Tbh, that one guy was born "black" (he was likely of some uralic decent) He is the direct ancestor of many a modern icelander, and is well known as one of the islands most powerfull noblemen. He was the son of a petty king, after all. In the sagas he was described as "black and ugly" at birth, allthough there is no evidence of him being treated poorly, if I remember correctly however he might not have been the favoured son. He became one of the pemier slave traders of Iceland, going on raids to the british isles, and his story is pretty typical: He was a norwegian nobleman, who upon seeing that Harald Fairhair was unifying the country, decided to flee to the north sea islands. All the great houses of iceland shared that same heritage in the sagas. (It became an important piece of pro-norwegian empire propaganda a few centuries later)

Until recently Europeans have been very reluctant to get involved because it would inevitably end up with them being called racist or nzi but I think we've reached a point where the bs has reached critical mass and people just don't care any longer and begin to say what's on their mind. Naturally, the media calls that behaviour "far right". At least on Germany. Though from personal experience, I have had very few issues with black people, they're fine the majority of the time, just like any other person you meet. These American black people needs to stop claiming that every culture is theirs.
@lux26258 ай бұрын
Yeah, the united states is just using a simple word to say that he is black just because he is "dark" and in the same video they say: "It also means pale skin" so he might not be black, at most he wore dark clothes and that's it. And if there really was a black Viking, that would be an exception produced by rare and infrequent conditions that allowed its existence, not that it was the norm. An example is samurai Yasuke who is a simple slave of Alessandro Valignano at a time when foreigners came to Japan. I don't know what the United States has with the idea that everyone was black, it is already twisting history for their delusional ideas. There are societies where they never had black people like the Japanese and already, not all the countries of the world are like the United States where many immigrants went to their land. If they want to talk about black people, they should make a series of African kings and heroes, not Egyptians or Vikings that have nothing to do with black people.

Yep, if the articles said "There were Vikings who weren't blonde haired, blue eyed, and pale skinned and some with a tan" that would be true - but "Black" in the modern sense refers to the descendants of Sub-Saharan African slaves brought over during the 1600-1700s. The population of Compton and Harlem were not Vikings. Also, there was no Native American DNA found in any Viking Settlement because the Vikings never mated with the people from North America during the whole Vinland thing. the thing is most of this "black-washing" is just adding new characters into some fantasy shows... I mean them adding a black viking into that viking show doesn't really make it less historically accurate. stories evolve with time, they adapt. My grandma from Schlesien told me about how Rübezahl was a giant deer demon which spewed flames while my grandpa from Tirol told me Rübezahl was a frenchman returned from the dead doomed to walk the mountains. Different people, different times, different versions of the same story. Stories are adapted, changed. Nothing wrong with that.

The black hunter gatherers of the Ahrensburg culture were the first people to inhabit scandinavia circa 12.000 BCE. They moved in from north-central europe into what was then tundra to follow their prey which was primarily reindeer. Their unique genetic admixture of this population resulted in traits such as black skin and blue eyes. The viking era is commonly agreed to by historians as beginning in 793 CE with the viking raid at Lindisfarne and ending with the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 CE. There were many thousands of years between these two distincts historical periods and the first people of scandinavia had distinctly different lifestyles than the norsemen 13 thousand years later. They are not considered vikings by today's historians.

@@ianbirchfield5124 Good job with your response. Even though he sounds pretty "harmless" and just naive and gullible, but that's how it starts. I laughed when I first heard of these absurd and baseless claims but they're not so pervasive that they're entering some mainstream entities, academia, film, museums, etc. I read that many scholars are afraid to counter these fantasies because they're worried about being called racist and cancelled (at least one, I know of, has already been). If it's not stopped, it could eventually be impossible to stop later. Btw, I actually used to feel bad for them too for the same reasons you mentioned, including the descendants of African slaves who had their heritage taken from them forcibly through being uprooted as they were. However, I don't feel the same sympathy I once did since their inferiority complex fueled delusions may end up overwriting true history.

@@ianbirchfield5124 I'll also mention that it's fairly clear, at least in part, his motives for wanting to believe Europeans were black. If he's such a fan of LOTR's and wished it had black characters, he's obviously has Europe fetish and envy. This is not uncommon among non-European POC. They're surrounded by Europeans, our history, our myths and stories, our beauty standards, etc. It's only natural than many would begin to gravitate towards those things, at first, just fantasizing, wanting to believe they're somehow a part of it, appropriate it, then eventually, that white people are the interlopers who stole their heritage from them. And, their delusions know no bounds. I even know of some black folks who, as a result of European beauty standards, make the claim that black people were the first to have blue eyes and blond hair and that the Europeans stole those features from them (no matter what you believe regarding human evolution, and the "out of Africa" theory, their logic is absurd).
