I just had mine out yesterday along with my Beretta 1301 tactical. The only thing I don't like is the "coupler" being polymer. When it gets hot, it will 100% move around on you.

@@Johnny_Pballs I'm looking in to getting an A300 patrol as well, mostly just because I like guns and not for any practical reasons. That being said, if I had to choose between the 1301 and the 940, I'd take the 1301 for multiple reasons but all based on preference. Comes with ghost ring sights and a rail instead of the fiber optic front sight and optics cut. Ease of disassembly and reassembly. It's noticeably lighter. It's been around a bit longer so there's more aftermarket support. They're both really reliable so far though, no failures with either with all kinds of loads through both.

930's hand guard fitment was also like that. Drove me nuts, but it never seems to cause an issue until the little plastic spacer underneath cracked in two.

@@Alaska610ish mine doesn't like them either. I have noticed the 930 in general doesn't like high pressure rounds. Mine will have failure to eject issues all day with 1600fps 00 buckshot even in 2 3/4" shells. It will run low pressure (1100-1300 fps) rounds all day.

Mesa Tactical makes an Mlok forend. HB Industres makes a butt stock insert for a sling QD mount hole and a much better barrel clamp.

As a lefty I have always loved the Mossberg safety location. Though if you try to install an oversized safety the screw they use is a one way screw.

the forend (forearm) will not seat down all the way when you thread the mag extension tube down too far before you screw the magazine nut down. happen to me first time I cleaned it.

Dustin Pribble While I have not tried a 940 . I have shot the Ultima . They look really good . But they are nowhere near the cycle ability of their 1301 . This Mossberg is . Plus all the Mossberg reviews claim it eats just about everything . The A300 not so much . I'm guessing because it cycles slow

The forearm needs to be screwed down by the extension tube nut. Then tighten the extension into the nut after it is tightened. That was my issue. Now it is very tight. Also, after about 200 rounds of slug, buck, and bird, my 940 pro had trouble with low velocity birdshot. It was winchester x-lite target or something. I still love my 940 tho.

You make a excellent point. If the tube is screwed in too far first, it will not tighten correctly according to the manual.

Many semi-auto shotguns have trouble cycling with low velocity bird shot...especially Winchester brand for some reason.

I just bought my first shotgun late in life. A Mossberg 500 pump. I don't have any previous experience with shotguns to compare to, but mine doesn't inspire confidence in its craftsmanship. The pump mechanism seems loose and jigglely. RockOn.StayFree.

That was the problem with my 590A1; tolerances were out of wack and the follower hung up in my magazine with some loading and unloading, not after “thousands of rounds”.

I have a Mossberg 930 shotgun that I put a pistol grip stock on and I use it for home defense. I bought some Flocchi home defense rounds for it only to find out they are not powerful enough to cycle the action. Just be aware of this.

I know a lot of low recoil ammo doesn’t run it semi autos; at least they work in pumps. That being said, I’m really considering this broomstick or Beretta’s offerings!

That excuse may have flown ten years ago. Now, the Benelli M4 and the Beretta 1301 exist. The only excuse you possibly have for not owning one is price. They are both far better shotguns than any Mossberg 500 series shotgun.

But also ease of maintenance, parts availability, all of the powder energy going into forward motion of projectiles rather than some siphoned off to cycle an action. I'm about as fast with the 500 series and any Jo schmo with a 1301 so I'll keep my money for ammo.

My 940 pro field handguard is flush, but it wiggles side to side as well. The second I picked it up from my ffl the handguard felt…. Cheap and not properly fit. So it’s not just mine.

I just picked up my 940 Pro Tactical last week. Took it to the range and ran about 70 rounds through it no issues out of the box . But I noticed my hand guard was slightly loose towards the right upper corner nothing major .But I’m curious how is your holding up did it get worse ? Nice review !

Many shells are a bit more than 2 3/4s. Take time to measure them and you will see for yourself!

Trying to decide between the 2. The A300 seems plasticky by comparison and makes it actually feel like Beretta's "budget" model. The Mossberg's floppy forend is the only issue with it that I've heard of.

I have one. The barrel clamp is shit if you try to mount a light, Mine broke in 20 rounds. But the rest of the shotgun is solid. Also I put a Holosun 507K on mine and the sight would not hold zero. More a point about holosun than Mossberg.

I mean, it's kind of a point on mossberg because they went with a pistol sized rds cutout, knowing full well basically none of the pistol rds's will have been engineered to withstand the recoil of anything approaching a shotgun...

Supposedly Mossberg specifically chose the Holosun 407K to put on their 940 Pro Tactical because it worked the best of the ones they tried. Maybe it worked the best for their bottom line.

I like my 940 pro tactical with one main gripe. I put a 4oz mlok mounted light on the barrel clamp and it slides around. Several emails mossberg and no help. They said the light must weigh more than the clamp is rated for. When i asked what the weight rating was they said it doesn't have one and don't tighten it too much it might break. It's my only home defense weapon and i really want a light on it so it's kind of a pisser. If i could return it i would and get a beretta with a solid light mount point like an mlok forend.

Get a pic rail tube adapter. They are aluminum and stronger. They are cheap enough. I put one on my 590s for a light

Gg and g makes a steel setup going around the extension tube nut to give you a picatinny rail (for a light) and a swing swivel qd. It is dope. I like it on mine.

Had the same issue..... stopped using it as a mounting point for anything and went ahead with the GG&G PIC/QD mount.... too many issues, it's basically just to clamp your barrel and mag tube together and stabilize both but the recoil makes it useless for anything to mount on it. On a side note, I had issues from the get go with mine. Initially right out the box the freakin clamp was put on too tight from factory, somehow warping the magazine tube causing a failure to feed issue which was caused by the spring being stuck inside the tube making lose tension therefore only feeding 4 or 5 shells. After that issue was fixed by Mossberg sending out a new mag tube, spring, follower and end cap I had a failure to battery issue immediately after fixing the first problem. All this was with around 80 rounds fired through it, mostly done to test fire the issues. It went back to MOSSBERG April 2023 and got it back in August 2023....PURCHASED JANUARY 2023.... Got it back and it fires flawlessly now, I only got around 120 slugs through it so far but it's functional....so far. One thing I have to say is that Mossberg customer service is top notch, they tried everything before it had to get sent back. Withe price of ammo I'm slowly putting her to work and crossing my fingers she stays workin.

So I have email proof from mossberg this is not as safe or tactical as one would think it could be. Mossberg just told me the only way to load this shotgun 940 pro tactical is to load the barrel first press the release then load the tube. Or it could jam and cause issues. So this gun from MOSSBERG can not be cruiser ready or loaded at ready. It’s only SAFE to use when safety is on and a round in the chamber. I now know that this will NOT be a home defense shotgun

Hello, Perhaps ghost loading would be an option. On the 930/940 models it is possible to load a round on the elevator through the ejection port, and ride the bolt over it. Good to see the bolt/shell release was redesigned, being able to jam the gun by releasing the shells with the elevator down is another issue with earlier designs.
