Can't imagine how liberating is musta been for Nobuo Uematsu. Be stuck making 8 bit chiptunes for years and then immediately get to use quality samples, expanding your horizon.

When I first heard this song almost 10 years ago when starting up FFIV for the first time, I fell in love. Easily my favorite FF overworld theme, and maybe my favorite overworld theme in any game in general.

This, right here, THIS is my childhood! Even though (in the USA) I knew it as Final Fantasy 2, I loved (and still love) this game's music! 😀❤ This game was/is amazing and inspired me to work on my own! (I couldn't actually make my game, though. 😅 All I could do is just draw and dream.)

I was maybe 8 years old when I borrowed the "FF2" cartridge from a friend. I was floored by the music in the prologue and the following scenes. But once I stepped outside that castle and heard this theme, I absolutely fell in love. Over three decades later, the music from this game still stirs my soul.

@@suburbanindie I agree with IX and VI, but I think I'd say VII is "great" rather than being a masterpiece. Maybe it's a mix of the characters having weaker designs than the other games and the fact that Square has absolutely ruined the game with the recent """remake""", but I tend to like the other classic FF games more (not including VIII).

Unless proven otherwise, no, this is the original; Celtic Moon's version (which came after) is a cover of this. And, from my research, it looks like claims supporting Enya's involvement are still-perpetuated misinformation coming from a misnamed Napster file from the early 2000s.
