Did the Valves! Fixed the problem! Don't waste your money! If the car is running rough idle, and dying when cold, DO THE VALVES first. Not hard, yet you need to know what your doing, and not under or over torque (tighten) down blots.

Did this on my 08 Fit back in April. Bought it back in March, and she was noisy xD Was very happy to find that the valve train was sparkling silver inside! I expected more yellowish like in your video, but I guess the previous owners did oil changes more frequently. I plan to keep doing my oil changes at 3k or 3 months. And MTF changes every 15k. Will use 5w-30 during summer and fall, and swap to 5w-20 for the winter and spring. Once it reaches 200k, I'll probably stick with 5w-30. If I manage to keep myself from upgrading, I'll swap to something heavier for summer driving as I get closer to 300k. For now, she's at 115k and going strong. (So strong, that it took me a few months to get used to the higher revving engine. Spun the tires SO much by accident, as I was used to my previous car, a 6th gen 4-cyl Accord.)

Note to everyone; if your engine surges/idles roughly, and still does so after doing this valve lash adjustment, try replacing the spark coils. Did so on mine, and it's running perfectly smooth now. Previously, it would change a few dozen or even like 200 rpm, when the AC would kick on. At first I thought it was normal, but then it got worse and worse to the point that it would have very junky pull-aways from stop signs, cause the engine would do like a half-stall. Replaced the spark plugs, and the problem went away for two or three days. That gave me the idea that it either spark or fuel was having a problem. Luckily it was spark, cause new fuel injectors would've been an order of magnitude higher in price (nearly $1k for good ones), compared to like $120 in Hitachi ignition coils.

Thank you for the instructive video. I was wondering if you also removed the battery, it looks like you did. How often do you recommend doing this valve adjustment? My 2016 Fit has about 80,000 miles and seems to run good. I would like to keep it running forever. Any maintenance advice?

What are the symptoms of having to adjust the valves? How many miles or kilometres has the engine got?
@richardcase16533 жыл бұрын
If you are just changing the spark plugs and have not already removed the intake plenum, valve cover, etc, you can't reach them without removing the lower windshield frame (or whatever that is.) On most older Hondas, the valve adjustment and spark plug change are both recommended at the 110k mark. "Tune-Up" Some recommend the valve adj sooner. Ditto the nice clean engine comment! Nice demo.

On a 2008 Honda Fit, you absolutely can change coils and plugs without removing a single thing. You just need to have the correct length extensions/swivels. I do believe on the 2009+ models you need to remove the cowl to access them.
@Hachiro Жыл бұрын
@@maz_mtb3266 This is correct! 1st Gen (2007-2008) Fits have more room work work around the engine. You can even reach behind and touch the exhaust manifold if your arm is thin enough.

Did you rotate the crankshaft for cyl 2, 3 and 4? Also according to manual it is: 1. Rotate crankshaft up 2. Adjust cyl 1 3. Rotate crankshaft 3 4: Adjust cyl 3 5. Rotate crankshaft 4 6. Adjust cyl 4 7. Rotate crankshaft 2 8. Adjust cyl 2 Side note: - Apply a 3.0 mm wide bead of the liquid gasket, P/N 08C70-K0234M, 08C70-K0334M or 08C70-X0331S, on the chain case mating areas (A). - Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil. - Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the head cover. Valve cover bolts: . Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step tighten all bolts, in sequence, to 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 8.7 lbf·ft).

My Honda fits been having a low idle rough idle! Who wants to die when it's cold we got to have no codes and the spark plugs and coils are good.. the shop keeps claiming that there's nothing wrong with my car but yet I can feel it shake when it's cold start?? Are they just dumbing me down or am I thinking that it needs a valve adjustment?

@@jarana10 I did it, yes. You should be modestly mechanically inclined. It’s easy, but challenging at the same time. The car is old and be careful not to over tighten and break valve cover gasket blots. It fixed my problem. Now it could be a coil pack… and in that since you would just want to unplug one at a time while the car is running to see if one of them aren’t affecting anything after being unplugged then that’s a coil issue. (Meaning the coil wasn’t working in the first place if not change when unplugged).

Looks a bit complicated. I am going to replace the leaking valve cover gasket of my 100kkm/62kmile 2005 FIT. But not sure if I should do the adjustment by the way since it works fine. Don't want to blow it up. XDDD
