I’m 100% with you on this. I was drinking LMNT every day and I thought I was being so good. I stay away from sugar and only use things with allulose or stevia. However, my A1C went up. I was so confused. So I stopped drinking it to see if it makes a difference.

Please consider reporting back your findings after dropping LMNT?
@maryh713415 күн бұрын
@@AllisonReece My A1C had typically been in the 5.3 range and kept creeping up. The only difference, I had been using LMNT. It was at 5.7 and I was starting to freak out…what is happening?? I stopped and it went back to 5.3. Maltodextrin has twice glycemic index of table sugar. If I’m doing that, I at least want something with frosting.

@ Me too. That is why I was so disappointed with LMNT. Likely not everyone is so sensitive to that, but some of us are. Honestly when I first heard, I thought someone was just bashing LMNT. Then Steve from Serious Keto did any experiment to see what products had maltodextrin. I’ve been trying to avoid that for years. I know some have warned about natural flavors for a long time but between trying to avoid gluten, dairy, seed oils, I somehow hoped I could trust some companies to do the right thing.

Glad to see you back Steve! Regarding LMNT debacle, here's a different case. A large manufacturer I know of buys components to go into their larger system. They test the item to verify the specs they gave the supplier were met in the supplied product. Sometimes, it wasn't. Since this system was for medical use, it's failure could have very real human impact. High stakes. I'm sure LMNT is kicking themselves, and will be more rigid with their quality testing moving forward. I actually kinda feel bad for them (as a non-customer). But I too feel FDA reforms are needed for product labeling/rules. Too much slop in the system.

As a chemist, we almost ALWAYS had to do raw material testing on each new batch before it went into a product, especially for food and pharmaceutical products. But even for other products... had to make sure the new lot of raw material would work right in a small batch of the product before we made a big batch or product and it ruins hundreds of thousands of dollars of product.

I agree with you: that company needs to take more responsibility. Saying "we didn't know" from a food/drink company is insane. Long ago I took their recipe off their website and bought Magnesium Malate and Potassium Chloride (I already had Himalayan Sea Salt), followed the recipe and now drink that everyday. So, I don't have to worry about flavorings. I will say, I missed a day and my joints were really stiff! With Keto I will try things and if it spikes my blood sugar (I can feel it when it's happening) or makes me feel weird or awful, then I just eliminate it. So, listening to your body is good: I've noticed you do that in your videos, too, usually it's seed oils. So, for me the nutritional info is a good starting point but listening to your body is the ultimate test. We can't go through life on autopilot.

I can give them the benefit of the doubt, but I can't give them a free pass. If their supplier provided them with testing documents claiming little to no maltodextrin, I would think that LMNT would have legal recourse.

You articulated perfectly all my thoughts about LMNT. They refunded to me more than what I anticipated. I tossed almost all that I had (a small fortune of it, about 12 boxes) so now I'm down to just the unflavored and 2 boxes of the sparkling black cherry lime. Once the sparkling is gone it's gone, which I'm not sure how that will go because it's been a one-can-per-day for me ever since it came out and that I really looked forward to since for me in my journey I've cut my dietary intake back to about 99% carnivore and LMNT was my thing. I was having one can of the sparkling and 2 of the citrus packets every day. The entire LMNT fiasco has been huge for me, very much a betrayal of trust.

I am also a big fan of graphic shirts and really found some shirts that I like. We have different body styles I think. I don’t know if you remember this old show called Parker Lewis can’t lose, or even ER, but there was an actor in those two shows that I am very close to in looks and body shape. He played the bully in the first show and then he was sort of a medical tech on ER, always at the front desk. Anyways I have very broad shoulders and big arms. This shirt is tight where I want it to be, and loose in the right spots. They’re called Grunt Style shirts. They do have blanks but they typically have an American flag on the sleeve at least. I can’t speak to true classic shirts. It’s good to see you back. I hope your holidays are blessed.

5:24 my approach is to purchase the powders in bulk, and mix my own. Much less expensive, and you have total control over the ingredients (AND the ratios!). For example, I need more magnesium to prevent constipation. If I mix it, I can decide what to use and how much.
@SeriousKeto16 күн бұрын
It might be fun to calculate the difference in price per gram of making your own vs commercial products. I can say that for the price of a 30 packet box from LMNT, I could purchase the minerals myself and make a couple years' supply of electrolyte drinks.
@eclexian16 күн бұрын
@SeriousKeto - Right. I haven’t actually calculated it out, but it’s on the order of ~10% of the “convenience-priced” alternatives. I should see if I can come up with a number.
@SeriousKeto16 күн бұрын
@@eclexian So I just calculated the cost of the LMNT I bought for the iodine testing. That box was 30 packets of 6g each for $45. That's $0.25/g.
@eclexian16 күн бұрын
@ It turns out even worse than I thought: I ran the numbers, and it costs me $0.03 per serving ($0.04/gm; more like 16% of their price) to make mine, and that’s including that I put in 400mg/serving of magnesium, not just their 60mg. No _wonder_ they can afford all those sponsorships! 😂 🙄

Hi Steve, It alarmed me that LMNT 'did not know' what was being put into their products but more so that I could not read their label and see it for myself or trust what the company was saying was not in it. The fault lies with them and I now buy another brand. I on the other hand am very optimistic about the changes I believe will happen in the food industry going forward. As for the men's shirts, when you find some can you please share the brand because my husband is an xtra medium too now since losing weight on keto and I would like to get him some nice fitting shirts. Thank you as always ❤

Totally agrre with you Steve on the false labeling of foods. The loop holes food companies can use to mislabel is terrible. Dog and cat food companies is so bad also!!! Wish we could do something about it! Thanks for your content.

