What's interesting about the Primordial Ooze element is that that might be leftovers from scrapped elements from the movie that originally explained how Monsters were humans that evolved in a different direction millions of years ago. This is pretty common for video games of movies or even book adaptations of movies where the script that is handed to the developers is given around a year before the movie is released, meaning there can be a lot of last minute changes. A famous example of this would be Flushed Away's video game having a butler character, or another example would be Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars which had an early draft of General Grevious who had much quieter personality than what we ended up getting in Star Wars Episode 3.
