got was the same meter reading as the 60, it wasn't any brighter so I got rid of it.

@@MarkusPix Their naming is confusing though. The CL100 is not the same as the their CL100X lineup. But I guess you meant the CL100X.. Otherwise interesting and great to know. Thanks for sharing!

The CL100XM is their brighter version of the CL60M you reviewed. Same design but more powerful. Can’t imagine it not being brighter but very interesting to know if that’s not the case.

Yes I had the X. It looked exactly the same as the 60. Maybe the factory goofed up and accidentally put the guts of a 60 in it. The bigger C100 you mentioned looks like it has a power brick just like all the others and the optional Vmount is not integrated into the actual light
@dwmspace
@dwmspace 5 ай бұрын
@@MarkusPix Ah ok thanks! That’s so odd that the 100 would perform like the 60. Btw, thanks for all you do. Learned a lot and it’s great how you highlighted the benefits of 100W lights compared to the 300 & 400W lights. As you say diminishing returns with those bigger lights.

Price doesn't mean much to me (I know it does to others). What matters to me is the smallest possible most portable lightweight package with no dangly stuff and the brightest output. But yes 180 for 300w is nice.

Ok I got one. Wow this thing is HEAVY!!! Too heavy for travel, wow it weighs more than my car! And it's bigger than I thought, I thought it was like a flashlight, but it's like a weapon. One suggestion would be to measure the fan noise for each with a decibel meter.
@MarkusPix
@MarkusPix 5 ай бұрын
My metering system is if I can hear it, it's too loud 😜 Decibels don't mean much to me because acoustics are different in each room. Different frequencies carry differently in each scenario. The same light sounds different in my carpeted studio with a 12 foot ceiling than in my main hall which has 30 foot ceilings and marble floors. Some lights have higher pitch sounds while others have lower pitch sounds. Decibels is just a volume meter, not a pitch or frequency meter. I trust my eyes and ears much more than a number. Some waves travel further than others. Some reverb more than others. Some get picked up by certain mics while others don't. Two different lights can have the same light and sound output measurements but they look and sound different on film and audio.

I do it all the time outdoors. I hate using softboxes outdoors. Indoors I don't use reflectors much but I use them to test maximum light output possible from a light.

Diffusion is more important than light output. I didn't see the ability to focus any of the lights. The reflectors act as non-adjustable barn doors. A sheet of typing paper makes a nice diffuser.

This video isn't about quality of light, which is what modifiers are for. This is about basic specs, like size, weight and light power output. Fresnels are used to focus the lights kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXe6anigbrqens0 and softboxes, umbrellas etc are used obviously to soften the light but a reflector was used in this video to measure maximum light output difference between the lights.

**THANK YOU** I continue to very much appreciate and respect your content and instruction. Your personality and demeanor is received as genuine, honest and well intentioned. Please let me know if you ever need a gaffer or assistant. I am only 'Phoenix' away, can grab a quick flight and know that I would learn much. ;-) Kudos for your energy and efforts. Can/will you do a video regarding color grading, post processing and any experiential lessons, stumbling points in transitioning from stills to video content? I feel pretty comfortable with shooting stills but am quizically over-whelmed (over thinking maybe?) related to shooting and editing video content. I'm a smart guy but am surprisingly freaked out and non-adept w video. What say you? Adobe Premier or Davinci Resolve? On phone editing with iPhone editing or Android via Adobe Rush? Shooting Lumix S5II, G9M1 and pro glass. The biggest limitation is in my mirror. Thanks again!
