Odin didn't give his eyes to see through a raven's eye, he gave his eye to acquire ALL the knowledge that there is. He drank from a magical pond to get all the knowledge of the world, but to do that he had to pay by giving up his eye. The Raven thing came later. To replace his eye he started using Ravens. But the birds were not the motive but a simple substitute.

LOL I know, I loved season 4B, some episodes were S6 GOT quality , and they dont need dragons, direwolves giants and ww to be awesome, thats what I love about Vikings. The quality of the writing is sometimes better than GOT that has 100+ million $ budget/season. Vikings gave us the little pigglets, GOT gave us bad pussy

Really? I stopped watching after season 3. I hated how the show went for cheap melodrama over meaningful character-development in that season. And for shock effects and violence over the careful exploration of Viking culture. To me season 2 was the best and I wish I had never watched past it.
@LucidDream7 жыл бұрын
I stopped watching even sooner than that. Honestly, I can't stand Travis Fimmel. Dude is an awful actor really. He shares similar mannerisms in real life and was the same in the Warcraft movie. Doesn't even appear that he's acting at all. No idea why people are so hyped on him, probably has something to do with his looks. Besides that, the show itself is not an accurate representation of the Vikings at all. The feeling is there, the details aren't. Pretty bad having him as one of the main characters, I don't wish to sit through seeing him as often.

The "Shield maiden" myth is just that, a myth. There is no evidence of this. It is something that comes from pop culture. There is no graves of Viking women being buried with her weapons and/or shields nor any old damages to the bones that would be from consistent with many old battles. Compared to what they have found from male bones and graves. Whether they were ALLOWED to or they did it is two different things though. They might have been allowed to viking but decided not to. But in the end, all old cultures known to man has had women stayed home and taking care of the household/offspring. So, it is not far-fetched to think it would have been the same for the Old Nords. Owning land and divorcing is true though.
@hayleybell50695 жыл бұрын
@@stoffni Well not entirely true. There is evidence but it is debatable, as are a lot of archaeological interpretations. There have been women's graves found in typical warrior fashion, they could be literal female warrior graves or symbolic. There's also historical stories and artwork depicting female warriors. These may just represent the mythology of female warriors but it isn't really a stretch to think women followed in these footsteps given other evidence. I'm not sure about actual armies of female warriors but I don't really doubt that some did stand with the men in battle. I would have to do more researching but I don't think in every single ancient culture the women only stayed at home with kids. The good thing about archaeology is there's always new evidence so we can learn more!
@anathema2me4EVR5 жыл бұрын
But mostly they didn't. Women imitating men (poorly) isn't being 'ahead of the times'. It's foolish to jeopardise the value of women in battle because with their death you're literally ensuring that the next generation of your people are never born. Not too wise if you hope to continue as a people.

Just some basic knowledge here about the show for you guys not really any spoilers 1. The show is very loosely based around the two main characters rollo and Ragnar who were real Vikings but in real life they weren't really brothers they probably never even met each other 2. The seasons take place different time periods season 1 takes place during 793AD 3.the show takes place in Denmark they do know about Sweden which is also populated by Vikings Just some stuff to get you guys on track

So fucking happy that you guys are doing this, Vikings is amazing. This show starts around the beginning of the Vikings age which would have been in roughly the late 7th century and would have gone until about 1200 at the latest. The show generally follows history but it takes a lot of liberties. All the characters and events are inspired by or taken directly from real life but are often changed or manipulated for the sake of the show (for example Ragnar and Rollo were both famous Vikings but they were not brothers and were not alive at the same time). I do recommend you avoid looking up real Viking history as it will spoil a lot of big events in the show.
@shonen-seinenotaku35032 жыл бұрын
Its in the late 8th century actually(793 AD) explaination: year 0-100 is the 1st century year 100-200 is the 2nd century year 200-300 is the 3rd century year 300-400 is the 4th century year 400-500 is the 5th century year 500-600 is the 6th century year 600-700 is the 7th century and year 700-800 is the 8th century Which explains why we live in the 21st century rather than the 20th century

Love that you are reacting to this. Vikings is set around end of the 8th century AD and is somewhat based on 13th written sagas plus historical sources of viking raids around that time. Ragnar's wife is Lagertha and his eldest son is Bjorn.

Vikings usually ate Amanita muscaria to produce their berserker rages before going into battle. That is why Ragnar is "seeing" Odin, he's hallucinating. YES!!!! MORE TROOPS! More troops to our clan! Just a few months back I did not even dare to hope we will see so many Vikings reactions.... But now the numbers continue to grow :) It started from Sithfurion the great, the first Vikings reactor in youtube's history, and now were have a big family. Season 1 might seem "slow"... But with the tiny budget they had, they managed to created a true masterpiece. From the moment season 2 starts, you will witness nothing but some of the greatest scenes ever made. Travis Fimmel (Ragnar), will prove to you that he is an acting legend with few equals. What he did for this show was far more than just acting... Many of his ideas were implemented into the show, each episode was discussed between him and the only writer and creator of the show, Hirst. Can't wait for more :) It's different from GoT in the sense that it dedicates a lot in zones which GoT neglects...

According to mythology, Odin ventured to the mystical Well of Urd at the base of the world-tree that holds the cosmos together. The well was guarded by Mimir, a shadowy being who became all knowing by drinking the magical waters. Odin asked for a drink, and Mimir replied that Odin must sacrifice an eye for a drink. Odin gouged out his own eye, dropped it in the well, and was allowed to drink from the waters of cosmic knowledge.
