My gramma used to tell me that when someone dies in a house, all the mirrors have to be covered so the spirit moves on, because if they see their reflection they might be stuck and unable to cross over.
@mariasantoyoblanco12514 жыл бұрын
Our family has had bad experiences with mirrors. Like if they aren’t new, or we have bought one in like a second hand store yeah we definitely have weird things happening in the house or in our lives. This one lady had thrown out a very pretty round mirror and my sister had gotten it and mom hanged it on the wall. Well, we’d find a small hand print on it like when the mirror fogs up in the bathroom but this was in the living room, and it was not down low where the little ones can reach it. Soooo yeah ! And plus odd things would happen ever since that mirror was picked up. We threw it away and then we didn’t see it 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ seams someone else had picked it up. It was a very beautiful mirror so yeah.

@Antonia511234 жыл бұрын
@@mariasantoyoblanco1251 there was definetly something attached to the mirror. I guess it was scarry for you to experience that... I like to watch supernatural stuff and I am very open minded, also I am very realistic, I believe there is more than meets the eye but I would never want to experience the supernatural... the only thing I know for sure is what gramma told me, she had some things exactly happen as some woman predicted it would happen to her...
@samiaramzy744 жыл бұрын
There might be something to that. I think in Islam mirrors aren't really something you should have. I never confirmed it but always hear people say not to get any. I have one (besides my bathroom) and put it in the closet and only use it to check outfit. I hate mirrors.

It was Reverend Kelly. He claimed to be a visiting pastor, and the family invited him to stay with them for the night. I am from Iowa and have actually been to the this house. It is overwhelmingly sad and heavy in there. I went during the day and there was definitely some bad energy in the house. It was used as a rental for a while, but families did not stay long, and former residents report being so afraid that they would never re-enter the home. It has since been restored to it’s original state, and you can still see the axe gouges in the children’s bedroom. There is also a museum in town and a guided tour to the cemetery. It is horribly sad to see all of the grave stones for the family. It makes it more real than just hearing a story. I LOVE your work! Keep it up! 💜

jewish people used to cover up mirrors after death becuase of the belief that souls get trapped in the reflective surfaces
@shannonchristie76404 жыл бұрын
Covering mirrors after death is a tradition in many cultures though not as common today. Reasons varied, but include the belief that if you look into a mirror after someone dies, you would be next. Another reason was the fear that the soul would be startled by its reflection and remain trapped in the mirror or the home. In Judaism the mirrors are covered to keep one from any distractions of self while mourning the dead. My guess is it was the pastor.
@wedredding4 жыл бұрын
In my culture, we do cover all mirrors in the house when someone dies. What my grandma used to say, "it's so that the spirits don't get trapped and stay in the house". But like you pointed out, I think it has to do a lot with not being distracted while mourning (for up to a year, men are not supposed to shave, no makeup for women, no one cuts their hair, no entertainment of any kind, stuff like that).

Covering mirrors could be an indication of guilt - he couldn't stand seeing himself after what he did. Or maybe it is a pre-funeral ritual. I am from Greece and when somebody dies, its typical to cover mirrors in their house with black or purple textile up until the funeral takes place. I think it's because of the belief that the soul of the dead is still around and could be mirrored in some way (Spooky, I know).

This was very common during funerals in this time period as well. They were scared their loved ones spirit would be caught in the mirror if not cover. It could be this or I wonder maybe if the suspect didn't want to look at himself because they felt guilty.

Those old houses from what I've seen are rather dense or well insulated. Which kinda sound proofs them to some degree. Then you factor in the distance between their houses. And those two things usually add up to next to no distinguishable noise, making it that far. So it may be very possible the neighbors hadn't heard anything, sadly
