I fell in love with Rik Emmett when I saw the music video for Never Surrender. All my friend were into Van Halen but for me it was Triumph!! I was 15. In the fall of 1986, Triumph played my home town Phoenix, Arizona. I was 2 months pregnant with my second son. I went to the concert any way. It was so incredible!! And at one point Mike & Gil left the stage Rik played a 3 neck guitar solo that was mind blowing. Unfortunately the band broke up. I have followed Rik for years!! He was my first love!!! Check out the song NEVER SURRENDER.

Don't hate me, but I think triumph is a step ahead of rush in some aspects. Rush had a better drummer and writer. But triumph had a far better singer who could play lead at the same time. That's tough. No disrespect to Alex. But Neil was another world writer. If he would have been in triumph thing would have gone very different. For the music world as a whole.

70s 80s were the best times in rock music history. There are no true "rock" bands out there anymore. To be in an arena with 15k+ people to see the bands live and feel the music was a feeling like no other. We would wait in line all night in law chairs for tickets to concerts to try to get a front row seat. Triumph was so full of energy and always a blast to your face. I've seen them 3 times and they never let you down. This is their best hit in my humble opinion. Yes it is an original song and it is ONE song. Nice pic guys.

this is when music was real - no bullshit. Either you were talented or you weren't. Band members could play multiple instruments and sing. It was a different time because music videos didn't require bands to look good for the camera. Talent was talent and you made it based on talent alone. What a great time to be young

They were a great band live. In a word: 'tight.' I'd strongly recommend doing a live version. The sound quality is just as good, and on stage they lengthen some of the songs with more performance, so seeing them is a treat because they are all highly skilled players and singers. All positive songs. Big hits. You can't go wrong.

Saw them live in Hawaii when I was in high school in the 80s, July 14, 1983. Still have the ticket stub. Some of the best memories of my life. Triumph live was intense. Rush: Hawaii under pressure was another, along with the ZZ Top Eliminator concert in Aloha Stadium with opener Stevie Ray Vaughan, second was Run DMC, and then ZZ. Nothing like seeing ZZ spin their guitars in person. Intense concert. Three different crowds all in one place, and we all got along! Not like now.

I live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the sixth-largest city in the country; it's borders Toronto to the west. Triumph is from Mississauga and they had a recording studio (it still exists) called Metalworks that was founded in 1978 by Triumph drummer Gil Moore. I interviewed Rik Emmett about 15 years ago at a music festival in Burlington, Ont. where I was a newspaper reporter. He was a very cool guy and talked to me at some length. At that point in his career he was playing a lot of jazz, blues, flamenco and classical guitar. He is a guitar virtuoso. Unfortunately, I never got to see them live when I was a teen and young adult. I don't know why. Stupid. Bottom line, Triumph's three members (including bassist Mike Levine) had a very acrimonious breakup with the group disbanding far too soon. They've never quite got their due because another contemporary Canadian rock trio named Rush had a bigger profile. Next up from Triumph should be Magic Power, Hold On, Never Surrender, Rocky Mountain Way (cover of Joe Walsh) and What's Another Day of Rock 'N Roll.

Rik Emmitt has called more people to the Lord than anyone of my generation. This song is possibly the best yet written! What a message in these CRAZY times. Speaking as a former touring metal musician, I NEVER saw or heard anyone in possession of this kind of talent. Seriously think about it: Lyrics, production, lead vocals with astonishingly precise and accomplished playing? Having watched them, up CLOSE, as close as possible actually I never saw or heard any perceptible mistake .....and all of us had on days and off days. Rik never suffered this ailment. 110% every song, every performance. It was an altering and simultaneously heartbreaking experience. I mean I came up hard and fast and I had to be a halfway decent player or...something ......when people are hurling this kind of cash around right?? If I practice 10 hours a day for another 30 years I wont be as good as Rik was in 1982. But I can tell you unequivocally the man has SERIOUS God given talent. I’ve NEVER seen anything like it...oh and he sings as well......REALLY well. He is EASILY an EVH caliber musician. And I hate that word: my father says it means “unemployed” so I never used it as I felt insulted maybe not worthy of that kind of praise. Rik is now and always has been a premiere musician of timeless talent.

I wish I had seen them live. Rik Emmett was one of the greatest Rock singers AND guitarists ever, Gil Moore was a beast on drums and Mike Levine was a great bassist.

I saw Triumph in 1985 in Toledo Ohio. I had the biggest crush on the singer lol. But they were phenomenal! Molly hatchet open for them. But I loved that concert.

The drummer Gil Moore was also a singer with Triumph. They shared that role. To hear the other side of Triumph, listen to Rock and Roll Machine.
