Hit a nerve when Bob said the Brits wouldn't carry out the casevac because they said it was too hot. As a Brit in Afghanistan we had this problem more than once. Our own helicopters wouldn't pick us up because it was too dangerous so we just ended up calling American birds who never failed to pick us up from wherever we were no matter the danger. So started to love the US pilots
@josephfranzen9196 Жыл бұрын
I spent 8 years in the 82nd 1st/504th, I can’t recall the unit but at one point in 07 a British unit in our AO was taking serious IDF and small arms fire after having one of their vehicles disabled by an IED. They had multiple casualties and when we arrived we rolled up in force obviously and our medics immediately started lending a hand to the British docs in anyway they could. I was speaking with one of our medics after we returned to our COP and he said more or less exactly what you said. You guys have gunships and certainly skilled pilots, you think this was an upper echelon command decision?
@akiheavenly6 Жыл бұрын
Probably because the UK can't afford to lose even one helicopter. The Americans have beaucoup money so they don't even blink when one of their helicopters get shot down.

I think it was possibly because of the lack of resources, so losing a helicopter would be a considerable loss to the British Military, whereas the US has much more redundency even though the loss of life would be tragic@@josephfranzen9196

I love the entire dialogue around the analyst woman. You can really see his humanity and heart during this part of the interview. You can tell that any issues she has mentally from that event is forefront in his mind and he feels a bit of responsibility for her. His constant compliments of her performance come across like a father wanting to hug a daughter and tell her everything is okay and I'm proud of you. There's a lot between the words that comes through during this part that reveals this dude's gigantic heart. So he's a badass with no quit in him that also has deep compassion. What a great man.

I've been watching this podcast for months now and all I can say is that this is one of the best interviews you've done Mr. Ryan. It's clear that you did your research and while you maintain excellent rapport with Ninja, you still are self aware enough to maintain pace and make it feel so natural. Ninja is incredible. IMO, he's the funniest dude you've ever had on. This is a leadership episode, hands down and Poras should do that because there are very few people that have his life experience. What I especially appreciate is his humility to state the facts, be critical, humble and not mud sling gives him even more credibility. That Benghazi portion, I was expecting that from one of you and I'm happy to see how it was covered and that it did get political. It was a failure in leadership top down. That's it. Back to you, this is incredible and for what it's worth, it's great to see the journey of you and the platform that you're building. Salute.

I just love those old school operators. They're just so understated and unassuming. They don't "wear" their badassedness like a lot of the younger guys do. Love his description about GRS, not saying "yes", but trying to get to "yes", and willing to say "no, but ...". We were taught as Navy Officers that our reply was never to be "no", but instead, present alternative, perhaps better options. All feedback to command should be constructive. That's what Bob is essentially saying. "No" doesn't solve problems. "Yes" doesn't stop idiotic ideas and directives. You're paid to present solutions, not to say "no", or even "yes". In Bob's case, he was steering GRS management to a constructive, viable, and (maybe) life saving solution. Good stuff. - Navy 05/ret.

I've seen many clips from the show from the KZbin shorts section, and was incredibly intrigued about the interview. Mr. Poras's story is incredible. Much of what he talked about, as far as leadership, is the same thing my father talked about from years ago. I've encouraged many folks to watch this both interviews. They really are that good. @Shawn Ryan, thankyou for taking this idea and approach and sharing these stories. I am encouraged. Thankyou for what you are doing.

Thanks for the great content, Shawn. Bob is super relatable with a great personality, heart and grit. I wish our governments had more people with half the moral fibre of so many SF guys. 😄💯🇨🇦
