wanted to say: there were a LOT of wartime atrocities committed by American soldiers during the Vietnam war. I personally believe the statement about the two Vietnamese victims; not only were atrocities like this ignored, sometimes they were actively encouraged by fellow soldiers. I feel so sorry for these women.

THIS... My great uncle who was a veteran from the Vietnam war used to boast about the hand trophy he has in his basement. He showed it to my cousins and I who were mostly 9-12 years old, and I have never felt that sick to my stomach. Seeing that mutilated hand was like a cold slap to the face, realizing that actual people could THAT to other people and even be proud of it.

Usually it is difficult to get criminal records sealed. You generally need to show you have made changes outside of prison over many years or have committed the crime as a juvenile.

Fun fact… my dad was the cop on transport during his trial here in Rochester where I grew up…. and actually if you watch the documentary on Arthur Shawcross, you'll see my dad walking him in-and-out of court. I remember my dad talking about how creepy this guy was and what made it worse is that if you didn't know that he had done anything you would think he was just a normal old man...and then as soon as he starts talking you know something's off. Growing up in the area, everybody knows about him, But once you know about him nobody really talks about it

My dad was one of the investigators who had to interview Shawcross before his trial. My dad was 6’2” and a military veteran, but when he came home after interviewing him, he ran into our bathroom and vomited several times. This was also the first time I ever saw my dad cry. He would only ever say that he had met the devil.

You know that interview was actually more of a relief to me than a horror. You can see that he is really and truly insane, it is almost like it is just not that complicated. He is nuts. I literally went to school with some family members of some of Shawcross's victims. In forensics classes, teachers had to make sure there weren't any before talking about him in class. I also had a friend whose mom dated him.

My Dad is one of the cops that helped catch him! He killed a girl from my hometown and he was brought in on the case. There were times where he wouldn't leave the city of Rochester for DAYS trying to catch this guy.
