My dad was in Vietnam as an Army Ranger and retired from the army a couple years after we moved to a small college town in Oklahoma, he got me a lot of surplus fatigues and gear from the base. I had several sets of original Vietnam jungle fatigues including the tiger stripe set, complete with web gear. he told me to wear two canteens with the "fanny pack" and ammo pouches suspenders. I went on lots of patrols when I was a kid in the woods here and had lots of fun with friends. Looking back, I wish I had kept all that stuff it would be very collectible now. (also had the steel pots and original camo covers) Also an M16 training rifle that was all rubber except for the barrel that you could attach a bayonet.

I wore ACUs in Iraq. Was the worst uniform ever.
@vonostrau84325 жыл бұрын
@@MikeB128 nothing against, but why do you think so? I personally find ACU/UCPs pretty good, as I appreciate their ability to adjust to the environment after some time. If you're in the desert, it will catch some sand and dirt. In the forest = mud and green. I mean, it is definitely not the best camouflage ever made, however it is supposed to be universal, and I would say, it makes a good job of being so. Honestly you can make any color out of the white/grey. Just my opinion tho... Thank you for your service btw.
@MikeB1285 жыл бұрын
@@vonostrau8432 Well, since you look like you're younger, and never had to wear them in a combat zone, they do not "catch dirt". In the sunlight in Iraq, they turned a shade of bright blue, so no matter how much dirt they "caught" (mostly sweat salt, not dirt as there's very little moisture in that environment), they were still highly visible from a long distance. UCP doesn't adjust to any environment unless it's a certain color rock in a certain part of the world. When you're in a combat zone, you don't have time to wait for your uniform to "adjust to the environment" like you do when you're playing airsoft. Make sense?

Mike, a bit off topic, however in some of your 'helmet' tests, you're wearing a Rhodesian camo shirt. Is it an original or a repro as I served in the Rhodesian army 1978 to 1980 when I 'took the gap'. I had previously served in the Australian Army both reserves and regular. I still have one of my original 'Rhodie' issued shirts in excellent condition complete with the 'ARMY' patch. Sadly, it's 'shrunk' over the years and is too tight to wear. I still wear my now very worn and faded 'keke' cap for driving. Rhodesian camouflage was certainly effective. the flap comes in handy for the rain and sun. I did purchase a WPG repro that is almost as good as the original. By the way, have you done a ballistics test on a British Mk 3 (WW2 issue) Brody style helmet?
