Minor point, lothbrok isn't a surname but a nickname that he earned because of something he did (it means shaggy breeches or something similar), so that name wouldn't be inherited by his sons. Someone correct me if i'm mistaken, but i believe Björn would be called Björn Ragnarsson unless (or until) he gains his own nickname.

Z Nova He is Ragnarsson, but they don't lose that name when they get their own nickname. Ragnar's name for example is: Ragnar "Lodbrok" Sigurdsson, while Björn's will eventually be Björn "Iron Side" Ragnarsson.

It's Bjorn Ragnarsson acually,your last name is your father's name plus son untill you are given or earn a nickname.Some get nicknames near birth do to unique physical traits like Ragnar's new son Sigurd Snake in the Eye and a character will meet in a few eps. For a girl it would be father last name plus dotter for example Gyda Ragnarsdotter.

Some of the most famous vikings also had names that related to a famous trait of theirs, like a way of fighting, or Snake in the eye, and we had Erik the Red with red hair, Harald Finehair, Sweyn Forkbeard (😂😂) and even all the way up to Harald Bluetooth who simply loved eating blueberries, and therefor often had blue teeth. BUT alot of it is also guessing, miss-translating old texts, and such. Björn as he is just named, for now, is a cool double meaning name :-)

@@peo4989 Since you are presumably Norwegian you know your history better. I would be interested in the source. The crucifixion depicted in this series happened in England. There were no punishments for people who gave up Christianity or apostated from being a monk. In the early church in the days of persecution by Nero, for example, many gave up their faith. However if they wanted to convert back to Christianity, they were considered suspicious and they were not immediately accepted back to the fold. Once Christianity was made state religion many unfathomable cruel acts and persecution took place in the middle ages. Nothing in that Christianity however had any resemblance to Jesus' teachings. Thanks to Reformation we indeed live in very different times.

But the good thing, I really love how they made sure to show the mess the Viking's (better, Danes) kingdoms were. We are so used to big governments and lands nowadays, I really enjoyed seeing how difficult it was to just keep you oversized village. Different from the fandom I have never liked Floki that much, but seeing him show this level of self awareness and the pain he suffers, the insecurity of being a father and all... And I have to give props to the production for making my heart feel for him LOL Also, I just love Bjorn honestly Edit: and yes, I agree with you guys, I think the series alludes to religious forces being maaayybe real enough so the characters feel some consequences. Is interesting.

The show is far from historically accurate. Kattegatt is the sea between Sweden and Denmark while the fjords in the show would be norweigan. I believe the sagas had him be a dane or a swede. So Ragnar in the show is probably danish