I have been working on the Fast Like A Girl model, cycling in and out of ketosis with a moon cycle since January. Mostly for hormone balancing and it is really amazing how much it is working. So I have periods of time where I am intentionally not active in an athletic way anyway. I walk every day with the dogs 1.5 to 2+ is average. Beyond that I am maintaining my weight lost from a keto lifestyle and have ended up with soooo many boxes of LMNT, because I mainly use them when I am more active (bicycling). I don't have any physical issues or have cravings when I use them, so I will just keep using up what I have. The chocolate caramel in coffee is nice. I do hope they are finding a better source, but frankly anything that says natural flavors in it is suspect to me anymore. Even if a company wanted to be totally transparent and say what it is, it would just be a listed as a chemical name anyway? It is tiring trying to buy anything.
@SeriousKeto16 күн бұрын
Things would be easier if companies were fully transparent.

I’ve been looking at the True Classic shirts for my husband. After reading the reviews I decided not to buy them because quite a few people say that the quality is not great since they’re thin. Some athletic brands have shirts in athletic fits that run a little bit smaller when you usually wear a Large. My husband has some Under Armour and Lululemon shirts in Athletic Fit that feel like they’re more of a Marge:)
@giselesmith779516 күн бұрын
It is not just men who need the in-between sizing on shirts. I always have to try it on to find out if I am a (based on the company) a small (rare), a medium, or a large. Or...as you said...in between sizes.

Steve, as Ive gotten a larger chest, shoulders and arms, I too am finding problems finding good shirts, especially casual t-shirts. Im finding that athletic shirt companies that delve into casual wear tend to fit better. Nine Line Apparel, US Grunt Style, Ten Thousand and UnderArmor are a couple I have purchased. Not a fan of Nike or Addidas apparel and how they fit though. DEVOPS may have some clothes as well. I like their workout shirts but havent gone to deep into them. Hope that helps.

I remember the Senate passed a bill to get rid of daylight savings time, The Sunshine Protection Act. It was sent to the House and they basically ignored it. And apparently this has happened many times over the years, (2018, 19, 21, 23...) They have a new bill (same one) in the works, make sure to write your representatives with your opinion. They work for You!!!

Fiber converts to glucose in terms of being consumed. Sure it helps you feel full longer and it does wonderful things for the intestinal tract. I learned that from my sister who worked in a hospital for ahem decades. And I know this will upset some but here’s some food for thought. RFK jr wants to demantle FDA. I don’t know exactly what he has in mind. But food labeling, at least in my opinion, has to be honest and upfront. I don’t want to have to test every single product I’m bringing in the front door! I count on a companies honesty. About LMNT…I’m just not crazy about all the salt. Granted I haven’t been on keto long enough to know if higher salt is allowed. But endless amounts of salt simply isn’t good for the heart. I always have issues with low blood potassium…so in my case…reverse the salt for potassium (switch them)and I might consider ordering. I’d be interested if you’ll be testing Liquid IV hydration. I’m talking their sugar free line. It uses allulose and says it adds a trivial amount of dietarily amount of insignificant of sugar. For the carb and sugar part it says zero sugar and carbs. I know you’re interested in getting a hold of singular portion packets. I’m not affiliated with anyone (other than me)but I’d willing to share a lemon/lime tube and a white peach…both flavors that you can get from the package at Costco.

Maybe it has been the years of your employment with GE, but you bring sensitive subjects to light without biased perceptions. Your discussions about subjects make me feel like I am back in a focus group when I worked for Cabela's! Lol!... The American regulations for food are so toxic, that it is amazing how our bodies are surviving. When you look at food labels from Europe and Japan or S. Korea, their ingredients are far simpler and have fewer ingredients, so you don't need a pharmaceutical dictionary near you. I DO hope that the FDA and the USDA are overhauled that A LOT of these additives are removed from our food and that companies are more aware of how their product is mass-produced and what is truly going into them. I read in a medical journal at my doctor, that the majority of produced food today has 45% more additives than they once did back in the '60s and '70s, and many psychological, gastric and allergic problems are from these additives to help preserve the food. Something to really think about. I stopped using these drinks when I went on a complete elimination AIP diet to see what in my food was causing flare-ups with my disorder. Many of the ingredients caused me inflammation and infections, so I now use Aussie Trace Minerals in my water with some real lemon juice. It is really refreshing and my numbers don't spike, even with the juice of half of a lemon. Thank you for sharing your thoughts once again. Just had some time off to honour our servicemen and have some lunch, time to get back to work. Have a great day!

All companies are responsible for what is in their product. Unless the vendor lied LMNT is negligent in their oversight and quality control
@SeriousKeto17 күн бұрын
Regardless of whether the natural flavors supplier lied, LMNT is negligent in their oversight and quality control (in my opinion). If the vendor supplied a fraudulent 3rd party test result, then I think LMNT could have some legal recourse. Still, I believe if you're going to put your name on a product, you OWN everything aspect of it.
