This happens many more times than the average person would imagine. I was stationed on a warship in Yokosuka, Japan in the 80’s. Our soul purpose was to make a presence and chase Russian submarines around. They would come a few thousand yards ahead of us or follow us partially submerged just to show us they could. It was also convenient when a US news crew was on that RC-135 spy plane when it was intercepted as it was approaching a Chinese military installation in the South China Sea. I mean, honestly, if you think this is a setup of some kind, you can think that. A ship going into another ships wake is very dangerous and can cause it to tilt really bad or flip and sink.
