Thrice have soooo many great songs... You should check Daedalus, Broken Lungs or In Exile. The singer/lyricist was a pastor in a Church in Orange County and is deeply religious, but not one of these guys with blind faith. You will enjoy his lyrics, for sure.

Thanks again, guys! I loved the reaction and the perspective, of course. This is one of the B-sides from their newest album, we'll get to that allbum soon lol. I think the position of the song is so important today, as you guys were explaining. I recently lost two good friends because I personally don't believe abortion is ever justifiable. They didn't appreciate my views or try to understand them while I was trying to keep that bridge from burning. It took almost 2 years to build that friendship, but only a couple minutes to tear it down. Mind you, I'm not, and I don't think anyone is, completely innocent in that regard, but this song is a good mantra when you run into those polarized conflicts. That's also how I choose to see the repetition of the song as well, it's like a chant to keep the message in your mind to avoid slipping into dehumanizing your opposition. Anyways, I can't wait for the others! God bless and stay safe!

My favorite band. I loved your guys' reaction video to Hold Fast Hope. I never connected it to Jonah until then, but you guys were absolutely right. You should react to Like Moths to Flames. It's off the same record as Hold Fast Hope, and is about the betrayal of Jesus.

I came here for the Thrice reaction but I wanted to say that I really respect how nuanced and compassionate your views are, even if I don't always agree with them. Dustin Kensrue's journey in Christianity was often challenged when fellow Christians would denounce healthcare for all, push racism and homophobia and support Trump. I would see him on Twitter pleading with Christians to open their hearts but they would tell him that by "denouncing Trump" or even "including people of color in his videos" he was being "overly PC" and abandoning his faith. It breaks my heart. It gives me a lot of hope whenever I hear or see other believers refuse to tow a political line at the cost of their morals. Thank you. Be well, both of you.

Funny, same thing happened with Spencer from Underoath. Super Christian band, that touched a lot of people. Then Spencer fell into drugs, and when he reached out for help within his Christian community, they turned their back on him.

Everything you are saying is true man. The two parties don't care anything but about how to further their agenda and will stoop to any level to do so. That is first and foremost in their mind...anything goes! And social media platforms should NOT HAVE A BIAS PERIOD! The idea of a social media platform is so people can be themselves and speak their mind. Censorship of that is against the very idea of "social media".

We take human lives all the time. The law exemptions for justifiable homicide. We have decided by way of legislation that abortion is justifiable.If you want to make it criminal it is on you to prove it's not. I have yet to hear a "pro-life" person make a convincing argument as to why it can't be justified legally. If it is legally justifiable it should be accessible.
@ayotrippin
@ayotrippin 4 жыл бұрын
Legally justifiable does not mean morally justifiable and I don't think you're ready for the conversation if you come out of the gate saying any human life should be subject to legally justifiable termination. Though, abortion is really the only way to legally kill an innocent person unless you count pulling life support, which isn't really the same at all.
@benwebb4424
@benwebb4424 4 жыл бұрын
@@ayotrippin I think we think of morality in completely different terms from each other. Not saying that legal means moral btw. However, legal does hint at collective moral understanding - hence why different countries have different laws, and why laws have changed throughout history. I personally believe morality is tied to memetics, and isn't hard and fast. In other words, take your bullshit moral pandering elsewhere. Give me a logical reason.
@ayotrippin
@ayotrippin 4 жыл бұрын
@@benwebb4424 There is no logical reason. But, stripping the morality from it there'd be no logical reason for someone not to kill you, besides the legality. If that's the kind of world you're comfortable with then so be it, there isn't a discussion to be had there. Regardless, you were asking why it can't be justified legally and I gave you an answer; it's really the only case that you can kill an innocent person and have it justified by law. That should speak to why it shouldn't be legally justifiable - because they're an innocent person. Laws should always protect the innocent, no matter where you come from or what culture you're in. It's only bad times when you give that power away.
@benwebb4424
@benwebb4424 4 жыл бұрын
@@ayotrippin The thing is, if you can't provide a logical reason why your sense of morality is better than my sense of morality I don't have a logical reason to switch my moral sensibilities. Logic is the only form of discourse that makes sense when discussing morality. "It's immoral because...uh...it's immoral" or "It's immoral because I said so" aren't convincing arguments. I don't care what you find acceptable because I need to live my life in a way I am happy with. Here are some logical reasons why murder should be illegal. It should be illegal because having a society where people are just killing each other is bad for the survival of that society. Having murderers go free creates a situation where everyone always has a potential threat and feeling threatened leads to stress, and long term stress leads to mental and even heart based diseases. It would be bad for society to have a default shorter life span due to mental unwellness and heart based diseases. Killing each other is just bad praxis on multiple levels. You are either stupid or dishonest. Saying abortion should be illegal because it's the only time we kill innocent people is also both not true, and also ignores arguments for why it should be legal. We also kill innocent people during times of war. I don't just mean casualties either - look at the Vietnam war. Literally a war where America invaded another country that did actual nothing. As for abortion, the child can be a health risk to the mother. If protecting innocent lives is good, than certainly protecting the innocent life of the mother is also good. If the mother's options are potentially give birth and die, or live but lose a child than I say the mother should have the right to choose their own life. Until you give a valid argument for why it should be mandatory to sacrifice yourself for the child I firmly believe abortion should be accessible.
@ayotrippin
@ayotrippin 4 жыл бұрын
@@benwebb4424 Logic is a tool that can be used in very misguided ways. You can use it to whatever end so it really doesn't have too much value when discussing moral dilemmas. I can see why you would think it's reliable, but the snake is the subtlest creature and its venom is fast-acting. I won't be fooled into the mental circus, I refuse to justify murder. You're saying its illogical to allow murder on a large scale, which wasn't my example. I had said there's no logical reason for an individual not to kill you, not that it's illogical to have laws against murder. But if you're satisfied with the way you took it; abortion should be illegal because the more accessible and acceptable it is, the more our birth rate will decrease in the coming generations. Declining birthrates in a society are a sign that the foundation is ready for collapse, putting increasing stress on infrastructure and removing viable contributors to the economy, limiting advancement. It'd also make sex less consequential and more casual, creating less reason to protect yourself during sex since pregnancy is easily taken care of. Less protection will, in turn, create greater infection rates for STIs and hasten their mutative progress, creating new infections at increasing rates forcing us to continuously create treatments for new types of infections. However, our method of combatting STIs is historically ineffectual and would likely not result in many reliable treatments in a growing pool of new mutations. I do not condone the killing of innocents in any situation, so while we do kill innocents in war-time, I'd obviously oppose that practice as well. As far as the risk to the mother, sure, in those cases, it might be understandable. I wouldn't say it's a good thing or that it's a morally justifiable thing, but it is understandable. When it comes to the child and the mother, the mother isn't an innocent party; very few abortions are done for health reasons or in cases of rape, the majority of abortions are performed on women who chose to have sex. Choosing to have sex makes you directly responsible for the child's life, you're not an innocent party, you chose to participate in a biological process that's primary purpose is reproduction. The child didn't choose to be conceived and didn't choose to burden the mother and therefore is the only innocent party. If you want to continue this conversation I'd suggest dropping the big brain act. If you keep up the "You're either stupid or dishonest" bullshit there's no reason for me to invest any time or interest into the dialogue.
